You should spend relative to what you are worth. A fake $300 Rolex and a $10,000 Rolex do not both just tell the time. A $10k Rolex is more accurate and precise than a fake $300 Rolex. You think these MDs don't have "returns/results"? Why then are they putting in the effort to pass off the "I'm successful and I look like success" message? It's part of their MO. That's high finance. Surgeons don't have to do same for their job, they only have to put on scrubs. Eventually, if they're looking to become directors at centers where they have to kiss a$$, they'd have to tune up, buy more expensive tux and dinner dresses. It's social interaction/making an impression 101. You don't escape it.

You only get one chance to make a first impression and if you're about to land an HNWI as a partner, you don't go looking like a pauper or like you just stepped out of a golf course. It shows you have no pride in your job, no respect for your client, and if the client doesn't like you, no amount of results/returns will get him/her to sign up. He'd take his/her money elsewhere.
