....your own table soccer was modern,icon4s own was pure floor with Biro cover to.play it.
The modern table soccer involves you folding papers to create your players. The names and numbers are written with pen while markers, pen or pencil, or even all together, are used to paint the players to a desired Jersey colour. The defenders are huge while the forward players are thin.
The bottle top game, I chop everybody I met except my immediate younger brother. I was always cautious whenever I face him just to avoid losing. Last last I won the league based on GD wey I take chop others.

As in eh.... But now we got FIFA, PES, and co... Even when my uncle gave me Sega and Nintendo... I hardly played them. I played more of table soccer/Bottle tops soccer with my siblings and friends... Looolll... I was just hooked to the raw form of doing it live and not on some screen... But shaa I don adjust to the Screen own. The old editions of FIFA and PES were crap anyway compared to what we see now... Hahahahaha.

Well,I did not see MUCH OF Adokie...but Edebor was better than Okenla[more of a Musa but better ball sense]..Etokebe was awesome with pin point crosses...Elahor was slow but a waist breaker...Amuneke was a bulldozzer without finesse.....Chukwueze...hmmmm we hope for the best...HE MUST NOT CONVERTED TO A WING BACK OR LEFT BACK ...They already trying to destroy our Musa Yahaya

When the elders are talking, I be like this

Kog45:
Good analysis and good elyte89 agreed without reservation.I know some would be surprised that how can this man watched Expana 82 but that's the fact cos i followed the game passionately at a very young age.

I'm a typical stadium boy.My house situated at sultan road was separated from Ilorin township stadium with a fence, anytime i woke up it was me and main bowl saying good morning.

This gave me a great opportunity of watching local leagues live at a very young age, watching clubs like Water corporation later known as Kwara Bomber and now Kwara United and seeing most visiting teams was a great memory till dates

Talking about Nigeria football in the 80s just too easy for me,right from 1980 nations cup,Shagari cup,WAFU cup won for keep by great NNB of Benin, historical match between shooting star of Ibadan and Zamalek in 1984,this was the last match great Segun Odegbami played and announced his retirement unceremoniously cos the team was disbanded by then Oyo state governor Col.Oladayo Popoola.I remembered great Leventis united a division three club side who won FA cup known then as Challenge cup.

What of great and healthy rivalry between Leventis united and Abiola babes,1986 FA cup between the two clubs could be described as rivalry of copa de rel of Barca and Real.It was an own goal from Toyin Ayinla that beat Raymond King hands down that decided the winner in a tension soaked match.

The real traditional rival are Shooting star and Rangers international.Rangers was formed after Biafra war and to rival shooting star and to bring unity to already wounded country and it really brought real reintegration cos anytime Rangers have away match you see Igbos in their thousands supporting the team.

This really brought love and stability back to Nigeria.I remember watching Ranger and Shooting live in Ibadan in 1982 with my uncle who was a good supporter of Ranger international in Ilorin. We travelled from Ilorin to watch the match and come see carnivals displayed by the two sides. The match was tagged Chairman Christian Chuckwu vs Mathematical Segun Odegbami.

During this period we have good teams like Flash Flamingos,Bendel Insurance, Raccah Rover, First Bank,NNB,ACB,Stationary stores,IBWA,Femo Scorpions, Nasco jets,Sharks fc,Iwuanyanwu nationale,Enyimba Leventis united, Abiola Babes,Ranchers Bees etc

I had the opportunity of watching these teams live especially the group stage of Challenge cup which Ilorin township stadium always picked as one of the host.It was massive then seeing four solid teams camp in Ilorin for group stage.

My real knowledge of the game really started in 1984 afcon and it was a great tournament for young Nigeria team coached by Onigbinde and captain by 22 years old Stephen Keshi with likes of Muda Lawal,Henry Nwosu, Ademola Adeshina,Yisa Sofoluwe,Humphery Edebor,Bright Omokaro,Suday Eboigbe,Peter Rufai,Patrick Okala.

I remember the epic semi final between Nigeria and Egypt which we won by penalties, this match gave fame to Peter Rufai and in the final we lost due to inexperienced and Rufai missed the match due to injury and Patrick Okala replaced him.Cameroon had a great team from Espana 82,this was a team that didn't lose a match at Espana but good outing for Nigeria.

