Dont take chances, tell them to correct it before your interview. You have to be consistent with what you filked and what is on your i20.
OK thanks

I remember your username. I just want to point something out to you. If you think repplying for a visa with a "ranked" school will guarantee your visa, I'm afraid you need a really good reality check. You will still have to work for your visa.

If you're asked why you changed to XYZ university in Oregon and all you can say is "it is a ranked school", it's just another futile effort. What's my point? If you're trying to get into other schools, this is the time to start asking yourself what you want, why you really want them and do your research and continue learning how to prepare for interviews.

Moving on, cost of living depends on so many factors. Like in any state, not all cities are the same so, where your school is/you'd live could be factors too. Oregon is a relatively expensive state to live in but remember: sometimes, the cheapest things in life aren't the cheapest. Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma are cheap states but there are so many places in these states you wouldn't wanna live in as a foreigner.

Don't rush any decision, wait for the next session and spend time preparing. Make better decisions and be self critical. Don't let your future be decided by a random, faceless person in another place like me and others here lol because in the end, you'll be the one to live with your decisions.

Always go for what's best for YOU, not what someone thinks would be best for them. I wish you the best.
seeing your comments and advice on ppls post always have a way of boosting my spirit God bless u ma!!

Im guessing Portland Oregon. It has a huge variation in affordability which depends on which part you choose to live in........

Lents, Brentwood-Darlington is going to be most affordable. If you're looking for something closer then Kenton, Creston-Kenilworth, and Woodstock can be cheaper options.

Oregon is Relatively affordable when Compared to San Francisco, CA

Lewis & Clark isn't ? A better Choice for an Environmental law program grin

nwendujudy:
Hello everyone.

I want to know, how adviseable is it to be denied visa with an unranked school's I20 and refiring almost immediately with a ranked school? Should I just reapply or wait till the next session? How affordable is living at Oregon for an average student because the school am looking at now is located there?. I need opinions and practical experience if possible. Thanks all

I wouldn’t want to mislead you but if previously refused option comes out and dates are available then you’re good to go

You joking right? grin

I'm not. I don't remember many things about steps when applying for the visa. SEVIS fees, ds160, etc. lol, it's the reason I hardly ever talk about them.

Please is 2.03 GPA qualified to apply for Masters!

2.03/5, no for public and highly ranked schools.

Yes for unranked private schools.

2.03/4., with a good gre score of 300+, you can get conditional admission in tier 3 schools

I have only used Greyhound from Philadephia to New York once. I don't know how far the bus station is to JFK as I was there at night. What I know is the subway is in the same place with the station. Since you didn't tell us where your final destination is, may be others can help you.

Too lazy to type so taken from an old post ... prices might have changed .
Time can be hard to predict but leave at least 1h30mins

Step 1: take the Airtrain from jfk terminal to Jamaica Station. Please listen for the anouncement "Station D: Jamaica Station."

Step 2: at Jamaica Station, purchase a $7 MetroCard from the MetroCard Vending Machine, and exit the Airtrain system into Jamaica Station. Five dollars will be deducted from the MetroCard, when exiting the Airtrain system. The remaining $2 will use for the subway.

Step 3: follow the direction signs to the New sub way. Upon entering the subway, take the Manhattan-bound (westbound) "E" express train (Blue Line on the map) from Sutphin Blvd-JFK/Jamaica Station to 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Step 4: at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, exit the subway into the bus terminal. The greyhound ticket counter, is right next door to the subway entrance.

thanks, the Masters degree am looking into doesn't require GRE but either Tofel or ielts.
Truthfully, Your GPA is way way Low, and forget all the crap admissions committees say about holistic applications, they're most likely going to toss your application aside, as they have grant proposals to write, and depressed PhD students to supervise grin grin; since there would most likely be tons of 3.8+GPA and 320+GRE folks on the line. Next line of action would be to find tier C schools (avoid for profit institutions biko) with higher admissions rate and decent profiles, where you know you stand a better chance of getting admitted, and try them out.

Vo: make sure you have you i-20 at all times when entering the US you should also carry their birth cert as they might need it at border . Enjoy your stay in the US
Me: Thank you

I did GRE but no question came on this. Statement was not checked.

Congrats. You had an excellent interview. Enjoy your studies and stay in PA. wink if she had continued asking more questions until next year, you would have provided the same excellent answers wink That was a good read, I hope we'd get more transcripts like this from future applicants.

Errmmm what state is your school located? I’ll advise you to take a Southwest airline flight...they don’t charge for luggage (2 boxes and all) plus flight is quicker and if you compare you’ll see bus and flight is the same price although flight might be cheaper sef plus southwest is really cheap too

If you are thinking of M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering, don't apply to TENNESSEE TECHNOLOGICAL l UNIVERSITY with the hope of funding. There are no funding plans in place for Mechanical Engineering. Speaking from experience, hope it helps.
