Our attention has been drawn to news making the round that UBTH JOHESU EXCO members were involved in a road traffic accident today 19.05.2018 on their way to Auchi in Edo state.

While there was indeed a road traffic accident:
** the victims are neither UBTH JOHESU EXCO
NOR MEMBERS**

We understand the desperation of the sponsors of this false news to always seek ways to score cheap points but we are saddened by the fact that they could descend so low as seeing the pain and anguish of the accident victims as something to be celebrated to the extent of uploading the pictures of this NIGERIANS IN PAIN to the whole world.

I want to state here again that this news is not correct as no UBTH JOHESU MEMBERS were involved in any kind of accident today and we shall by the GRACE OF GOD NOT BE INVOLVED IN ANY.

We want to advise ARD/NMA members to always check their facts and avoid rushing into conclusions so as not to continue spreading falsehoods to the general public.

They could have asked questions and get correct answers before painting the social media red with this lies.

I advice the NMA to avoid wishing JOHESU MEMBERS evil as evidenced by the way they celebrated this falsehood on the social media.

WE WISH THE VICTIMS OF THIS R.T.A A VERY QUICK RECOVERY.

WE ALSO APPEAL TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO PREVAIL ON THE MINISTERS OF HEALTH AND LABOUR TO QUICKLY PUT AN END TO THIS STRIKE BY DOING THE NEEDFUL.

GOD WILL CONTINUE TO PROTECT JOHESU MEMBERS.

. Whether it happened or not,you people cannot be in equivalent with doctors that's all we saying. Everybody is important and we all ve our areas of specialization. If you want to receive the same salary and allowances as a medical doctor, you re free but graduate as one first.

Am sorry but are cleaners not under the purview of non Medical hospital workers and thus under JOHESU and what are they doing so far away from ABUTH if not official JOHESU business.?

Life lesson; Do unto others what you would like them to do for you. You people are on strike because of greed.

Do you even have sense? You're not a health practitioner and henceforth should shut up as you don't have a single idea how nurses and pharmacist especially are being underrated in Nigeria. Get the point. They are not seeking for equality but for fairness and pay relativity as they all have direct contact with the clients/Patients

Keep Quiet Blinded slowpoke! Get the facts right. We aren't seeking equivalence but a fair increase in salary and welfare as we also have direct contact with patients. I'm speaking on behalf of Nurses. We're so underrated in Nigeria. That's why Nigeria is losing its best nurses to UK, US, Canada and Australia

Why are u denying cleaners when they needed u guys most.tot u guys said 95% of the staffs in the hospital r johesu(cleaners inclusive too) and d remaining 5% bn doctors.in my centre, that was how dey deceived ward attendants/cleaners to join them in d strike.by the time FG applied no work no pay principle for them hunger drove dos cleaners back to work.lol

smiles. Please tell us the salary relativity ratio for Doctor/nurses(diploma)/Nurses (Bsc.)/pharmacist and others in UK/US/Canada and Australia u are talking about.compared to what a Doctor is earning in Nigeria now, nurses(diploma)/ nurses(B.sc)/pharmacist/lab scientists and others with Bsc. own I think is fair too. U and i know even an administrator in the hospital under FG earn more than his /her colleagues outside the hospital despite doing the same work and also under FG payroll. But I can say both Doctor and Nurses are earning far below what our colleagues in those countries u mentioned are earning. So NMA is telling FG to remember us too o if u r going to increase JOHESU member salary by 20% so that by that increment we will not start earning the same thing or almost the same thing when the job description is far more different. So we are not against ur salary increment but U guys should not forget our own 20% too so that we will not end up striking too when u guys resume. Am sure u guy don't want FG to gv us that same 20% meaning we r going to be earning almost same thing by u guys logic/calculations.una think say una smart.

A Prof of surgery wrote this

On Doctors, JOHESU, Hospitals (administration, titles & salaries) and the Patients.

What I write here is a brief account of my thoughts.

1. We the doctors have to improve on our human relationship skills. Nothing to do with JOHESU. We relate poorly with ourselves. It took me years to notice this so I was guilty for so long. I cannot say if I am now different but others will judge but I know I have worked very hard on myself.

*We hate the truth especially when we are the slackers and we embrace mediocrity and despise excellence. Yes, you would find diligent doctors producing heartwarming results and the sloppy doctors even unwilling to change. The system supports this.
*check what we do to ourselves when it comes to appointments to posts (legendary) and worse if it is an election
*Why should the Neurosurgeon, Cardiothoracic surgeon, General surgeon and Laboratory Physician or Community health physician earn the same call duty allowances even as doctors? May be there should be a standard call duty allowances and then the quantum of your work or inconvenience on duty should then be calculated further to determine your earnings. Will my colleagues support this? So there would new struggles within.

2. JOHESU May have suffered in the hands of doctors. We despised them, didn't work for their progress until they started having a voice of their own or working for themselves. We resisted the posts of even Assistant Director for Nursing--i saw this as a trainee surgeon in UCH. Now we have Director of Nursing Services. They got these for themselves. How can you be a leader with lack of care for your team members? However, the response from JOHESU has been violent and would be counter-productive in the long haul. May be it is part of negotiation: throw everything in and eventually when the system collapses, you would get something a little more than what you have now. He that is down fears no fall!

