Appliedmaths: Stop given wrong advise and people clicking like for you. Who told you that if 91 days NTB is 10%, and he decides to purchase with #9m he will earn #900k quarterly? My friend, you got it wrong. It will be #900,000/4 = #225,000 quarterly. Mind you, TB isn't investment. It is an avenue to keep idle money afloat with inflationary pressure rather than keeping it in savings account, which will amount to losing value. 6 Likes 1 Share |

@ OP, Actually, it all boils down to what you really want. 1.) Pray for divine direction. First step. 2.) Access your SWOT (Strength Weakness Opportunity Threat) 3.) Based on the 3., if your are entrepreneurially inclined, I suggest you stay back in Nigeria and do business. I tell you. Contrary to what most opinions here may suggest, it is actually BETTER FOR ONE TO DO BUSINESS IN NIGERIA. Contradictory enough, it's is foreigners : European, Americans, Asians and Arabs that tend to sniff the vast untapped business opportunities in Nigeria and consequently tapping into it. SAD SAD SAD!!!!!!?. If not, you are free to travel and LOOK FOR JOB abroad. 4.) In event of making up mind on business option; don't go for water production business yet. It might overwhelm you. Look for less competitive business and run. 5.) Subsequent to above, I will rather suggest that you look for business opportunities in SERVICE INDUSTRY and not MANUFACTURING for now. As an educated & exposed person, look for blue or black collar business such as Car repair & service business to undertake. You will have to rent a space or abandoned filling station and set up a fully equipped workshop with all the repair tools, diagnostic scanners/laptop, welding machine, car spraying machine, a little inventory of modern engine oils & filters for car servicing. Start up and the company (structured business with Account/Inventory Dept, Repair unit with You in admin/management Department. Consult a Chartered Accountant/Management Consultant to draw up the operational, reporting, accounting, auditing/inspection structure and what staff to employ. Don't attempt to run a serious business with just your intuition and emotions. You will have issues on staff, funds, equipment and operational angles. Make it really formal. Use consultant to hire staff!! Pay and get the best. You know how bank use to recruit, do same in your business. Then you are set to explode. Make the pace well arranged. Clients will be in waiting room watching TV and read newspaper while their cars are being fixed at the workshop. Take a cue from impressive banking environment. - Interview and employ good mechanics, and all revenue will be paid to Account unit in order to avoid pilferage of funds. Acquire POS Machines, etc. - Acquire basic tools such as spanners, Jack, Lift, computerised tyre balancing machine, tyre pump. Have the major units: Mechanic, Electrical, Tyre repair, Panel beating and Spraying section with functional equipment. I tell you, mechanic business has now grown beyond what should be operating as road side business for school dropouts, rather, serious minded individuals should venture in and organise it in a way to meet up modern global standards. All these new model cars don't really have competently equipped workshops to patronise, even when they have the money to spend, just no where to go. If interested, search Google, make enquiries and venture in. It is easy to learn business in the service industry than manufacturing. All you need to do is to monitor the operations in line with your objectives. Workers can be placed on either salary or with commission & bonus to motivate. Ensure you have a repair equipment that is not common so as to attract referrals from other workshops and really boost patronage & revenues. That's the ultimate secret here. **** God bless you 12 Likes |

There are lots of profitable business to start here in Nigeria. Firstly get a registered business name. 1.) In Nigeria today people eats rice on a daily basis... Venturing into Rice supply direct from the manufacturer to the retailers is a good business in Nigeria. Wholesale price of Rice is around 12k per bag while the logistics cost may take 2k per bag, cost and operating expenses may take 14k as the case may be...while you supply at the rate of N16,500 or 17k. You will have almost N2,500 return on investment. That's a profitable one. You can still be on your job and be growing your business. 2.) Another business that is profitable now is catering business. Fast food business is a booming business in Nigeria now since you have up to 5m. 3.) Running a standard bar and event center is another booming business in Nigeria....5m is more than enough to start this business. The return on investment is always high based on the standard you for your business. 4.) What about opening a standard human hair and cosmetic shop for ladies...since you have up to 5m. I won't advice you to travel abroad and stay while there are lots of opportunities in Nigeria if you have your capital. Grow your business in Nigeria, monitor your business, have a standard financial reporting template and strong internal control that allows you to see through your business both on your absent. 1 Like |

