He is talking about how all other health professionals wanted to read medicine but failed.
I used the late professor akunyili to make a point.
Everybody wanted to read medicine yet in every year jamb, people who put Nursing science as first choice surpass those who put medsurg.
I am not here for professional comparism jamboree.
Just wanted to correct his delusion that was enshrined into him in the medical school.
The Nigeria health sector is in a mess because of a profession that do not want their business.
Health service is a team work, foreign doctors know that, that's why nurses, lab scientists etc over there are very happy to work with them.
This recent johesu strike have shakes down the little professional harmony that exist in the health sector

The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel was reached by Nigerians and all stakeholders of the Health Sector on Thursday as the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) called off it’s 6 weeks strike action following the well thought intervention of Senate President, Bukola Saraki after a series of meetings with the leadership of the Joint Health Sector Union.

Seriously I don't care if you guys goes back to strike. I hope and pray that the Labour Minister has balls to implement NO WORK NO PAY POLICY. You guys are no less than boko haram or killer herdsmen. The Ugly Johesu leaders should tell their members that they got 5m each for meeting with Saraki or should forever remain silent. Saraki is not salary and wages commission or the executive arm of Federal government that will pay u ur entitlement. You failed ur people including gatemen, cleaners, and mortuary staff, who u promised to make equal with doctors.

It is only a bitter paralegal secretary that will enter the Judiciary and then be clamoring to be paid the same thing as a lawyer or a judge.

Before you people applied for your jobs in government hospitals, you people saw the salary scales and saw the relativity in the salaries and yet you applied. If you didn't like the salaries and the relativity between doctors and you guys, why did you apply to work in the hospital in the first place?

Did anybody force you to apply for the job or accept the job after your application was successful?

I'm sure nobody forced you.

Yet you now entered and now want to upturn the salary scales and destroy the relativity that is in force.

It's a pity.

Is it only the health sector that is in a mess, in Nigeria? Can you mention one sector in Nigeria that is efficient, just one?
Nigeria's problem is systemic and it flows down to health, education, transport, agriculture, technology, power etc.

A VOICE OF A HUNDRED MEDICAL DOCTORS
I was congratulated on gaining admission but I was told becoming a medical doctor will not be guaranteed until I was handed my certificate and license to practice.
I watched my mates being weeded out in 100L. They didn't make a cGPA of 3.5 and above.
I crossed to 200L. I was having lectures from morning to evening non-stop. I was taking at least 3 courses that were independent degrees in their own rights anatomy, physiology, biochemistry. I was buying textbooks that were so heavy they gave me persistent backache. U saw me, u felt pity for me and said I was trying. I was just starting and it was easy then in retrospect. I watched mates dropped between 200L and 300L.
300L, I saw scores I never believed I could get. 11%, 19%. Ha! What's happening to me? I watched as people lost hope, lost confidence, became emotionally damaged. I watched as mental instability started to set in. I watched, as people voluntarily stepped down. My parents had spent too much already, I must continue. Again the resits, the repeats, the withdrawal. Wings have been clipped, boys humbled.
400L at last. Clinical classes, time to finally meet patients. A new set of courses, all degree courses again in their own rights: pathology, medical microbiology, hematology, chemical pathology, medicine, surgery. Only me, in 14 months. First ward round, all my knowledge rubbished. I was reminded I may not graduate as a doctor, I remember brilliant mates that have been dropped. I swallowed hard. First pathology exam. I was given papers heavier than my exercise book as answer sheets. Four exams one sitting, answer it in whatever order u want, u are on ur own. Endless exams, leg numbing ward rounds, never ending clinics. Final exams for the level, usual resits, repeats, withdrawals and even a suicide.
Finally crossed to 500L pediatrics, obs and gynae. Medicine continues, surgery continues. Same drills, same regimentations, same tough exams, same weeding. Same for 600L.
Finally after 6-10 years, I was told I had passed. First deep sigh of relief in a decade. Certificate given, provisional license given. I held back tears of mixed feelings as I collected them in a posh ceremony. It was still the beginning.
Housemanship, 'houseboyship'. No nonsense consultants. "How did you graduate?!" "Are u sure we trained U?!" "I've never seen this killer before!" I did everything. Spent days on end in the hospital without sleeping on my bed. No commendations, just vituperations which sometimes included my parents and family members from consultants, registrars, nurses, pharmacists, lab scientists. I was told I had to swallow all. NICU, ambu-bagged a neonate from 8pm till I fell asleep by 4am only to be awakened by the mother to discover the baby was dead. I was scared, but she laid my fears to rest by thanking me profusely and praying for me for not given up. Consultant came in the morning, "why did this baby die? You'll do extra call for one week without going home." Hmmm. Gynae posting, did a beautiful clerking of ectopic pregnancy, another emergency brought in, forgot about the ectopic until the morning. Prof came in the morning, "U'll do 9 extra months of Housemanship without pay."
Anyway, Housemanship ended. It was still just the beginning. Wrote primaries 5 times before passing, waited for 2 years before getting placement for residency. Wrote part-1 3 times. For part 2, my consultant said I was not ready to pass. After 2 attempts, I was made a fellow. Is it over now? Not at all. I watched as colleagues buried their fellowship only to go and work as senior houseofficers abroad.
This is an interpolation of stories of different medical doctors that I know, mine inclusive. I am not proud, I was drilled and forced to stand straight with my head held high because of what I overcame by the help of God.

Saraki isn't practising as a doctor. Am sure he hasn't given injection or taken surgery since he switched to politics yet you tag him doctor. Smh

What kind of judgement did the judge give? NMA went on strike I didn't hear of any court judgement, how come the court gave judgement on Johesu? What kind of precedence are they setting?

JOHESU is the main pillar that hold health sector, without them doctors are useless. I now understand why Adewole Issac is threatening them, all our hospitals are under locked and the patients are been moved to their private hospitals where they will charge them heavily.

To a large extend they are since it is a combination of different professionals. Let's tell ourselves the truth, the two union need each other. One can't do without the other one. Don't let those medical students or doctors deceive you by saying they can do without them. The people who designed it were not foolish. A doctor can't handle all the task alone . Even if he make use of other doctors, they are limited to that hospital has there are many government hospitals and clinics has inadequate doctors. The ratio of doctors to patients is poor. Johesu can't do without the doctors because they are the engine room of the hospital. Without them there wouldn't be energy to power the hospital. Even when doctors are absent, the capacity of Johesu are limited.

If all the patients are being transferred to private hospitals, that means doctors are reaping the benefits of the strike.
Adewole Isaac is a medical doctor and from your silly analysis, that means he is also benefitting from the strike.
If he is benefitting from the strike, why then will he threaten JOHESU to call off the strike?

The court just asked them to resume and go back to work while they continue negotiation with government, they refused so govt went back to court to prosecute them for contempt of court which would have resulted in the leadership being jailed for contempt

It was not the government that sued JOHESU to court.
It was an independent organization that sued them to court and asked the court to tell them to go back to work.
