Sorry for the delay.

Based on your response, if by homosexuality being unnatural you mean it not being in accordance with nature, it then begs the question of your notion of what it means for something to be in accordance with nature. You seem to forget that nature is incredibly diverse and it manifests in a plethora of ways. Not only do complex organisms like ourselves and other life forms that comprise nature manifest an array of traits, there is also variation within the manifestation of a particular trait. How then can you separate natural traits from unnatural traits, especially bearing in mind all the factors that influence the flourishing of particular traits in a given environment, most of which are externally mediated?

I think the problem is that you seem to be construing the predominance of a behavior as an indication of it being natural, while you construe other variations of that behavior that aren't as prevalent, as unnatural. This couldn't be further from the truth in my estimation. Is heterosexuality the only natural expression of human sexuality? How about asexuality? Are people who aren't naturally attracted to either sex abnormal? What you fail to realize is that variations within behaviors ALWAYS exist, and of course some variations aid the proliferation of a species, but this doesn't make them the only natural form of expression. This notion erroneously assumes that nature tilts towards the sustenance of life, which also isn't true, as nature is inherently self contradictory and most of the time moves to destroy itself, as is evidenced by natural disasters and deadly viruses. I mean, would you say cancer is unnatural since it doesn't aid the perpetuation of the human race? Or are sexually transmitted diseases unnatural since they are by their very nature against sexual reproduction?

If heterosexuality is natural, then are all various forms of it also natural? By your definition, all variations of heterosexual behavior are in fact natural. So an attraction to the opposite sex that's fueled by a desire to rape and abuse during copulation is also natural right? The desire of a man to have sex with a 12 year old girl is also natural right, since it falls within heterosexuality?

This thread was dead on arrival because using the word 'natural' is as stupid as using the word 'normal' in a sentence. Nature is all things inclusive, mothers eat their young in nature and they're here debate 'sex' grin

I don't wanna vex... you comment was refreshing smiley

I say this as someone whose view may be lacking some understanding on the subject, so I mean no offense for my assumptions.

You see the world is changing and there’s a reason to why everything is happening. I do think being gay is a mental issue, here's how I got to the conclusion:

Now, while you read this try to understand what I meant because I’m not trying to offend/insult anyone -

A lot of our human norms and needs evolve as we grow and one of the things that do is our sexuality. In this process of the evolving of our sexuality, things can be altered and different results will show up. In terms of sexuality, many things play a role in altering someone's sexuality. A great example would be an early access to pornographic material and the subsequent mind play it brings.

This is just a simple example, another example would be the many prisoners that turn gay during their time in jail with no access to a different sex, their sexuality had to go somewhere.

This is a tough one but there’s a reason why the percentage of gay people in the world is increasing everyday compared to say 20 years ago. It's not because the world population is increasing. There isn’t really a specific reason other than sexual redirection that I am aware of.

But in the animal world you have aphenomenon where 1 in 10 rams are gay or 3 in 10 penguins etc. That’s a very interesting fact (I suppose). This starts the argument that being gay is a natural thing and not a misdirection of sexuality.

Some animals have shown homosexual behaviours even when the different sex is around. And that's even more interesting.

Is this the case?

I would argue the contrary. Animals do stuff extrictly for their physical and emotional survival. How? A bear mom would leave her kids if she’s sure there's no way of running away. A chicken eats her egg if it couldn’t find any food. Female spider kills and eats male spider after mating. Etc.

But why would an animal have a same-sex partner if the opposite-sex is around?

I think it's more of an animal's simple instincts to do things, some animals like wolves have only one partner through their lives even if the other died. And they can be over-programmed too. A dog that used to enter a door after the owner opens the glass door. One day the glass door was open, the dog waited outside until the owner actually closed it and re-opened it in view of the dog

This means that some animals are wired to do stuff in a way that don’t change. And if this programming got altered this results in weird behaviours.

For example, when female spiders eat their mates, they do it because during the process of their evolution something changed in a way that forced their brains to break the rules because they couldn’t find an alternative. Therefore when the natural process of evolving gets altered weird results show up.

But the above example can’t apply to humans because the evolving disruption of the natural process of sexual evolution happens in someone’s life not during the early evolution. Why? Because the number of gay people is increasing each year.

This does not necessarily prove that being gay is a mental illness, although I prefer calling it sexual misdirection. From my little understanding this proves that the increase of gay people isn’t linked to a biological fact but to altering of a man/woman’s sexual nurturing process. However the existence of gay people isn’t all linked to that but part of evolution.

Conclusion: There are gay people because of evolution, but being gay doesn’t mean you’re born with it, it just means your sexuality was being altered in the background. smiley

Dashing is less commonly used to refer to women but it's not entirely wrong.

Dashing: Synonyms - make a striking appearance, attractive

May be I should have just said pretty or beautiful but those words feel too common to me.

Thanks for pointing that out. smiley

Is anal sex with the opposite sex also unnatural? I ask because I notice people that play the unnatural card aren't as vocal about anal sex between 2 different sexes as anal sex between 2 same sexes
Companionship is not sex related
This is a different ball game if you ask me because the same guy that penetrates a lady's anus will be disgusted when a guy offers his own, and to answer your question directly I would say it is unnatural because the anus is designed to pass out not to recieve.

It's equally refreshing to know that someone else shares my point of view and approves of the validity of my arguments.

I actually created this thread to have a one on one discussion with the said user because her post on the home page was strewn with very weak arguments and she seemed to have the support of lots of people, which was something I found baffling. Surprisingly enough, the post you quoted wasn't responded to by her or anyone else and my thread was highjacked by people who seemed to be having a humdrum Sunday afternoon.

To be sincere how could society influence homosexuality, especially in Nigeria where everything is totally against it?
Please don't say this because I was very young when I first encountered a gay man. He was a yoruba malam and only god knows how it would have ended if I didn't tell my parents. Perhaps he would have taught me to be gay because I was too young then to know what it truly is and I think that was why I told my mom about it.

My point is this, many people were abused by these gay folks when they were young. Nigeria have a lot of rich and poor men who are busy catching them young. It is everywhere so forget the talk about everything being against them.

For now, there's no concluded scientific evidence to prove that it natural so it remains unnatural until there's one.

I do not wanna talk about lesbians because in Nigeria, especially Abuja, a straight person can be recruited and she will start sleeping with a fellow woman.

On a lighter note, if I was to personify nature, I'd refer to nature as a sadistic, suicidal, self harming, artistic, unsympathetic beauty, with a serious case of bipolar disorder and an extremely unhealthy interest in morbidity.

My stand too. My friend's father once said to him "you see that thing you're doing with that girl outside? I'm not saying that you should not do it but it is meant to be done inside" That's just it. Wanna be gay? Then be gay but don't rub it on my face.