Talking about tactics and formations then?nobody cares, just see your team on the field of play doing it but then it was traditional 4-4-2 with four defenders two midfielder two wingers and two attackers.

Fabregas not being picked is no issue for me too. I agree with Julen on Fabregas. Thiago alcantara gets the nod and you also have an iniesta there (his last world cup obviously) plus their key man, Isco.

As for DM, well e be like say dem don inject Busquets with Anti-injury serum naa... cheesy

And I think Julen don't see the need for another natural DM because Spain thrives on passing their opponents off the pitch. They passing game will almost always sew them dominate possession. So they need the pass masters more and Busquets is more than just a DM. His passing and distribution is world class. Lol... No wonder Sir Mujtahida hates this Spain perfection.

Belgium coach Robert Martinez is a donkey for leaving Radja Nianggolan out of the world cup squad i still cant believe my eyes,Nianggolan is their Best Midfielder,he should be one of the first player in that list after hazard de bruyne,i can still forgive southgate for leaving wilshere but common not Nianggolan,I hope martinez fail at the world cup so he will be sacked.

Nacer chadli of relegated west brom making the squad and some others average payers from belgium league,it seems the coach has problem with the guy.

I was looking at the players in the 23 man list of the Brazilian national team and suprissingly Taison and Fred from the lowly rated Ukrainian league made the list ahead of Williams Jose and Leo Baptistao from the highly rated La liga, Malcolm from the highly rated Ligue 1, Vitinho from the highly rated Russian League, Allan from the highly rated Seria A and Richarlison from the highly rated EPL. Chai! shocked grin

I can't understand how a whole almighty Brazil will go so cheap and low for players in the Ukrainian league for players who did wonderfully well in the top 5 leagues in the world? grin

What could be the index used for selection by the Brazilian national team coach?

Then, I stumbled at this article where the coach gave the index and criteria used for selection then I know this country is successful in soccer due to their ability to choose players based on high level technical knowledge of the art and momentum of soccer. There I salute. But it isa different ball game here.

The coach didn't give a technical reason he choosed some players.

He just released the list with no explanation because na Africa we be. grin

Just read the the bolded and you are blown away.

Brazil's World Cup Snubbed XI
Brazil's 2018 FIFA World Cup Snubbed IX

By David Kappel - May 18, 2018 07:16 PM

Brazil coach Tite recently announced his 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and left out some pretty big names. Here is a strong starting line-up made up of Selecao stars who were not selected for the World Cup.

The 56-year-old announced his squad for the showpiece in Russia on Monday, opting to select just 23 names instead of a provisional squad, despite the deadline for the final World Cup squads only being on 4 June.

Tite gave some insight into his selection process, which was supported by his technical team.

"There were many doubts. Sometimes the decision of an athlete to be called depends on the system, the way the team acts, what I believe, what the technical committee believes," the coach explained, as quoted by Globo Esporte.

"Sometimes it's his technical momentum, solidity during the high-level playing campaign. The World Cup moment is the maximum, mentally the players have to be very strong, and they need to be in good physical shape, while we also take the technical and tactical aspect into consideration."

Despite the intensive scouting and preparations for the 23-man selection, there are still some Selecao stars who might feel hard done by.

Valencia goalkeeper Neto, for example, had a great campaign in LaLiga and was part of the latest Selecao squads, but was replaced by Brazil-based Cassio in the World Cup selection.

At the back, AS Monaco right-back Fabinho and Juventus left-back Alex Sandro would probably start for many international teams, but were not chosen by Tite.

David Luiz and Rodrigo Caio missed out as central defenders, while new FC Barcelona signing Arthur was hoping for a spot in central midfield.

Napoli midfielder Allan was one of the standout players in Serie A this season, and many hoped the uncapped player would be part of Tite's World Cup squad, but the 27-year-old was once again overlooked.

Lucas Moura and Malcom would also feature in many other teams on the wings, but they, too, were not considered good enough for Brazil. Anderson Talisca starred as an attacking midfielder for Besiktas this season, scoring 19 goals, yet the 24-year-old was also not called up.

Gremio striker Luan is reportedly on the scouting list of many Premier League sides, but the 25-year-old won't be in Russia, with Tite and his coaching team preferring other options up front.

Which Brazil stars do you think Tite should have called up to his World Cup squad? Have your say in the comments section below.
