Super Eagles stats: Russia 2018

-At age 19, Big Francis Uzoho is set to become the youngest member of the Nigerian team that will feature in this edition of the FIFA World cup in Russia.

- Vincent Enyeama is set to be usurped by Uzoho as Nigeria's youngest ever goalie to play at a World cup tournament. Enyeama was 19 years 9 months and 14 days when he made his WC debut against England at Korea/Japan 2002 but by June 16, 2018, Uzoho would be 19 years 7 months and 19 days if he starts against Croatia.

- Francis Uzoho, who also became the youngest ever foreign goalie in LA liga at age 18 years, 11 months and 17 days would also become the youngest goalie at the tournament having 32 teams. This beats Enyeama's back in 2002 when he featured as the 2002 WC's youngest goalie ahead of Spain's Iker Casillas (21 years 13 days) and Fabian Carini of Uruguay (22 years 5 months and 6 days).
Enyeama was not even the youngest we took to that World cup. It was Austin Ejide who was 18 years then. Only thing was that Ejide never got to play but Enyeama did feature.

Liverpool interested in signing £10m rated Moses Simon from Gent
By Neil Jones, Liverpool Correspondent

The Nigerian international winger has been watched by Reds scouts as they look to bolster attacking options

Liverpool are considering a move for £10 million-rated ($13m) Gent winger Moses Simon.
The Nigerian international has been watched closely by Reds scouts as they seek to bolster their attacking options this summer.

Goal understands that the 22-year-old, who is about to enter the final year of his contract with the Belgian club, is one of a number of targets under consideration as Jurgen Klopp seeks a pacy, multi-functional forward player.

Simon has played predominantly as a left-winger for Gent this season, but has been known to operate on the right as well.
He scored six goals in the Jupiler League this season, but was left out of Nigeria's World Cup squad due to a hip injury. He is expected to be back fit before the end of June however.

Liverpool are eager to strengthen their squad in attacking areas, with cover for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in wide areas a must. Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino managed a remarkable 91 goals between them last season, but Klopp is keen to ensure competition and cover, which will enable him to rest, rotate and preserve his star men.

The mangaer also has decisions to make over three young wingers who spent all or part of last season on loan. Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent endured mixed fortunes in the Championship - and in Kent's case over in Germany - but all are expected back at the club this summer.

Rangers and Leeds, in particular, are keen on signing Kent on loan, though Liverpool will continue to insist on a deal in which clubs are punished financially if a loan player does not start a certain amount of games - Bristol City were made to pay £500,000 after signing the 21-year-old in January, after he made just six starts.

Rangers, managed of course by former Red Steven Gerrard, are also keen to sign midfielder Ovie Ejaria on loan, and have expressed interest in striker Dominic Solanke, though that deal looks some way off. There is interest from a host of clubs in Ojo, but Wilson, who impressed at Hull City in the second half of the season, will get the chance to prove himself in pre-season, with the Welshman expected to be part of the first-team squad for the three-game tour of the USA in July.

Liverpool have already been busy this summer, adding £40m midfielder Fabinho from Monaco.
Naby Keita will join from RB Leipzig on July 1 , while the Reds remain keen to secure a deal for Lyon's Nabil Fekir, though progress on that front has been slow with the Ligue 1 club proving difficult negotiators.

John Ogu is a shooter. And Ndidi can also shoot from afar on a good day. Having both as our double pivot can be an asset, considering they are naturally left-footed and right-footed, respectively. Mikel as AM and Iwobi as a false 9. That's another good thing to think about.

Exactly what I am saying.... Why keep midfielders who can add offensive bite to your team on the bench meanwhile playing those who add nothing both offensively or defensively hiding under the pretext of experience and big league when in actual ability both are yet to deliver after several matches.?

