Lakesyd5: 1. Your mother is british by birth irrespective of the nationality of her parent 2. Good documents 3. Good. She should plan to go with her parents if invited for interview by British high commission 4. Very very Good evidence - she need to look for her parent British passports 5. The mum passport used in travelling back to Nigeria was British or Nigerian? If her name is on her mother British passport. That is it. End of discussion 6. Good My advise is that your mother should rather apply for her adult British passport. Go online at www.gov.uk/overseas-passport and download the form. Fill, get a british citizen, Irish, EU, or US in Nigeria to counter sign. Post by DHL to the UK home office. The supporting document should be 1. Her Original birth certificate short and long 2. Parent British and Nigerian passports 3. Photo of her life in Nigeria and life in the UK if available, family photo with parent and siblings 4. Parent records of activity in the UK, Job, house address in the UK etc 5. Possible DNA test to proof paternity to her parents 6. Record of your mum activities in Nigeria - educational certificate, employments, etc 7. Original Marriage certificate if any 8. Original Birth certificate of all her children 9. Copies of data page of her current Nigerian passport. Please make sure you make a list of all original document submitted. |

Hello please I need a candid advice on this matter. I am planning to go back to the UK with my child to meet her father who resides in the UK and has also gotten his permit. But I don't know how to go about it. I have been traveling to the UK since 2011 as a student my Uncle(a British citizen) has been inviting me but I have been visiting my hubby too. The last time I went to UK was 2014 and i came back 2015 and I went to put to bed I was told to pay for the bills which I just finished paying. Now I want to go back with my child, I have changed my name on my passport as married to my hubby name who has also gotten his permit but my cousin still wants to invite me as usual, my child has a UK BC I have finished paying the NHS bills. My question is Do I need to disclose in my application that my hubby lives in the UK and I will also be visiting him during my stay or I should say he resides in Nigeria? Meanwhile his address and that of my Uncle are both on my Child's BC If I claim he resides in Nigeria I hope its not going to affect me wen he wants to apply for stay permit for me and my child And if I claim he resides in the UK will they need his passport data page to know his status in the UK and won't they assume that I may not want to come back to 9ja and then refuse my visa. And also my hubby doesn't want to be the one to invite us now due to long time response by home office.... He just wants a faster way since I have been traveling to d UK before. The application takes too long and a bit expensive especially for 2 people.... Please kindly advice me on what to do. I will be filling the application form anytime soon. Thanks |

Hi all, please I need advice in this matter. I submitted my visa application at the Ikeja centre yesterday. While looking at my documents today, I noticed that I made two mistakes: 1. I was in Switzerland for an internship in 2014 for six months. I was given a 3 months Schengen Visa and when I got to Switzerland I was given a legitimation card (similar to U.K’s BRP) which covered the actual duration of my stay. The mistake I made with this application was that I did not include copies of this legitimation card. This means that the ECO will only see the 3 months Schengen visa. Is there a way for the ECO to know that I had this card? Will they think I overstayed my visa? 2. Also, when I was leaving Switzerland, I went through Paris (stayed in Paris for two days and took a train from Paris to London where I was schooling). I did not include Paris in the section for countries visited in the last 10 years (I forgot) and I have Paris stamp on my passport. Is this a big issue? Because I was refused a U.K business visa in Oct 2017 because my sponsor(employer) had an overdrawn account and I didn’t add my bank statement (I thought I didn’t have to), I am really worried about these mistakes and I am thinking about withdrawing my application and re-applying immediately. I want to attend my brother’s graduation in mid-July. Is it advisable that I withdraw? @justwise @ekpotek please help |

omoijebujesha: The website is www.uk.tlscontact.com . Or better still, log in from the link from TLS notifying you that it has been transferred to UKVI. Though, we had our biometrics in Ikeja on the 2nd of May, we are still expecting after 17 working days. Let's keep in touch for any update. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 3:21pm On May 25, 2018 |
Oma91: 1. If you have overstayed in Switzerland, the immigration officer in France would have arrested you and place a stamp on your passport and probably you would have been deported. So if this is not the case, you have nothing to worry as it will not affect your application. 2. No. France and Switzerland are part of Schengen countries and you would only be stamped out of Schengen zone when departing from Paris to London. So nothing to worry about that. It is not compulsory that you must filled in all the countries you had visited in the 10 years. Since you have been refused before, they already have a file on you from your last application and they will certainly refers to it. Everything depends on your present circumstances and ability to convince the ECO of your intention to visit the UK. Good luck. 1 Like |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 3:40pm On May 25, 2018 |
sweetgold5:Did you overstayed on your last visit to give birth? Why would you want to misinform UKVI? Do you not know that by providing your child UK birth certificate in the application, that UKVI has the resources to track the father location anywhere in the world. So there is really no need to complicate things. Beside you need a written consent of the father to take the child into the UK, unless you hubby residing illegally in the UK, you have nothing to fear. You should be more worried about your current circumstance in Nigeria, and if it is strong enough for the ECO not to assumed a immigration intent on your part. Either way, you choose to visit your uncle or your hubby, is your circumstances in Nigeria that matters and will be considered by the ECO |