Kudos to you having saved up that 'huge amount of money! For a job to have given you that amount of savings, I will advice you not to quit so fast. Work for the next 3 years, be absolutely sure of your future and delve into your dreams. while still working, divide the money into 3 and use it accordingly: 1. First 3 million: Let your money work for u. invest it in treasury bills and the likes and watch your money grow. 2. Second 3 million: Invest it physically in side business ranging from agricultural produce to transportation and even 'buying & selling'. This is to test your business acumen while still collecting your paycheck each month. 3. Third 3 million: This is your fallback money in case every other thing goes wrong. Do not touch a dime from this, fix it in a reputable financial institution for 3 years. It is not being pessimistic but being wise in not putting all your eggs in one basket. After 3 years your future becomes more clearer and capital at least doubled with less hassle. My 2 cents though!!! God bless your hustle 3 Likes |

First, I have to commend you for being financially prudent unlike many bankers and wage earners who often run a rat race. Your interest in opting for another MSc in Canada or starting a pure water business here in Nigeria isn't bad. However, they have to be weighed on their merits and disadvantages. To the best of my knowledge, #9m might be exhausted to acquire one year academic MSc at Canada given the tuition fee, accommodation, living expenses and other sundry charges. And once the student visa elapsed, you might be unlucky to be deported back to this shithole called Nigeria. But if you are lucky, the sky can be your starting point out there at Canada. Starting a pure water business with #9m sincerely is a huge investment. However, the money might not adequately fund operations of the business in some cities given that you will be required to purchase at least a plot of land. If I might suggest to you, I will implore you to go into agriculture. The reason is not far-fetched. Demand for agricultural products will continue to exceed supply in a fast growing economy like ours. That's why there's increased importation of beef, fish, eggs, pork, etc. In the light of the above, venturing into fish farming could be quite profitable with over 100% ROI. You can't exhaust 50% of your savings even after acquiring a plot of land and investing on 10,000 fingerlings with ten fish ponds. In addition, the risk is reduced given low level of mortality and readily available market. Cheers. |

Apply for Canada express entry. Start the process. At the same time you can a start a small business on the side here while awaiting PR. I wouldnt advise going into pure water business until you've understudied someone in that industry. Start a business that has to do with buying and selling. Find a product with a decent profit margin and go strictly ecommerce. Read Lean Start up by Eric Ries. Check my signature to place order. |

The way some peeps analyse some business ehnnn, as if them go business school, bros abeg jejely and leroly enter the travel section of this forum and search for canada express entry thread, click on the link and get informations you need, please don't mind those saying wait and grow your business or wait and develop your nation, abeg no mind them, some of them are not based in Nigeria, Please leave this country, you are not wiser n more patriotic than Nigerian politician who have secured dual citizenship or who have their kids in western countries. Morever one more advice, if possible learn french before you leave for Canada, it will do you good. "The world is a book, those who do not travel, only read one page" |

The first question you need to ask yourself is do you want to be a career person or entrepreneur. If your passion is to be a career person then go to CANADA and if otherwise. Seat back and discover your passion then look for a successful mentor that will tutor you. But my question is this for you - For how long will you keep working for people? At a particular age you will be asked to retire. What are you going to feed with. Wealth is not measure by education qualifications you have but number of multiple stream of income. If you have multiple streams of income in this country bro Canada will just be vacation site. Read RICH DAD POOR DAD and come back to thank me later |

Pls bro.... You've tried to save such a money, I'll advice you to go into FMCG ( fast moving consumer goods) like grain business selling of rice, beans, melon + egusi, coca oat yam vegetable oil, corn, etc,or better still you'll go into chemist or pharmaceutical business, I bet they are more lucrative than any other thing.. They pay more than yahoo self...( just kidding) I can't advice you to enter into any manufacturing biz cos of the unfavorable governmental policies like multiple taxations, Secondly, don't ever dream of going to Canada, the visa cost, flight fee, standard of living, education cost, acquiring work permit.... Find any biz that relate to food ..... Better go into stock fish wholesale,.... Don't go into logistics ( cars ) All constructive criticism are all welcomed |

Both are good, it all depends on your mindset, you start a pure water company in Nigeria you may make it, you can travel out to Canada and may also make it. sit down and research properly, the answer is in you, nobody can advice you on this, many advice will confuse you. making it big in Canada as a student will depend on what you studied in your first degree that will determine your integration into their system. For me, if I have that kinda cash I ll migrate but may not be Canada. I know at first their are many challenges but at the end I must come out victorious by His grace. Nothing I mean Nothing is like a working system. I love it simple. |