Ogu and Ndidi should be given more playing time pairing Mikel... Enough is enough

I wonder why no one posted this while I was away. A fine exposé on Taiwo Awoniyi's next steps and Liverpool's plans for him

Liverpool's masterplan to get Taiwo Awoniyi into top-level football in England
By Tolu Olasoji, Deputy Editor Nigeria

The Nigerian striker finished the season as the club's most potent forward, just behind the Fab three, and the Reds have a plan for him

With Liverpool keen to remain at the top, only players that can sustain their drive are needed and Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi would have to reach that level if he's ever going to turn out in the Reds' colour.
In a low-key manner, the Anfield giants added Fabinho - after years of starring for Monaco on the domestic and continental scene - to their ranks, few days after their demoralising loss to Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League final.
The highly-rated defensive midfielder cum right-back joins a setup that had already been bolstered by Naby Keita's addition, after the Guinea international agreed to a deal in last summer from RB Leipzig.

A deal in the region of £60 million is in the works to lure Lyon captain Nabil Fekir to England, and Loris Karius' blunders in Kiev on Saturday evening has left the club no choice than to look for a top-end goalie - AS Roma's Alisson , amongst others, is being eyed.

This, however, signals the intention of Liverpool to want to continue in the higher echelons of English, and European football after the unprecedented success - headlined by another marquee signing in Mohamed Salah - achieved in the just-concluded campaign.

This plan has, however, informed how the club are expected to manage Awoniyi - whom they still consider a player with a future in their ranks - to the level required.
The 2013 U17 World Cup star was signed by the Reds from Imperial Soccer Academy in 2015. Unable to secure a work permit, he was shipped on loan to German second division outfit, FSV Frankfurt and then NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
The spells ended in disappointments as both teams suffered relegations, however, there has been renewed hopes after his progress at Royal Excel Mouscron last season.
The Nigeria U23 international joined the Belgian outfit in a season-long loan deal - his third spell away from Anfield, and flourished.

The 20-year-old scored 10 times - including two goals to help Mouscron qualify for Europa League play-off spot - and laid on seven others in 31 games across all competitions, amid several inspiring, literally imposing displays such as that of a seven-goal thriller where his side narrowly lost 4-3 to Standard Liege.

The feat saw him end as Liverpool’s highest goalscorer after Jurgen Klopp’s trusted trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Salah.

However, despite the intention to add more firepower to complement, and ease, the over-reliance on the Fab three, the German tactician is not looking within his ranks.
Injury-ravaged Daniel Sturridge is expected to be ushered out, Dominic Solanke might have to spend a season on loan, with Rangers interested. But Liverpool will be unlikely to let Solanke go until August at the earliest which is in contrast to Steven Gerrard’s plan of having players in early.

However, a move away from Merseyside looks likeliest for the Anglo-Nigerian, while returning [from Wolfsburg] Divock Origi might well be given another chance to prove his worth.
Awoniyi seems to be far off, but the Reds have laid a plan to bring him up to the required level at Anfield, Goal understands.
On his current contract, the striker has two years left and will sign a new improved deal before being sent on another loan spell.
The Reds want the Nigerian striker to have a taste of playing at the high level regularly - and in Europe - so another loan deal, this time, to the biggest club in Belgium, Anderlecht might suffice; as this would also help his quest for a UK work permit.
After finishing third this season, the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium outfit will play in the 2018-19 Europa League but still remain favourites to reclaim the league diadem next season, after success in 2016-17.
Goal also understands that despite having a not-so-immediate plan for the youngster, Liverpool have successfully obtained a US visa for the player, meaning he can, if selected, join the team's pre-season tour of America.

So, the plan is to prepare the player for a Liverpool gearing to return to European elites circle, get him a work permit, and also get him up to speed with what playing in a Red shirt, under Jurgen Klopp, feels like.

Additional reporting from Goal's Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones.

The look on VicMo's face is kinda of envy that it wasn't him seeing the net. If he doesn't play more with a teammate when attacking, I'd have no choice than to remember him as just a selfish fellow even if he is 50million pounds now. Iwobi's contributions is slowly eclipsing his importance to the team winning.