Hello everyone, Please I want to clarify if a cover letter would significantly increase UK visa approval chances/compulsory. I want to apply for a six months visa to attend my younger brother's graduation. My last UK visa expired in 2011 and it's duration was two years. Thank you. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by sweetgold5: 4:52pm On May 25, 2018 |
ekpotek: Thank you so much for your quick response Firstly to answer your question I did not over stay wen I had my baby I did not spend up to 6 months on my 2 years visa Secondly my hubby already has his stay permit and he is not illegal he got his stay last year and yes he would be writing a consent letter to bring his child to London Thirdly my circumstances in Nigeria is that I claimed I m a student running my masters degree.... I hope its strong enough or what other thing can I add? ..... I m not working yet Please I just want to know my fate if I disclose that my hubby resides in d UK. I m just a bit scared this time around and I don't have anyone to advice me. Please I want to know my chances...... And I also want to know the things/documents I would need to submit. Please kindly guide me.... I will appreciate it so much. Thanks |

sweetgold5: My advice since y hubby have gotten his Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or permanent residency (PR) ps indicate in your application that u are going to visit y hubby, this will even boost y spouse application when y hubby is ready to fille for u and yr kid, atleast the consulate officer will know that u av been visiting y hubby. Put y hubby address, indicate the status he has and even attached copies of his passport and residential stamp. If u say he reside in Nigeria it will affect y spouse application in future. Since y hubby has a permanent stay in the UK no need to be afriad, the consulate officer will not denial u visit bc u want to visit y hubby. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by sweetgold5: 5:29pm On May 25, 2018 |
monchat: Thank you so much for your response But is my uncle that is inviting me and also sponsoring my trip and stay but in colabo with my hubby he has been the one inviting me before my hubby got his stay. Do you mean I should just include it in my application that I will also be visiting my hubby during my visit. Secondly if my hubby writes a consent letter to bring his child to UK does he also need to put his passport data page and include his status or I should just be silent about his status and allow them to figure it out themselves..... I m scared ooo.... I hope they won't conclude that I won't be coming back to 9ja and thereby refuse my application. Please put me through more..... Thanks |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by monchat(m): 5:54pm On May 25, 2018 |
sweetgold5: Yes u av to include it that u are visiting y hubby. When u start filling the form and if asked are u married, which is YES , then u will be asked to provide details of y hubby and if he is living with u or not, if NO, u are asked to provide address were he is staying. U can see that, u av to tell the truth here bc if u lie, it will affect y future spouse application. They store every documents. More so u will be asked in the application if u know anybody in the UK and their status, u will state y hubby and uncle since they all av their permanent stay. U will also be asked if u will visit any of them, u will have to state yes. Yes, your hubby av to write a consent letter and scan his passport and the permanent resident stamp in his passport and email it to u. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by Adumii: 11:40pm On May 25, 2018 |
sweetgold5: You need to be carful , as I smell instant refusal here. Applying to go visit a spouse in the UK actually reduces chances of obtaining a visit visa. ECO will doubt you aren’t trying to avoid the spouse visa process and just want to step in with visitor visa and then become an overstayer . Based on Your Story, I presume you “married” your husband after obtaining your last UK visitor visa. And I hope your marriage certificate also proves that. If it’s not the case, don’t attempt visitor visa again. There is no way around it. Even if you want to claim your hubby is in Nigeria, you are shooting yourself the more. Another blunder , uncle is inviting and sponsoring you but you want to also visit your husband . My dear even if the eco is drunk at the time of processing your application , it’s a huge red flag. He/she will doubt you will rerun and will most likely refuse your visa. Another blunder, if you intend migrating to the UK anytime, do not lie again about Who your husband is . Cos it will hunt you. It’s not really rocket science , I am sure you already know these things. Best approach... go down the spouse visa route. Not sure how the visitor visa will play out. 2 Likes |

Folks, please I need advice on my application. I am filling my form online but I have two areas that I am confused about: 1. After I filled out my travel history: the US, Saudi Arabia, another page came that whether I have ever been refused visa to other country other than the UK: Here, I was refused F1 visa to study in the US in 2012 for my masters but I was given B1/2 in 2014. Do I still need to fill YES to this question? 2. I have savings in my dollar account worth $5700 in my Nigerian account sufficient for the two weeks course I want to do with flight and personal expenses. I will use it for my payments. I equally have about £6000 in my account in my base which I filled in the form as my savings and to use about £3000 in the form. Since I won't have access to my Nigerian Bank statement, can I add the information at the end of the form which says to fill out other details not mentioned? I will only have access to my bank account statement in my base. I need your input the gurus in the house. @justwise, ekpotek and others. |

