i can understand the pessimisim and negative comments towards super eagles leading to this tournament..it is sort a coping mechanism to shield oneself from emotional anguish should these eagles flop..i used to be be in that state ..started in that nations cup semi finals against Ghana(cant remember if it was 2008 edition now)when Nigeria went ahead through a penalty in the second half after mensah brought down odewingie ..mensah was later sent off making Ghanaians to be one man down from then on. now instead of eagles to march on and pound Ghana that was surely demoralized having a man sent off(defender) and one goal down it now looked like it was Nigerian player that was sent off ..then Ghanaians piled pressure on us..we could not even string decent passes and attacks again..next Ghana then equalized and later on score 2 (by agogo i think) in the dying mins of that match..i have never being angry about a result the way i was before that day..my issue wasn't the loss but the manner eagles lost..coupled with so many uninspiring performance of eagles few years prior to that i emotionally logged out Nigerian national team football for sometime not even the 2013 winning of nations cup could get me that interested again(back then i felt it was just pure luck and nothing else)..couldn't even remember most of the actions of the eagles in that tournament. when the draws for qualifying for 2018 world cup was made i heard that Algeria,Zambia and Cameroon were in our group i remember telling a friend that we should just opt out of qualifying and go and rest (i didnt even know the day we played Tanzania en route to the group stage..when i heard we beat them i just yinmued)..i was forced by by that friend to watch the Cameroon encounter in uyo as i wasn't interested..however some displays i saw in that match ignited a lost emotion for i saw some sort of organization in the eagles play that had been lacking prior to then..it was later displays against Algeria ,Zambia and return leg of Cameroon that made me feel that ok it seems that there could be some sort of hope in this team strictly because of counter attacks, some level of organizational play and less controversy unlike in the past all i can say is that this team is likely going to have the best preparation to a world cup of any eagles team bar 94 set..there seems to be more organization and unity of purpose in this team than any other we have had going to a world cup..issues of cabals within and squabbles about match bonuses squad is absent unlike 94 and 98...however they can not be compared to 94 or even 98 set in terms of individual quality by any stretch.. so i say let me just have cautious optimism on this side because i have watched international football long enough to know organisation and unity can take you to a certain far in a tournament most times..but it reaches a stage where individual quality seems to take over and this is where i feel we would fall short(only the Germans seem to win tournaments with having and x factor player). so allow the people with supposed pessimism to have air their views without must condemnation because their mindset cannot be changed now until something spectacular happens..i try imagine my mindset now trying to convince my 2008 to 2016 mindset about eagles doing respectively well in Russia..would probably break my own head lol 3 Likes |

andrew444: Really! Kelechi Nwakali didn't flop!? Can you please tell me why he was not played and why his performance at first didn't get him a decent club in the same Eredivisie before he was demoted to a division lower where he didn't have an exceptional games based on this thread standard? Thank you. |

forgiveness: I don't need to argue with you, everybody know you in this thread,he played 9 games and 1 goal before he was dropped to the bench and he was not a striker, even Aaron Ramsey flopped when he was on loan but now he is a better player, the boy is only 19 and has time to grow. You can only hate but you can't change the boy,I don't need to argue with you because you are full of hatred for players who are not Yoruba. Manu Garba Takes Pride In Musa Muhammed’s Display Against Atletico Madrid – He Is A Born Leader Coach of the Nigeria U17 team Manu Garba has hailed the performance of Musa Muhammed for the Super Eagles B team in yesterday’s 2-3 friendly loss to Atletico Madrid. Musa Muhammed captained the Nigerian team in the encounter and Manu who nurtured the defender at U17 and 20 level, where he was captain of his team says Nigerians should expect more from the Istanbul Basaksehir man. ”I have always maintained that he has the quality to play at the highest level, so his performance yesterday didn’t come as a surprise to me. He is a born leader and that is why I named him captain of my U17 and 20 team”, Manu told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat. Rated as one of the surest candidate for the right back spot of Nigeria in the future, Musa lost his way following a big money move to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, where he is yet to get a game in the league after three years at the club. However Manu said his loan time with Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv has helped his confidence and he is beginning to grow as expected when he first burst on the scene with the Nigeria U17. ”Musa is still developing hence Nigerians should expect more from him. The regular run of games he enjoyed in Bulgaria has helped his development and I’m sure he will pick it up from there next season”, he concluded. **Osas Mahawi Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2018/05/23/manu-garba-takes-pride-in-musa-muhammeds-display-against-atletico-madrid-he-is-a-born-leader/ Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 22 days 5 hours 2 mins to go |