*JOHESU has the numbers and more money to get circulars anyhow in a corrupt country. Capitation dues by members staggering. Doctors are fewer, won't pay enough dues etc.

*Respect must be MUTUAL.

*Whether the doctors are good or not, JOHESU thinking that the doctor can be sidelined or rubbished is a suicidal tendency that would bring the house down on everyone. That's where we are now with the current strike.

* A physiotherapist thinking he can function without the neurosurgeon, neurologist or orthotics beats my imagination!

* A Pharmacist or Nurse thinking he can function without the specialist doctors suggests inadequate training (no insults intended).

I have said it too that
*Doctors thinking they can function without the nurse, pharmacist or others is poor, unhelpful or mediocre thinking

3 CMD positions in University Teaching Hospitals. I believe for administrative convenience, a lecturer in a University who is a Honorary Consultant specialist in a University Teaching Hospital has to choose one employer for salaries and wages then he is a staff of the University and he collects allowances in the Hospital where he is labelled no staff. On this account JOHESU says non-staff can not now head the University Teaching Hospital. Who understands the mandate more than a lecturer? I agree you don't have to be a lecturer to understand the mandate but then also you cannot close the door on a lecturer-consultant!

All the arguments of long years in training, go and do JAMB and study medicine, privatise the hospitals (doctors) and we too can cripple services without the doctors or start negotiating how to make degree trainings to be as long as for doctors hence Doctor of Physiothery, Optometry, Doctor of Pharmacy etc are all self-serving.

What's the way forward?
What caused all these?
Where is the PATIENT health and WELLNESS in all these struggles?

The corruption in Government is another issue that makes all these shenanigans possible! Appointments, Discipline, Circulars, discriminatory no work, no pay

These are not questions for one person to answer. I have my idea as but I can be labelled biased because I am a doctor. Suffice it to throw these questions to the public space and hope we shall get some workable, non-emotional or self-serving solutions. We know that these issues are not found in Private Hospitals or outside Nigeria!

Food for thoughts

I have followed this Johesu vs Nma problem and from all I have come to know, johesu is not asking for equal pay but an increase in their salary and Nma are carrying the propaganda of equal pay just to score cheap scores. Nma salary scale has been upgraded 3times in one year but johesu members are still in one place even after court order since 2013. Let's say the truth for once because what goes around comes around. CeoNewshelm:
At least 19 members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) sustained injuries in an accident along the Benin-Auchi Road on Saturday.

The workers are said to be staff of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) chapter of the union.

According to Channels, 40 of the health workers were on their way to a function in Auchi when the accident occurred.

The injured victims were subsequently rushed to the Otibho Okhai Hospital in Irrua, Edo state, where they were being treated by doctors and consultants on duty.

Esteem Tagar, president of the association of resident doctors at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, who confirmed the incident, said no life was lost in the accident. The union has been on strike since April 17.

Part of the health workers’ demands include upward review of their salaries to be at same level with the doctors, a request both the federal government and the doctors kicked against.

Others are improved facilities, employment of additional health professionals, implementation of court judgments, upward review of retirement age from 60 to 65 years, and harmonisation of salaries of all healthcare workers in the country.

The National Industrial Court in Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the health workers to resume work within 24 hours but JOHESU asked its members to continue with the strike.

The union has “relaxed” its strike in Lagos, Kano, Yobe and Niger states, but called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Isaac Adewole, minister of health, for allegedly taking sides with doctors in the ongoing strike.

Why play politics with people's lives? Did u even enter d emergency room? U drove the same official car u have parked at home since the commencement of the JOHESU strike despite being a management staff to the hospital after we finished stabilizing the patients. U met d cmac & I outside d A&E and u left us there without entering A&E. Now you are here posting that patients with compound fractures and varying degrees of dislocations and severe avulsion injuries have minor cuts? Are u this wicked? Did any member of JOHESU step his or her feet into the A&E all through the 2 hours we spent resuscitating and stabilizing these patients? Are you aware the lock to the caravan which u people locked and went away with was broken just to have access to materials to use in saving these patient's lives? Do u know we did not bother going to the pharmacy to look for any drug? Its because even before u proceeded on ur strike the hospital pharmacy was already moribund and the pharmaceutical store outside the hospital already took over. We simply stepped outside the hospital to get the drugs and fluids we used. Do u know we used ordinary hands to suture those bleeding wounds as we couldn't gain access to any suturing pack locked up by u people? Are u aware half of these patients require formal surgeries as soon as they are stable enough? Are u d ones to operate on them? Do u know d full meaning of ORIF my brother? Were u or any member of ur striking union interviewed by any of TV stations? Are u aware NTA & ITV captured me while saving the lives of these patients and interviewed me thereafter? Are you equally aware channels news crew were in touch with me all through this process? Did u by chance see any of their camera sir? I haven't really said much. Only asking pertinent questions..

Won jebi, they should have ignore them abi

Dear Esteemed JOHESU members, greetings to you ALL.