I was about to say this about V. Moses!

Comprehensive analysis part 1

...................

After watching our England friendly again yesterday, here is my comprehensive reports of the match and players assessment

First of the block is our 4-3-3 formation which Rohr played in the first half. It wasn't a flat 4-3-3 rather it was a 4-2-1-3 where Onazi and Joel Obi were meant to shield the defence immediately while Mikel was to sit back behind our 3 attackers.

Ordinarily this setup should work if each man played his part well but unfortunately Onazi and Joel obi didn't and the whole team ended up paying for it.

Onazi in particular was terribly piss-poor in that match that it seems it was a deliberate attempt to by him to disorganize our play. Damn, Onazi couldn't stay in his position, he couldn't mark, he couldn't pass, he couldn't hold on to the ball, he was everywhere but no where in particular. Several times he was caught out of position, and when we struggle to win back the ball and pass to him, Onazi will gladly gift the ball back to the English. The only time he made a successful pass was when he hurriedly returned a pass back to Joel Obi who initially passed to him because he was under pressure with 3 markers on him, but what did Onazi do?.. He passed back to Joel who was already choked shocked obviously the ball was stolen. Onazi kept on leaving gaps after gaps for the English to exploit, he would rather do another person's job than do his. Several times Idowu and Joel will have their man marked only for Onazi to run in from nowhere claiming he wants to mark too. Mikel will go forward to press, and you will see Onazi chasing him angryNow we won't be talking about this issue if he was winning these balls, no! Because while he is running, Before he gets to assist his colleagues and inorder to double team the opponent,.. Fiam!... The opponent has passed the ball straight to the same spot where Onazi is coming from, leaving behind acres of space and time for a damage to be done. Again and again this repeated sloppy play was what Onazi kept on doing. It was terrible and an eyesore to watch. I wonder how he is going to remedy such shambolic display. He should be forced to remain in front of the two center backs please. As for Joel Obi, that one was another error going forward. They were several times he sent balls forward which didn't connect with our Frontline. He always kick the ball so waywardly without end product. In middle and defense, it was a battle between him and Onazi on who will get more in each other's way. He was busy playing what we call "anywhere belle face" football. Both on the ball and off the ball. He had no business clashing with Balogun because he should have seen that the ball was Balogun's to clear from miles away, he actually made us a laughing stock with that head clash

If Onazi or idowu or Moses had the ball, instead of opening for a pass, he will rather bump into them. Likewise Onazi, instead of opening for a pass, he will go and bump or intercept the player with the ball. Honestly, Rohr should have dropped one of the two.

Henceforth, i will suggest that if Rohr will play a 4-3-3 then it should be a flat one and should not be a 4-2-1-3 triangle anymore because with the triangle, plenty spaces will be left behind our CM and DM.

Let it be a trio of Onazi - - Mikel - - Joel instead of

Onazi - - - - - Joel
\ /
Mikel

The flat 3 man middle will be better than a triangle 3 man middle.

But honestly, 3-5-2 formation should be our main formation going into this world Cup. We succeeded in qualifiers against African oppositions using 4-3-3 but it seems 4-3-3 isn't working anymore against the rest of the world.

Football is dynamic, if we are well suited with 3-5-2 against world oppositions then by all means that is what we should be perfecting now.

Most matches are won from the midfield, whoever controls the middle dictates how the match will go, and whoever dictates how the match will go will most likely (around 80% of the time) determines who wins the game.

Let Rohr stop the experiments and focus on our midfield play and 3-5-2 formation perfection because as it is we don't have any problems with our Goalkeeping, Defense and attack. Our problem now is the our midfield... I repeat!.. We have a big problem in that midfield of ours.

Presently the midfield doesn't link up and provide supply for our strikers, the midfield doesn't provide cover for our defenders.. The midfield is presently not doing its job and Rohr is supposed to focus there. The middle is responsible for our uncoordinated play for so many matches now. Onazi and Joel should be made to sit on the bench with their seat belt fastened!!

