We all rush into the bus, like some one been chased by high way robbers, my connection man had all together, 11 passengers, we where 9 adult 2 minors and the bus we enter already contain about other pessengers, they where 10 in numbers, the funniest thing was, there was confusion on everyone's mind no one know where the other group was going, I was in the sitting close to one girl, Hello dear, how far Gud evening bros Am jamie, can I know your name please? Am victory, Where are you heading to?? North and you Abuja, am going for business When victory heard this, she turn her face like some like someone been lied to,she start to they fume, Are you a student?? I asked, She just stay mute, like I wasn't talking to her, what a world. Jamie, abuja far sha, ebo finally spoke to me for the first time in a long while Bros benin to abuja nau like 6 to 7 hours oooo, Hey, you all listen carefully, switch off all mobile fone, and keep quiet, this place is very dangerous at nite... the driver finally said something for the first time since we got into this bus, we where all quiet and really scared, but for the first time my confusion vanished, I looked at Victory and hissed silenty (so na europe, you sef the go) After about 1hour 30minutes, the driver respoke, We are now at okene, close to custom check point and incase they ask you where you are coming from just don't say anything, allow only the guy sitting at the front speak, ok Ok sir, we all chorused It was already midnite I guessed, because outside was so dark, and I was really hungry and tired, but when I turned and saw those two kids jejely sitting on their mom's lap I regathered courage......all through the journey, we all have slept alot of times. Wow finally, the bus stop at the outskirt of abuja, and as we are getting off, we are entering another bus, and off we go again......... To Be Continued At this moment questions and comment is most welcome, so as I will know am not alone on this thread. God bless you all 2 Likes |

It was 12.30am when we got to the oustkirt of abuja, everyone was so tired and hungry, only wispers was heard no one dare speak out, the environment was as quiet as a grave yard, only the sound of cricket and night bird could be heard, and the cold was unimmaginable...... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.............they are complete, hello everyone am MR X, and i will be in charged of taking you to zenden, please your maximum cooperation is needed. so stay calm And off we go, (A LITTLE RECAP) before i left the house for this journey, i had no immediate brother or sister abroad, i was so determined to be the first person to be abroad in my family, so when i was about to leave home, i told only my younger sibling who unfortunately came for a visit the exact morning i was about to leave and i warn him never to disclose my where about until i ask him to do so. After paying to the connection man i was left with only 500 naira and out of the 500 naira, i used 100 naira as transport to get to where my connection man ask me to meet with the rest of the group, and i also used 50 naira to buy buns, so at the end i was left with 350 naira as my physical cash.so i still had a little worry, i began reasoning, how will i cope when we get to saba, and another thinking gave me courage atleast saba to europe is not that far, moreover if i get to saba i will put a call through to family, so i thought. We pass through kaduna, a very beautiful city, as at when we passed through, infact right from abuja, night was like day, all over you will see street light and traffic light in street and major roads, some us began to reason, if this is still nigeria. After kaduna here comes, Zaria another but lit bit fine city, even at night zaria was still hot, i imagined, how people could still live there, we eventually got to kano, around 4.30am. 212, 212, 212 that was what woke us up, i look at my friend, who was now sitting beside me during when we got down on our first bus stop, omo wetin be 212 again nau, i tire oooo, he laughed Not until the driver of our bus park that we discovered, 212 was a name of bread. how much?? na 250 aboki, oya bring one. i said okay aboki. i had to buy it since our next stop was saba, atleast i fit dey eat am small small, so i thought. but generally in life, man propose God dispose, at times not the way you plan things you follow, probably there might be a different plan for you. kano was very far and long, although a little bit warm not too hot as at the time we passed through, Kastina, we got to kastina around 8.00a.m, a place full of mostly clay soil and cows, they even used cattle as means of transport, when we go to kastina, we got down, along the tarred road and immediately we re_entered a golf 4, this was the begining of fast and furios, nigeria version. The drivers driving are animals in human skin, they drive like mad, they don"t care about the passengers, we even heard stories that if maybe custom is on the way, immediately the passengers get down off they go, to avoid losing their taxi, they are mostly hausas and niger boys, their job is to drop us at maradi......... Maradi another very funny town, a place where naira is like gold, things are very