my neighbour just returned from visiting her eldest daughter in boarding school and it made me remember and reminisce about when I was also in boarding school so here's my experience; I started boarding school in ss1 so I didn't cry when I was being dropped off but I remember feeling alone and small. I tried to ward off stares from other students and act like I actually belonged but before long I realised that I was still a learner when it came to some things so I found succor in being rude and believe me my rudeness got me into uglier situations than out of it. Made friends and my fair share of enemies but guess what? I survived boarding school in Nigeria!

pls share your experiences in boarding schools, what you learned and what you enjoyed most.

It was in the dorm I learnt to cook most food with boiling ring. I also learnt to sleep naked. It was in the dorm I learnt to walk around the house naked *covers my face. I also learnt to weave hair in the dorm. I also learnt to manage money. If you like, chop all your money, you will be worse off. Above all, it was in the dorm I learnt so much about human nature. Now I remember it, It was fun, then, it was madness!

Boarding school was fun. Back then, amongst our neigbours, it was like the best thing to send your kids off to a boarding school.
So, when I was 9, I took the federal govt college (unity) common entrance. We were three from my hood. We all passed but Jumai was thrown to FGGC Abuloma, Ronke was flung to FGGC Owerri and mini me was thrown to FGGC Gusau. We were all crying because it was so far away from home.

Our parents understood and tried to "work" it back to closer states but me and Ronke weren't that lucky and that's how we both ended up in another unity school and we had mad fun

lol. In the dorm I learnt how to cope and live independently. learnt how to save by fire by force. also learnt how to cut grass cos I always got into trouble either for wrong uniform or wrong colour of sandals. lol. learnt how to fight and stand up for myself. mhen. ..when I look back now, i learnt a lot.

I survived NNSS Borokiri till they kicked my ass out, boarding house was a major life transformation process for me because i went from "ajebutter" to "Thug life" overnight. I remember entering Jss1 with a very heavy box and coming back home for holidays with an almost empty box, they stole almost everything i had because i was a careless amateur ajebutter, they continued to steal all my stuff until i got to Jss2 and became a 'cartel member'. My school father was one of the 'baddest' seniors and he made me a 'young thug', by the time i was in Jss3 i had become so notorious that even the seniors consulted me for 'jobs', i was the 'go to guy' for contrabands, smuggling in of suya, fried yam and just about anything you needed from the barracks or outside school walls. I finally got kicked out for masterminding one of the biggest heists ever, i miss those days though, bitter sweet memories, you had to be sharp to survive and never display weakness or you will be taken advantage of, back then we feared and respected our senoirs so much that they were like 'mini gods'

I went through hell in boarding school.

My school being a missionary school, it wasn't easy for us at all. Especially the Junior one's.

If I begin to tell the story, it'd be published as a novel cuz it was all shitty the whole time.

If you survived the "second home" in Mayflower school Ikenne, Ogun State. The most rugged hostel you could be at in the school, then you would most likely survive the sambisa forest.

A big S/O to all exmays home and abroad. cool

The road is really rough as Baba Tai would say!!

Lol I only lasted a year as a boarder.
I was a stubborn 9year old in jss1 with lots of senior "enemies"
Thanks to my eventual school mother in ss3 I punished most of them.
School mother graduated,my enemies tripled so I saved myself the stress of returning for jss2
