safarigirl:See if we had picked interests from say age 4 we would have remembered vividly. Thing is most of us didn't pick interest in it cos growing up as kids our lives were about play. And you can see many here remembering the names of wrestlers cos that was what captured our imagination. And football didn't have the global appeal it has today. So while Rashidi had welts on his back, parents today give birth to a child and one of the first things they buy is a ball. So naturally you can find an 8-10 year old child being more tactically aware than we were cos most of us, our interest picked up only in our mid - late teens. So elyte89 it has nothing to do with intelligence but rather with consciousness or what the Germans call zeitgeist - the spirit of the times. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by forgiveness: 5:46pm On May 20, 2018 |
ChrisKels: Well, sometimes you don't need to wait for some of these FB to play before you clamour for them once you have seen dem played and you're sure they are very good enough or if you have followed their progress from their academy until dey make the bench of a top club. Once you are sure den you can do like me here, who is ready to vouch for any player I know is good enough, regardless of opposition or resistance from here. I don't know Deji and Chima but I know we need natural LB players urgently after the WC hence my indifference to their call. 1 Like |

elyte89:No talk wetin you no know abeg. You are just making bland, general and false statements. I started watching premiership in 1996. That was the year Arsene Wenger came to Arsenal. I remember Marc Overmars, I remember Bergkamp, Teddy Sheringham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Peter schiemechel, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Lucas Radebe for Leeds, I remember in 98 Moustapha Hadji played for Coventry, I remember Paul Ince, I remember Robbie fowler, I remember when Owen came on the scene even before France 98, I remember Alan shearer of Newcastle, Amokachi at Everton, Andre Flo, Gullit coached Chelsea as player coach, gianluca Vialli same thing with Chelsea, I remember Ginola, I remember when Klinsmann came to Tottenham, I remember when Arsenal bought Davor Suker after France 98 where he was the highest goal scorer.I remember watching the highlights of Kanu three goals thriller against Chelsea. And the reason was simple:NTA network with Paul Ogazi, Aisha Falode and Emeka Onyadike used to show English premiership every Saturday. I said every Saturday and they were current, as in last week's match will be shown this week and highlights of all the other matches will be shown too. It was basketball before football. I had no interest in basketball but I still remember Jordan, Pippin, Hakeem and Shaquille O'neal and Rodman. On Monday me and my classmates Oche Ochete, Asor Adudu, Andrew Odeh and many others will sit down and talk about the matches. Heck NTA even used to show futball America on Wednesdays. The other leagues I knew by reading complete sports magazine. For example I knew when Taribo West was at Auxurre in ligue 1, I vividly remember not knowing he was Nigerian. Only at Atlanta 96 did I see him in our colors.I knew what Jay Jay did to Khan not because we watched it but we read it Abeg talk wetin you know. Oya rebuff what I just wrote. |

AbuMikey: 2 years? Nawa ooo The oldest event I can remember clearly was when I was that kind 4 years. Arguably my worst day my mama put fresh pepper to my eyes because she believed that I was the one that stole the fish from the soup pot. It is always in my memory because of some obvious reasons. |

wow that's good. the nff should mandate the u20 coach to draft this kids to his team if their age is still eligible. i know okoroji when he was a youth team player in bayern but dont know how far he has developed since joining augsburg. making the teams match day squad signifies he is highly thought of in the club ChrisKels: |

Mujtahida: Bro,my simple point is u can't analyse d game den d way u re analysing it now or 10years back, boss icon4s and odas don get my point And for asha80,picking interest den was largely on d pitch of play, children den would give deirself "nicknames" of popular footballer reigning den.I can remember vividly DT we do fight for d name rashidi yekini when we want to play 3aside and not an 8year old child or below sticking glue to a TV set b4 a match having d intention to watch live matches as we do now as adult, but kids of today, are more interested in watching live matches, I c dem very well in viewing centers arguing passionately prior to d match, emergence of viewing centers, internet in early 2000,made d sport more popular among kids now, meanwhile those who got to watch it den was thru default, maybe d family is watching d match or ur uncle or fada took u along to a place where dey re watching d match when NEPA took light at home. U dare not go out as a kid at night to watch matches den as a kid.but come area now, even if d match 11pm,kids of ages 8-10 will come and watch ball |

Humility017:Almost my experience too but at elyte89 said, how were you able to comprehend those match. I could only remember that we lost to Argentina, Sweden and drew England. The Sweden loss, I heard goal shout while in school and somehow we knew Aghahowa was the scorer. The match against England was boring to me cause there wasn't any goal. Whoever prosecuted those were inconsequential to me then cause I don't know. I could remember how my younger brother felt Senegal were being cheated but I never cared. I wanted the turks to win cause of their goal keeper. I could remember that fast goal too. All I heard was "what! 11 seconds?" I only knew it was quick. Then Germany winning Saudi Arabia 8-0. I began to love the Germans from that day. That feeling was so sweet that I was sad to learn that it's usually once in four years. |

Icon4s:Oga don't say. I was three years old when I watched Nagi the snake girl. I was among the first set of kids that started Pre nursery at airforce Base in Makurdi. Our school was close to corporal mess. I can remember mama Eneh Ameh our nanny(always had affection for her and it was mutual) I remember my classmates: Emma elijah, Wole Agoyi, Christopher. In the morning we'd watch movies and musical videos on the black and white TV that type na with boxlike cabinet. That was where I first watched Billy Ocean. Kpanpangolo kpangolo was our every morning warm up song. I was three years old. Did that for a year before I started nursery one at four years old. I say I can still remember alot. |