expensive, one dirty satchet of water 20 naira. why i used the term dirty is because, the satchet alone will be full with dust and the production is very poor, this is where you can change your naira to cifa if you so which, as at the time we where here, 750naira was equivalent to 1500cifa, tose with money changed, but me since i had no money left, i jejely sit down, the place we where was like a town hall, but used as loading park, there is a custom/immigration office not too far from here,we where taken there to be searched and checked if we where with passport, and later taken back to the town hall. In maradi, they are friendly and tolerant, i gave the little i can, atleast some clothes, which the reciever gladly accepted, we where made to rest because of the distance we where coming from, in this place everyone (travellers) are made to wait for the others coming, they don't always go alone, and this was where MR X jouney ends, alhaji usman, is now the next trolley, a very wealthy man so i guess, he controls about 9 to 10 buses, long buses i mean, and he is well respected in the community, when he came towards around evening the crowd that surrounded not even we the passengers, it was like he was a president. The time was around 5 or 6pm, when we left maradi, the people around had this look of sadness, like when your love ones is about to go for a long journey, not really their fault though, because how will you feel, when a lonely community is a little busy and all of a sudden the whole place is about to be lonely again, and not also our fault either, we were just a passerby or so i guess. it was in miradi i knew, we just started the journey, well a lot of writters always say a journey of a thousand mile start with just one step.......... That evening we were all packed into the bus like sardines, when i mean sardines i believe you know what i meant, no breating space at all, it was a 18 sitter bus, but we were 30 in the bus, 7 in a row, that conductor sit in a normal bus, was all occupy, if any one that has been following this story has ever gone this route you will know what i am talking about, right from the begining, we were all shouting and cursing, because since we paid good money we were not suppose to pass through this turture, the driver never paid attention to us moreover he is not fluent in english, only hausa. we got to the first police check point the driver got down to settle them, it seems the get paid heavily for this trade, and moreover the police on this route are aware of the business, it is some how legal that is if you settle. we got to the second check point and the same ritual continues........ 4 Likes |

when we almost got to the third check point, the driver came down, and was speaking his local dialect, tht we all have to pay 500 cifa each or he will drive us down to the police station, we started complaining that we have spent alot on this journey and we are left with no money, this stupid driver just jejely went and put off the vehicle, and by this time the place was so dark and dewy, there was cold every where. niger is one country you won't want to stay not even for a million naira, in niger the land mass is in a very large capacity, there are more animals than human, the first city is maradi, and from maradi to zinder, which is our next stop was not suppose to be long but for the land mass, and the more the delay the more problem, since all the pessenger in the bus where first timer, we had no option than to concur, when the driver first said we have to donate 500cifa, i was among the group that responded negatively, No way driver, you can't ask us to repay 500cifa, not after what we have paid to our connection man, ah that wan no fit possible, someone said at the back sit There was really a big arguement, some supported the driver while others supported my side, the thing really caused a lot of confusion, and there was really no time for this, ebo was very quiet all through this while, i was confused not knowing who he supported. how far bro, who yu support sef, abi this matter no consign you bro e be consign me ooo, just that, the money be no too big nau, what to do nau, omo yu know say na my last bar, me tey buy that bread nau, i know nau, all join wetin no wan make me talk since, hey, make una listen, ebo shouted in a loud voice, everywhere was na quiet lets do it this way, if you have bring, if you don't have just stay calm..... that was how we gathered the little we can, but at the end we could only get 5000cifa, (every one was like i don't have any money) anyway after enough plea, the driver later accepted to add to it..... we continued the journey and after about 1hr 30minutes, that was after passing the third check point, we finally got to zinder, all my mind i was like oh thank God finally we don reach sabah, i never knew we haven't even gotten to middle of the journey...... zinder (pronounced as zinden)has a very beautiful veiw, although we got there by night, we could still see street light all round, the building we where taking to was a very high fenced building, everything was so planned as soon as we got to the gate it was open and closed as soon as we got in, like a computerised gate. 7 Likes |