TheSuperNerd: I rate a player from the consistency of his club football first, all things being equal. Kelechi Nwakali a forward player has played near 40 games in the Eredivisie the easiest league to score goals in the top 20 leagues of Europe and scored 3 goals. No sentiment attached he simply not good enough for the SE. In addition there are far too many better players ahead of him. 1 Like |

TheSuperNerd: I am surprised how Cote Ivoire went down so fast..Yaya and Drogba left, the entire team crumbled...The only quality i see are Seri and Zaha...when you watch them, they seem to lack BELIEVE AND CONFIDENCE...as if they are playing a friendly.I pitied them against Gabon Again,at youth level between 2013-2015..we were meeting them at African Championships with Nwakali,Iheanacho,Success,Orji, etc what happened to all those Ivorien players Angban...etc? |

TheSuperNerd: Well, if he was spectacular in the few times he played, why was he demoted back to a lower division he came from? I believe he was sent from the lower division of the Eredivise to the Eredivise because he could desposed some low players to make the starting eleven but how come he couldn't do that? What is the name of the player in that team that made him difficult to play and be bench? How good is that player? |

komekn: you are shifting rhe goal post, i brought up bony because you said when an ordinary player play with world-class players he will look good, why didnt he come good under Pellegrini and then pep. Una go just sitdown they bring another man down, Iheanacho is a striker, a very good one at that |

ChrisKels: In all honesty I am bewildered by this signing. Leon was struggling in Mainz he was not first choice a team that has been flirting with relegation for so long. His lack of pace in the EPL may see him become a bench warmer. Going to the Championship if they are relegated will not be easy for Leon to stand out as well. But if he's getting paid more then a big YES he is almost 30 this will be his last big pay out. In this regard good move for him and his bank balance. |

He returned to MVV because Arsenal believed he should be getting more game time beyond the time scraps he was getting at VVV Venlo. It was not for lack of ability. It was for game time. Simple. You are just refusing to see the obvious truth. And K.Nwakali also had a few MOTM displays for MVV. I recall you said earlier that he didn't have. Look, just play it cool and balanced because when Kayode was also at a point not getting the daily 90mins his talent craved, you defended him saying that possibly the coach don't like or fancy him. Egbon... Please, Be fair and honest to the letter. forgiveness: |

komekn: The master of half truths strikes again... Loolll... Plsss don't lie or twist anything to pass across even more lies okay. 40 games in the eredivisie?? Hahahahahahahahaha... Kaaiii... He only has 9 eredivisie games and a goal to show for it even as a MF. Kelechi Nwakali is a midfielder. A bonafide Midfield talent who features as an AM and CM majorly. Seeing you use "forward player" is a very very lame attempt to lend your point again littered with half-truths odour some form of credibility... But Sir, it is not working... Unlimited22: This is a problem with our cultural appreciation of football. Players play to the gallery, show boating and doing sometimes unnecessary dribbles, drag backs, etc forgetting about end product. However the crowd loves it, unfortunately that kind of football will not win you anything in today's football environment. |

TheSuperNerd: I an being brutally fair. I have hardly seen him play but just looking at his statistics for a forward player they are simply abysmal. 45 games in the Eredivisie and only 5 goals that's not quality but very very far from it. He is also a forward player, what would you call that, outstanding performance |

@first bolded.... Tell that to Mrs Southgate. Not to me. Lol... @second bolded.... I repeat... K.Nwakali only has 9 eredivisie games. His appearances in Holland have mostly come in the Dutch Jupiler league (dutch 2nd division) mostly as a CM and AM. Your stats checks are faulty. @third bolded... He is a bloody midfielder... Hahahahahahahahaha... Forward player meaning what? That he is a striker or forward? So he played forward during his time in the jupiler? Abeg goan sleep joor... Lol komekn: 1 Like |
