You must go to New York and Los Angeles.
In NY,do the city tour in times square at night
In LA do a tour of Hollywood then take the kids to universal studios and do a behind the scenes tour.

If you want to do a smaller city try Charleston South Carolina.They have beautiful beaches.
Myrtle beach South Carolina is another good location to visit for smaller city.
Washington DC is also good you can't come to America without seeing Trump. Easy to navigate by rail

If you come my end and you are up for us to meet I wouldn't mind.

If you want to visit a place with an amusement park,zoo,aquarium and the famous CNN center and coke museum, go to Atlanta.
In Texas ,San Antonio is a fun location with the Riverwalk.
These are all places I enjoyed visiting.
