Joebie: That, i do not rate the league does not make his record (so far) less outstanding for the level. Lokosa should be judged on his performance not sentiments because he plays in the npfl. The decision should be based on that not because it is good for the NPFL. Our continental performances have not improved after 2014 WC even though we took local players. There will always be good players in the league but the league does not aid their development or growth. One good player that comes out the league does not fix the serious problems in the league. 7 Likes |

Who is sentimental here? Let’s forget for a moment that he is an NPFL player. I reiterate he was one of our better players yesterday. if I was doing a player screening as a scout yesterday, I would pick him. But the issue here is that the context is World Cup in view. We are all guilty of being sentimental in this regard. Because we all expect he would be dropped because he has not been tested and proven in Europe — forgetting his NPFL goals. Even Rohr is sentimental for the same reason. Even if we hear Lokosa has been impressive in camp, we all know he won’t still make the final list. tbaba1234: 1 Like |

I won’t lie. At this point, I trust Echiejile more than Aina DEFENSIVELY Modified Trust me, it’s got nothing to do with that foul near the 18 yard box. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Joebie: You mentioned before that it will be "good for the NPFL". That was why i said that. His performances should be separate from what is good for the NPFL. Players performing on a higher level are certainly going to be considered above players playing at a lower rated league. It is not sentiments. The player from the lower league has to do extra to prove that he can perform at a higher level. If a Nigerian scores 30 goals in Latvia, he is most likely not to get invited to the national team until he moves to a better league and proves himself. There are levels in football. Fred Friday scored a lot of goals in Norway but the goal output reduced when he went to a better league in Holland. Football has levels, a player has to show that he is up to the level. It is not sentiments. 2 Likes |

Against England I'd love to sew us lineup like this Uzoho -(another big game to boost his confidence. but 45 min should do.. another gk should come in for him..make Rohr no stingy) Idowu Ekong Omeruo Ebuehi-(if the knock he picked against DRC is nothing serious. but sha Rohr should give him 45mins) Onazi Mikel Iwobi Etebo Ighalo Moses I wanna see Iwobi in the AM role again... its becoming clearer that he is better there than on the wings.. His combination with Mikel might provide us with enough creativity.. Etebo playing on the wing is majorky because of Simeon injury... Musa is unlikely to start games. . 1 Like |

I said “ALSO good for the NPFL”. That was sarcasm because some quarters said his invitation was to satisfy some who believed he deserved it on the back of his NPFL form.If his record is good enough to make the 30 man list and he acquitted himself well when he was tested in a match he does not deserve to be dropped right now. Or are u saying the other players were not also playing to impress? Im sure a number of players needed to put an outsanding show to solidify their place in the team but failed. I understand all that league comparison stuff. My point is don’t raise the bar higher for an NPFL player. Since he has already been invited on merit he should be judged by the same standards, else what’s the point inviting him in the first place? Modified Some quarters said it was to promote the NPFL at the same time tbaba1234: |

Joebie:If Rohr insists on playing with 2 destroyers, then we might as well use or full backs for width and have Iwobi drift inside from the left. This is where Aina might be better suited than Echiejile |

Yea.. when Aina made his debut I was like ‘Alas! Bye bye Echiejile” but the he has not done anything noteworthy since then. Now we have to pray Idowu does well cuz he is our only hope at LB safarigirl: |

Joebie: See when it comes to these lists, there will always be good players dropped. Many good players did not even make the 30. An example, Karibe Ojigwe before the 2002 WC scored an outstanding free kick in Lagos but was dropped the next day. He had a good game and scored a goal and was still dropped. At this point, Rohr already knows his 23 except for maybe 1 or 2 contentions. It will take a great performance to change it. I do not think we got a great performance from anyone. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 12:38am On May 30, 2018 |
No qualms as long as the 23 are “great” eventually. Agbo has been making the list because of his consistency in the Jupiler league, but never tested. Ajagun should have got that slot based on the same standards, and also considering we have lots of DMs already. I don’t think Rohr has the best men around him. I read how the 30 man list was picked, wirh the others involved. Trust me, We are going to need “great” backups at the Mundial. I hope it pans out well. tbaba1234: |

Joebie:When I watched Aina play his first match for GWG I just knew he was over hyped cos he was born and raised in England. To be honest, he isn't really a top class player. He plays like a schoolboy and that's why he may never kick a ball for Chelsea. He isn't good with tackles (miscalculated tackles etc) and he's got no good pace. |

Joebie:I don't want to see him in that team again. What annoys me most is how our complex-issues-journalists hype this mixed race players. I remember the hype that followed Aina's switch of nationality. For a moment I thought he was better than Kylian Mbappe, I didn't know he was refuse dumped by England. Let me tell you, even England Z team, Aina cannot make it. |

Luckyroro: Ola Aina is not a bad player like that na!! He is good offensively but has defensive frailties. He is the best crosser among the fullbacks. I do not think, we have even seen the best of him for Nigeria. Even if he does not make the WC, he has a future with Nigeria. |

I want to know why a certain Maarouf Yussuf who plays in the Egyptian Premier league, was not given another look in at LB. He's had a great run of games so far this year. Look at his stats. And he is a left-footer for that matter.

tbaba1234:Sir, I hate to differ with you but trust me, I completely disagree with you on this one. If Aina gets a shirt in GWG then its out of sentiment and not merit. From the days of Babayaro, Udeze, Taye Taiwo (even Juwon Oshaniwa) You could see what is required of our LBs. Aina has got none of those qualities. 1 Like |

There is no need to cry over split milk. The coach has selected and that is it, we can not add but he can subtract from the list. I don't understand why some of us are still talking about players that are not on the list. Lets go out there and support our team, good or bad. Up Eagles. Aina is not Babayaro, and this is not 10 years ago, this guy has footballer sense and I think he will complement our midfielders and forward players well. Positives, he can give us the long throw advantage, he has height, can actually play midfield, hence a wing back. 1 Like |

Luckyroro: Maybe the red carpet was rolled out to wean him over from England. Lots of promises must have been made. That could explain his lackadaisical attitude or maybe he was never that good afterall. If he was home based, his SE career will have been over by tongue twisters here. Rohr will have my respect if he has the balls to drop him. 3 Likes |