Let Ogu, Etebo, and Ndidi pair mikel there henceforth.. Enough is Enough angry This experimentation with Joel Obi or Onazi must stop, it has to stop!!

I don laugh tire at the bolded. While reading it Oliver Goldsmiths 'She Stoops to Conquer' kept coming to my mind. I was just laughing at your graphic description of the comedy of errors you depicted Onazi and Joel Obi acting. Thumbs up man.

kai who is the bigger liar, calling others liars. eh forgiveness

I present to you the last 8 matches Bursaspor was involved in, in that order, and let's see what the progressive change of formations mean as regards Shehu and Agu

Post 1:

Where did Shehu benched Agu in the last 8 matches?

When was the first match Shehu played for the team in Turkey? January 27th, 2018

Did he bench Agu who just came back from serious injury? No. Agu still played on that day.

Did he bench him in the second match? No because Agu was suspended due to yellow card.

Did he bench him in the third match? I don't think so. Though Shehu started and Agu rested. It's called rotation because in the next match Agu played but Agu started from the bench.

So, did Shehu bench Agu in the fourth match? No. Shehu came on as a RM.

Did Shehu bench Agu in the fifth match? No Agu still started the match while Shehu played the RM position.

Agu still went ahead to start 5 matches save one. In which in three of those matches he paired Shehu but played the RM in one the match and missed one match due to suspension.

Where did he bench him?

Even in those 4 matches you claimed he benched Agu, Shehu played another role in a match.

So, who played in Agu role when Shehu played another role?

Definitely, Shehu never benched and confined Agu to the bench. Fact

Anything outside this, is a big fat lie.

WATCHING FROM HOME: 15 Stars Missing From World Cup Party

June 5, 2018 8:19 pm
Following the announcement of all 32 teams final 23-man squads for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JAMES AGBEREBI lists 15 top stars who will miss this year’s tournament…

MAURO ICARDI (Argentina)
Despite being Serie A top scorer with 29 goals for Inter Milan last season, Mauro Icardi was dropped from Argentina’s final 23-man squad for this year’s World Cup supposedly for personal reasons.
Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli named Icardi in his initial 35-man list but dropped the 25-year-old striker in the final squad with Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala and Boca Juniors ace Cristian Pavon preferred.
Icardi earned just his fourth cap for Argentina since making his debut in 2013 when he came off the bench in Albiceleste’s crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers which they won 3-1 and sealed qualifification thanks to Messi’s hat-trick.

MARIO GOTZE (Germany)
Four years ago at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Mario Gotze was the hero for Germany as his goal secured a 1-0 win and the World Cup title against Argentina.
The win saw Germany equal Italy as countries who have won the FIFA World Cup four times.
But when Germany’s provisional list for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia was announced, Gotze’s name was missing.
The 26-year-old omission did not really raise eye brows as he never really kicked on after his exploits in Brazil.
Last season, he made 32 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, scoring just two goals and seven assists.

LEROY SANE (Germany)
If there is one player whose omission for this year’s FIFA World Cup shocked not a few, that player is Germany’s Leroy Sane.
Sane, 22, was a sure bet by many to make Germany’s final 23-man squad to Russia but Germany coach Joachin Low had other ideas.
The young Manchester City forward was awarded the Premier League Young Player of the Year following a stellar season for Manchester City which saw them win the EPL title and the Carabao Cup.
He made 49 appearances, scored 14 goals and made 19 assists which were not enough to earn him a spot at this summer’s tournament.
Shedding more light on why Sane, who has won 12 caps but is yet to score for Germany, Low said: “We have good players on the wing in Thomas Muller and Marco Reus. Julian Draxler played a good Confed Cup, and made progress there. It was a tight race between Leroy Sane and Julian Brandt. Both have big qualities, both are good in the one-on-one duels.
“Julian Brandt was at the Confed Cup, had some strong games there, and put in good shifts in the training camp too. Leroy Sane is a huge talent, no doubt, and he will be back with the team in September.”
“Maybe he has not fully arrived in the national team games. Maybe that tipped the balance. He did a good job against Austria, tried to work in defence, went into the transition play. No blame here. And his behaviour off the pitch was good as well.”