THE STRIKE IS ONGOING.

Why do they need JOHESU members to return to work by force.

Come to think of it, why is the ministry riding on another horse (NGO) to issues directive to MD's and CMD 'S?

I believed some of the CMD' S are not fools, they have their own hospital barrister who could advise them accordingly because the Minister is desperate right now and he is making mockery of himself at every move he is making contrary to resolving the issues at hand.

The MDs and CMDs cannot deny the FACT that paying JOHESU SABOUTEOUS is not the solution to the issues at hand.

The Minister of Health and the ministry should be bold enough to take JOHESU to court.
Why are they avoiding the same court they flagrantly ignored and disobeyed Nine (9) good times.

Is it not embarrassing, shameful, for the ministry to jump on the line of NGO court arrangement they organized. The plans with NGO as fore runner is not working.

Let THE PRESIDENCY, THE SENATE, OR THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE take JOHESU to court, but to INTERNATIONAL COURT WHERE NO PARTY COULD DISOBEY and all INTERNATIONAL BEST PRACTICES adhere to.

OPENING OF REGISTER IS NOT NEW, THE SAME REGISTER MAY BE VERY USEFUL TO THE UNION TOMORROW.

BE STRONG, FIRM AND RESOLUTE, WHAT EVER THAT HAS A BEGINNING MUST HAVE AN END.

DON'T GIVE UP
VICTORY IS CERTAIN.
Com Fred: No body should be afraid,it was JOHESU leadership that declared the strike ,they are d ones empowered to relax or call members back to work. No one shd write any register for now. Afterall govt has named the JOHESU leaders they are interested in.
Commit our actions n further actions for victory this holy month of Ramadan as we pray n take action.

These blogger is a physician playing moronic politics in order to ridicule Johesu but it failed and everyone with a morsel of grey matter can through it.

When physicians also falls sick or suffer an accident it is the Scientist that runs their laboratory investigations and provides safe blood, the nurse also nurses and dresses their wounds and pharmacist also provides drugs.

This feeble attempt at anti-Johesu politics dead on arrival and JOHESU, I trust will counter it. The struggle continues. Every professional in the health sector must earn their deserved dues.

Dey wait for nma to go negotiate, they in turn go behind close door to go negotiate too and nma discover that after negotiation dr is always pay parity between a Doctor and oda guys instead of the usual relativity WC should be 2:3:4 ( nurse:pharmacist/lab guys and other bsc holders: doctor) meaning if a nurse is to earn 80k (due to her nature of work which is base on shift and she also enjoy 12 to 15 free days in a month) , a pharmacist is to earn 120k and a Doctor to earn 160k .this is what relativity is all about.in advance clime, the relativity is 1:2:3 I think(I stand to be corrected). So u can see Nigeria kinda relativity favours them than Doctors originally. What this guys r now asking for from the government is for them to be stepped up by 20% in such a way that the pharmacist and others earning around 120k will now turn to around 150k(WC is what we theDoctor termed pay parity).please judge for urself .will it be fair on the Doctors whose work in d hospital is more demanding than ds other professionals. So NMA is now trying to remind the FG to also remember us when they are implementing the 20% increment for others (this is what johesu guys so don't want).u can see bro.by the time u start hearing people saying things like dey all went to d same university that dey dont see why dr should be salary difference.please tell me is dis not parity dis guys want.it is also worthy of note to let ppl know that mbbs degree is a combination of 2 bachelor degrees (medicine and surgery degree together- no pride intended.smiles).so our brothers with Bachelor in dr various field of study know how difficult it is to achieve that bachelor degree let alone someone/Doctors DAT had to be patient to obtain 2 of such bachelor degrees. it is important we educate dem that all are not the same certificate even though we all went to same university.bro am waiting for ur reply

You have got it wrong. Doctors upgrade in salary was done, to bring about relativity in salary. JOHESU had cheated doctors in their CONHESS scheme and whatever upgrade that was done was a correction of error. Besides, the upgrade was a one time event. Others you are counting is probably request for implementation of agreement.

you know the Truth about the situation on ground but you want to join your colleagues in fighting an unjust war. That is the problem in Nigeria. Seeing the truth but difficult to voice it out because of victimization. Am not in the health sector but I have followed this problem and Nma has had an upgrade in their salary 3times in one year,,why can't others have theirs no matter how little

DrP2000:
The irony of the strike. Johesu are on strike but majority of the patients we treat now are johesu members or their relatives and the question is , why coming to hospital for treatment when you are on strike. One even rushed his son to our hospital yesterday, we resuscitated the dying child and even transfused the child. The man is a senior lab scientists in support of the strike, all these while the blood bank was locked up but when we requested for blood for his child, he secretly got the keys from.his colleague and they provided us with the blood we need. God is watching us all. Your career is what you chose for yourself don't envy others, if you want to earn like a doctor pls go and be one. So many JOHESU members now hang sthethoscope and doctors stickers on their car, impersonating to be doctors. Pls be proud of your profession and don't immitate others, I wonder what you are teaching your children

Please is Stethoscope for Doctors please?
