If he didn't, he might not have gotten injured. Salah wanted to get a foul (by falling so it would look as if he was nudged by Ramos), but Ramos decided,"dude, why don't we fall together ".
And the point here is that, Ramos had nothing to do with the arm that got injured. Ramos was tangled with the right arm, while Salah fell on his left shoulder...and look where is being treated.