Adumii: Now you are making me more scared and confused.... Seriously..... Please guyz what do I do! @justwise @ekpotek @monchat |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by monchat(m): 6:29am On May 26, 2018 |
sweetgold5: Well @Adumii has really hit the nail. There are so many things that will complicate issues on y application, so many questions will arrise when taking decision on y application. You said y uncle is sponsoring y visit, and y hubby stays in the UK as permanent resident, then why is he not sponsoring u and his child? This will raise eye ball and ECO will doubt the possibility of u coming bk.The decision will be base on:- That y hubby could av apply for spouse visa for u but, may be he is not able to meet the spouse visa requirements base on his financial level in the UK bc he has to be earning about £22,000 to fill for u and his child and if he does not earn dat, it will be difficult to fill for u guys and this can make them to take decision that u might not come bk. I could av prefer that, he applys for spouse visa for u, if he meets the requirements Or u apply and be the person that will sponsor y self or y hubby sponsor y trip if u guys av good job with monthly pay and comprehensive statement of account that will cover yr visit with y child , then yr hubby can write a cover note to explain that he is really missing his family and will like them to spend some weeks with him this summer, he wishes to apply for spouse visa for u next year but meanwhile he will like u guys to visit him for a short stay and conclude that, u guys will definitely leave UK after y stay. He can attach letter of invitation, statement of account, payslip. Also show attached pictures of u and hubby, kid, wedding pic and other pictures u are together. Since y spouse visa might take a while u guys can visit. I d'nt see anything wrong in visiting y hubby in the UK if he has a legal status. This is my advice , others can also add their own contributions. |

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by Phenmeson(m): 6:42am On May 26, 2018 |
Ndkings1: Even those who are in UK & submitted a Bank statement of £1000 to invite their love one's are been rejected due to insufficient funds. N.B most countries want you to have some cash left after you make a trip. Check Australia or Canada requirements and compare with UK |

Thank you very much Ekpotek. Although I still want to find out about withdrawing as I feel that I didnt put my best foot forward. Do you know how long it would take to get my passport back? Will it affect my next application as I intend to resubmit immediately( the graduation is mid- July). I really dont want to risk another refusal. ekpotek: |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 8:53am On May 26, 2018 |
monchat: @Sweetgold5. Many spouses have used visit route to enter the UK and then apply to remain in the UK as spouse of ILR/PR or British Citizen in the past. So the ECOs are aware of this route and have block it. Since you are still a student, you do not have any serious economic, Home and social ties to make you return back to Nigeria. I see a refusal here if you apply for a visit visa. Best bet is to apply for spouse visa when your hubby can afford it or perhaps ask him to visit Nigeria to see his child. Attempt by you to tried to cover up using your uncle or stating that your hubby reside in Nigeria may fetch you a 10 years ban, which can only be over turn by a spousal visa route. This also is not as straight forward as you think. So think carefully before you commit this blunder. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 8:58am On May 26, 2018 |
Oma91: Sure you can withdraw your application at anytime before a decision is made. However, you won’t get your money back. Your withdrawal will not affect you next application, but your current application form and document submitted will still be filed for you. How long will it take to get back your passport depend on so many factors, such completing the withdrawal form, getting it across to UKVI, finding your passport and sending it back to TSL for you to collect it. Like I said your reasons are nothing to require such a move. Good luck. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 9:08am On May 26, 2018 |
sweetgold5: Chilled. Think carefully what you are about to do. Your hubby is not yet a British Citizen, so any misinformation on you part about him can actually affect him and his stay can be withdrawn. Follow @Adumii advise. A word is enough for the wise. |

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by justwise(m): 9:37am On May 26, 2018 |
Adumii: That is not entirely true she can apply as long as she meets the requirements, applying to take her child to see the daddy is perfectly good reason for visa application. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by justwise(m): 9:40am On May 26, 2018 |
BabaOman: 1. YES is the answer is that is the truth. 2. Include all your bank statements as long as you can defend the sources of money in them with evidence |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by ekpotek: 9:41am On May 26, 2018 |
pushy8: A cover letter is used to explain to the ECO certain entries in your application form and document submitted. It suffice for additional information section of the application form. If you have nothing to explain, then you do not need a cover letter. It only serve to clarify information for the ECO. So it does help the ECO to quickly arrive at a decision either to approve or refuse a visa. |
