Nonsense tweet. So Nike that paid good money to sponsor the super eagle's kits should now allow aba tailors sew the jerseys? What will be Nike's gain then? Aba tailors should go and sponsor the Super Eagle naa. Someone that didn't publish his own book in his country is now calling out a foreign brand for doing their business in their country. Thank you for beating me to this post.

The really sad thing is that this business man knows exactly what the deal is, but will rather play to an ignorant gallery.

Shortly after the long awaited jersey arrived, the senator made the tweet below:

Allow the oyinbo to infuse money the way they want. Taylor is not the only way to go. Even if Aba Taylor sew it and collect $100m it will not reach the target(Nigeria). Let them infuse it through the usual bursary system for it to go round. Abi is taylor also financial intelligence agent now?

It is bad that Ben does not understand economics.

He does not understand that the hype around the jersey was sponsored by Nike. The only raise the jersey is getting huge ratings is because of the advertisements and not the jersey it self.

And then Ben Bruce is misinformed as Nike have come out to say that the 3 million preorders is actually not true
I see you understand economics more than Ben Murray Bruce, every unknown Jack is an expert on nairaland

Did China become an economic powerhouse in the manner that you have described above?
Is this how we ensure that we don’t have a lot of our youths sitting around waiting for free oil money as our president said?

Dont mind that fake person of a senator. He likes to play to the gallery just for him to be noticed. Ask him how many times he has patronized those Aba tailors just for his own clothes and shoes, you will be surprised he does not even know the address of any of them. I wonder if the Aba tailors would have had the financial capacity to sponsor the team as Nike is doing. Bruce Common sense has long been common stupidity to me.

Chinese people were using their local low quality items instead of selling themselves cheap to oyinbo imports.

Abi? Ben Bruce is just playing to the gallery as usual. Will the Aba folks be serious enough to get the likes of Wizkid, Alex Iwobi and other big-name celebrities to endorse theirs? He is assuming that those jerseys are trending by mistake when in fact a whole lot of branding, planning and effort went into generating the hype that currently surrounds them. He's just a lazy senator that lacks common sense.

All these dummys castigating Ben Bruce seem to have comprehension problems.
It simply amazes me that all you guys all seem to think in one direction only.
I wonder why it appears so difficult to understand the very very important point that he is making or trying to get across.

The issue here is not about branding, but about the actual manufacture of the jerseys. After , Nike Does NOT manufacture anything. Nike contracts the manufacturer of all their products to sweatshops in Third World (shithole) countries in Guatemala, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc. A lot of Nike's products have been found to be made by child labor in slave like conditions in these countries.

The point the Ben Bruce is asking is that why shouldn't Nigerian labour, ABA manufacturing prowess to be specific, not have been considered for the manufacturer of Nigeria's official Jerseys, an enterprise that would have created jobs and $100m into our national coffers ?
Isn't such that one of the functions of a government ? To woo and encourage foreign investments , especially in an area in which we have local talent has been proven to be abundant ?
Are ABA manufacturing prowess not ripe or good enough for international manufacturing contracts from the likes of Nike and other sports wear brands ?

Isn't this where a responsible government that wants to create jobs come in and play a role ?

Ben Bruce is not criticizing Nike's branding or marketing rights. He is criticizing all of us, all Nigerians , our small mentality, our inability to think beyond the periphery.

The jerseys were still sewn by sweat shop tailors in Vietnam ...I think y'all are getting the senator all wrong, he is saying Nike should have used local Nigerian tailors to fulfil some the production quota of the jerseys ... Even though it's wishful at this stage it's not bad to explore such in the future because Nigeria's 180 million population is greatly being underutilized

Tell that to the Aba firms who have refused to grow enough to compete with the likes of China, Bangladesh, India, and the likes up till today. These same set of Aba folks were trying to blackmail their own state governor when he tried to motivate them to better organize, upgrade and increase their capacity by bringing in Chinese investors who were willing to invest as much as a billion dollars in the state's shoe industry.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/aba-shoe-makers-jittery-chinese-shoe-magnets-investment-aba/

They simply lack the competitive edge because after all these years they have still refused to upgrade. Heck, they even still have to go to the same China that Nike patronizes in order to scale and meet really big orders.

Aba firms should consolidate and grow their capacity in order to attract the likes of Nike. #Fact.

Comprehension comprehension!
Gosh!! shocked
This dummy is still talking about sponsorship. shocked

Ben Bruce was referring to the actual contract manufacture of the Jerseys.
Reminding all we dummys in Nigeria, especially those in government, that ABA sweatshops ( who have proven their prowess) have the capacity to have contract-manufactured those Jerseys, an enterprise that would have created thousands of jobs and earned the country $100m .
Duuhh!!
