IF Smalling is not shaky on the ball at his feet, he’d be the first CB on Southgate mind. I hate his passing deficiency with a passion. 1 Like 1 Share |

weedtaker: Smalling dey spoil match. It's not just about misplacing a few passes but about disrupting the flow and rhythm of a team. Smalling always passes the ball very slow and behind the player whereas a good defender should pass fast and in front of the player so he can take it in his stride. Smalling will pass the ball one step behind you so you have to stop your forward momentum and take a step back to collect the ball. This disrupts the build-up of a team immensely and also allows the opposition to stay in shape without being disrupted at all. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

weedtaker: engrelvis: You guys are not getting it. See, everyone knows England sucks at tournaments no matter who they put out there. Even the so-called "golden generation" of England achieved nothing. This is the normal England we're used to. But Southgate is trying to approach the tournament from another angle, which I think is brave. Here are the defenders for the last WC: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United). These defenders which Smalling was among are more of brawns than brains. They are your typical traditional defenders. What Southgate is trying to do this time around is to go for intelligence over brawn; he wants defenders that can pass comfortably from the back and initiate attacks. Southgate even tried the 3-man defence set-up in one of the friendlies, it shows a coach that wants to deviate from the norm since the norm hasn't worked. It might end up being a wrong call, but it's one worthy of giving a chance. The key to his plans working though, is the midfield. If the midfield engine works perfectly, then other parts of the machine will work well. The wrong call I think Southgate has made so far is not picking Jonjo Shelvey. |

patrickmuf: In the absence of Payet, Lemar is the only set piece specialist left and I will find a way to play him in the 1st 11 by force. I only see 2 strikers in the squad and cannot understand why Martial has not been taken as the 3rd striker/back-up winger. I don't understand Thauvins inclusion at all. That may be Deschamps showing his Marseille bias. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

engrelvis: Bro, we're past the "United defenders are the best" stage about a week ago. Go to few pages back and see how that fictitious belief has been destroyed. I don't have strength to start digging up past posts to show you the miraculous works of DDG. But, I'll leave you with this fact sha: Watford have conceded less shots than us. Yes, you read it right. Despite the fable about our good defensive set-up, we've allowed oppositions take more shots than fuckîng Watford. Na DDG dey save us. |

sinizia: You are definitely on Point Bro. Smalling is an established Fool when it comes to Ball Possession. He's kinda frustrating to watch at times. How I wish Jones can stay fit, or Lindelof can sharply improve on his defensive Deficiencies. The first Player I want out of United is Smalling, follow by Darmian. Both can even leave for free if the Decision is mine to take. 1 Like 1 Share |

Oasis007: What Smalling has over our other CBs is his ability to stay fit. If we can have Bailly and Jones fit for 99% of next season's matches, we just need another top CB and Smalling can be sold with cowries like Pietrorico once suggested. Unfortunately, Jones and Bailly are injury prone and Lindeolf is worse than Smalling, at least for now. Speaking of Pietrorico, what happened to that guy? Is he writing the never-ending MBBS as well? 1 Like 1 Share |

patrickmuf: Bro, I ain't saying Deschamps his absolutely fair with the List, but it happens to almost all the National Teams Coaches. For instance, let's take Rohr as an Instance, how can he rely on Uzoho, Ezenwa and Akpere as our Keepers for the Mundial?! What happens to Aiyenugba and Ejide?! Martial is far talented than Thauvin, but Deschamps has his Reasons for picking Thauvin ahead of him. Well..... I'm less concerned with whatever happens to the French NT, cos I'm gonna be 100% loyal to the Super Eagles. #SoarEagles #NaijaTakeover 2 Likes 2 Shares |

sinizia:that's no way to draw up an inference. If we were facing more shots than a lowly placed team then you have to consider the function of the team as a unit. Were there disruptions as a result of injuries, suspensions? The team tactic; which were more often giving up the ball & inviting pressure whilst hoping for a quick breakout? It is also more glaring that we registered lesser attempts upfront than teams below us on the table. I wouldn't put that down to a weak offence either. We scored very few & let in very few as well. Our midfield is not even the strongest because they set up to play without having a lot of the ball. Now if we are poor @ the back, middle & front; why are we in second spot? 2 Likes 1 Share |