CHRISTIAN BENTEKE (Belgium)
Following Roberto Martinez’s announcement of his final Belgian 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup, one noticeable name missing was Crystal Palace’s striker Christian Benteke.
It would be difficult to fault Martinez for dropping the 27-year-old as it has been a disappointing season for the former Liverpool man.
In 31 appearances in all competitions for Palace last season, Benteke only found the back of the net three times with six assists.
And commenting on Benteke’s omission from the squad heading to Russia, Martinez described it as his “toughest decision”.

DIVOCK ORIGI (Belgium)
One player who wouldn’t be missed by Belgium in Russia is Liverpool’s Divock Origi.
Evidence to the fact that Origi had a poor season was the fact that he did not even make Belgium’s 28-man provisional squad.
Origi came to limelight following his performance for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup where he scored his first senior international goal in the 88th minute of a 1–0 win over Russia to qualify the Red Devils for the knockout stage.
His goal against Russia saw him become the youngest player at 19 years, two months and four days, to score at the tournament (until American winger Julian Green scored against Belgium during their round of 16 match) and also the youngest goalscorer in Belgian World Cup history.
But following a poor spell at Liverpool, he was loaned out to Wolfsburg last season but never really did anything of note, scoring seven goals in 37 appearances, with three assists in all competitions.

RADJA NAINGGOLAN (Belgium)
Another Belgium player who would not be in Russia for the FIFA World Cup is Radja Nainggolan.
Unlike Benteke and Origi, Nainggolan’s axing from the Belgian squad came as a surprise to many judging by his performance for AS Roma last campaign.
Nainggolan did not even make the provisional list despite scoring six goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances in competitions for Roma in his midfield position.
He was on target twice when Roma defeated Liverpool 4-2 in their Champions League second-leg semi-final clash.

DAVID LUIZ (Brazil)
A member of the Brazilian side that got to the semi-final at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, David Luiz was not considered good enough for a spot this time around for the 2018 World Cup.
It has not been the best of seasons for Luiz as he has struggled for regular playing time no thanks to injuries.
He could only boast of 17 appearances in all competitions and two goals for the Blues last season.

NICKLAS BENDTNER (Denmark)
Ever present in the Danish national team since making his debut in 2006, Nicklas Bendtner however would not be in Russia due to injury.
With 30 goals in 79 international appearances for Denmark, it was a no brainer that Bendtner would lead the line at this year’s World Cup.
Unfortunately, the former Arsenal striker who was named in Denmark’s preliminary 35-man squad, and retained his place when the group was reduced to 27, had to bow out due to a groin injury sustained on club duty.

JACK WILSHERE (England)
Once touted as the next big thing to happen to English football, Jack Wilshere has failed to live up to expectations which should not surprise anybody why he did not make England’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Wilshere, who has had an injury-plagued career, managed 38 appearances last season for Arsenal which was not enough to be in Russia.
He was handed an international recall in March for the games against Holland and Italy, but was forced to withdraw 24 hours before the game in Amsterdam due to a minor knee injury.

Yet, his performances at the end of the season forced Southgate to consider him for a place on the plane to Russia before eventually dropping him.

JOE HART (England)
Apart from Jack Wilshere, another not too surprising exclusion from England’s World Cup squad was Joe Hart.
The former Manchester City undisputed number one, has been England’s first-choice goalkeeper for the last three major tournaments – Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2016, as well as the qualifiers for this summer’s event – but has only played in one of the past five games under Gareth Southgate.
Hart, 31, who has won 75 caps for England, has had a poor season, conceding 39 goals in 19 Premier League games for West Ham – on loan from Manchester City.

