bidex111:Whoever put this video together doesn't know what they're talking about. For one, they're Recces, not Recce Commandos. Second, they included all sorts of different units like the Parabats, 6SAI which is an air assault battalion of the Army etc. And some foreign units. And the police STF! 1 Like |

Odunayaw: What's not to understand? It's a joint command of SOF from all 3 services of the Armed Forces: Army, Navy and Air Force. They're still each responsible for their own publicity within the Command. Give it time, Nigeria will soon sort out her Special Forces environment. 2 Likes |

DHQ DEVELOPS NEW VETERAN ADMINISTRATION MODEL, FUSE ASSOCIATIONS The Nigerian Military Veterans have resolved to come together under a proposed umbrella body to be named Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN) to replace the existing Nigerian Legion. This unification was part of the communiqué reached at the end of a three-day workshop organized by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) for military retirees held in Abuja from 21-23 May 2018. The workshop tagged, “Unification of Veterans’ Association in Nigeria: A Panacea for Building a Vibrant Veterans Association,’’ was well attended by the leaderships of the various affiliated veterans’ associations across the country. The workshop was the first of its kind and an initiative of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), which addressed the issue of effective veterans’ management and administration system and the welfare of military retirees. Speaking at the workshop, CDS, General Gabriel Olonisakin who was the Special Guest of Honour, said the idea behind the workshop is to promote the unity and welfare of veterans while in retirement. He explained that the proliferation of veteran associations in the country has hampered the progress of military retirees. According to the CDS, “it is our desire to see the emergence of a single unified body for effective management and administration of all our military veterans.”He added that the proposed veteran system would be a legacy that will not only benefit the military retirees but also those still in active service as government would seek to adequately address issues of veterans welfare. The CDS recalled that the quest to seek a robust veteran administration was mooted last year. “Thus, as part of our efforts to improve the administration of our veterans, I approved a team to visit Egypt in December 2017 to study the Egyptian model of veteran administration. He said while the Team recommendations are being considered, “the DHQ organized the workshop to fashion out an appropriate veteran administration model in Nigeria.’’ General Olonisakin, described the Nigerian Armed Forces as “the pride of the nation,” adding that the military have been the stronghold of the nation despite contentious trends that often threaten the unity of the country. He said aside from defending the territorial integrity of the nation, support to civil authority as well as maintenance of international peace and security, the Armed Forces is an embodiment of qualified personnel who can also contribute to national development. The CDS also congratulated the participants for a successful deliberation, noting that “the outcome of the workshop will certainly be the basis of future engagements on the way forward for military veteran association which is the proposed Veteran Federation of Nigeria.” Earlier, the Director of Veteran Affairs Division, Major General Edward Obi while welcoming the participants to the workshop, appreciated the country’s patriots, especially the Civil War veterans for what he described as “greatest sacrifice of self for the peace, security and development of the country.” He further stated that their sense of patriotism is never in doubt and does not end with the termination of active service. Major General Obi who commended the CDS for initiating the workshop, explained that it is expected to form the nucleus for the attainment of the standards that is obtainable in countries where veterans are highly respected and accorded privileges. A paper on the “Imperative for Unification of Veterans’ Association in Nigeria was delivered by Major General SD Aliyu Retired. While two other papers titled: “Veterans’ Administration in the 21st Century: The United Kingdom and the Egypt Experience,'' were delivered by Brigadier General Charlie Calber, the British Defence Attaché to Nigeria and Major General Umar Retired.

tdayof:Members of the DSS and Police are part of the AFSF. AFSF is funded and coordinated by the Office of The National Security Adviser. Members of the DSS along with Policemen and SF from the Navy, Army and Air Force were selected and received same training. Off course the DSS won't be deployed like regular SF from the military in front line combat, there's would be covert deployment. |

bidex111: "Who gives him the authority to claim a Nigerian SF structure is not sorted out?". No matter how inconsequential his opinion is on this matter or matters concerning Nigeria, i think he has a right to his opinion. Yes, AFSF members are all SF of their original service branches. They were never regulars. |

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Nobody: 11:12am On May 29, 2018 |
bidex111:On this comment you made here. Only the Nigerian Air Force has a Regiment unit. The Regiment is a Specialized Light Infantry unit. That's the Air Force special forces unit, formed directly as a response to the base attack in maiduguri which destroyed 2 NAF attack helicopters and some old MIGs. |

tdayof:They are operating as a covert detachment of the AFSF. There's no AFSF unit in the various branches of the military, when soldiers operating under AFSF are are withdrawn, they move to their various regular Regiment, SBS or Army Special Forces units. |

bidex111: Certainly he shouldn't talk about what he don't know but his point is buttressed with the fact that under the current administration everything is muddled up as no one knows exactly anymore which is which a trait of inconsistencies since they came onboard from using Army VIP protection for presidential security to reverting again to SSS (DSS) cover. So from the face of it he's got a point. But is it well sorted out? That's not very clear as there are overlapping use of various SF units for simultaneous tasks appearing under the banner of AFSF even if they are not originally members. Original AFSF combat operators carry the tag of ID and are drawn from the Armed services of the Army, NAVY & Air Force and trained abroad. However the chain of command is well sorted out for the AFSF which is directly under Defense HQ. |

Henry240: No Henry, only the Armed Services provide members of the AFSF. Bidexii is right on this one. Other security agencies trained for COIN partake in operations but are not members of AFSF. Btw Bidexii is a respected officer and gentleman of the Nigerian Army, he knows what he's talking about. |

CovertX:Pointless arguments are unnecessary. Bidexii is also not in the military. Already, Nigerian security personnel from the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS) have been dispatched to Russia for training as Special Forces to combat the Boko Haram insurgents who are mounting stiff challenge to the Nigerian security services. As part of the agreement between Nigeria and Russia, a group of Nigerian security personnel are already in Eastern Europe for training as Special Forces with another batch, made up of the Army, Police and DSS billed to leave Nigeria next month to join the other three batches that are already in training. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/boko-haram-fg-turns-russia-china-usa-uk-fail-nigeria/amp |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by CovertX: 2:54pm On May 29, 2018 |
Henry240: Nothing is pointless in my point. Security agencies are not the Military. That they are trained for COIN which is a known doesn't make them members of the AFSF that take their orders directly from the CDS. And Bidexii is a fine officer of the Nigerian Army and should be respected. |