ANTHONY MARTIAL (France)
Anthony Martial’s exclusion from France’s final 23-man squad is one which attracted mixed reactions.

The 22-year-old was in and out of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United team and did not score or assist a goal since February.
The former AS Monaco man made 45 appearances in all competitions for United last season, scored 11 goals and nine assists.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE (France)
Another player who would feel hard done by not making the French squad is former Arsenal record signing Alexandre Lacazette.
Lacazette looked hungry as Arsenal chased Europa League glory at the end of the season.
But he scored just 14 Prem goals – failing to live up to the £55million price tag the Gunners paid to land him from Lyon last summer.

CESC FABREGAS (Spain)
A 2010 World Cup winner, Cesc Fabregas was not considered for selection this time around for Spain.
Fabregas did not enjoy the best of seasons under Antonio Conte last campaign despite managing to claim an FA Cup title with Chelsea.
He was hardly a regular for Chelsea and also put in some unconvincing performances which hampered his World Cup chances.
There are reports even linking the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder away from Chelsea come next season.

JUAN MATA (Spain)
Another World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, Juan Mata was not picked this time, no thanks to an uneventful season at Manchester United last season.
The former Chelsea star featured in 40 outings in all competitions for United last term scoring three goals and seven assists.
In the Emirates FA Cup final against Chelsea which United lost 1-0, Mata only saw three minutes of action as he was brought on in the 83rd minute.

ALVARO MORATA (Spain)
With expectations very high following his arrival, Alvaro Morata failed to spark in his first season at Chelsea which could have cost him a place at this summer’s World Cup.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker has struggled since his £60million move last season.

The 25-year-old managed only 11 league goals last season and after falling behind Olivier Giroud in the Stamford Bridge pecking order only appeared as a last-minute substitute in the 1-0 FA Cup final victory over Manchester United.

When was the new coach appointed? Mustafa Er was appointed interim manager on April 10 this year. So we have to start from there because when people said Shehu benched Agu they are speaking about later in the season after Le Guen was fired.. Now the first 2 of the 8 matches I gave you was even prior to the firing of Le Guen.

Let's start the analysis:
Match 1: Agu played at the left side of the DM pivot while Shehu played as Right Midfielder.

Match 2: Shehu played at the left side of the DM (where Agu played the previous week), and Agu was moved to the right side of DM.

Match 3: Same as match 2 above

Match 4: Agu was clearly benched by Soyalp. Shehu retained his left DM position. Why was Agu not the preferred choice at left DM, a position he has played before? (Refer to Match 1 above).

Match 5: Shehu and Soyalp still a prefferred choice, Agu benched. Same question. Why was Agu not the preferred choice at left DM, a position he has played before?

Match 6: Shehu moved to RM, and Badu takes his place at left side of DM. What is Agu still doing in bench? Shehu proving indispensable grin

Match 7: Shehu and Soyalp partnering again as the DMs. Agu is still sitting in bench.. Not even coming in as a sub all this while.

Match 8: Shehu giving a special leave, and from the woods Agu appears as DM. Soyalp moved to RM..

From the above, if you can't deduce that Shehu is a preferred DM to Agu by Bursaspor new manager, Er, then you hate the truth.

Modified

Let me add that Mustafa Er was Bursaspor's assistant manager, when Le Guen was in charge. So both Agu and Shehu was well known to him before he became their interim coach.

forgiveness:

Fact

Anything outside this, is a big fat lie.

was it not same mikel that have been tipping in the English team to win the world cup...

mikel really suffering from inferiority complex...still remember his reaction after he was elbowed by Giroud against France...something that would have Fetch the French man a card...he took it for fun.

mikel is not an aggressive captain. iwobi reaction that day...made me think twice...same player who has an affinity with England....could mean business when both teams played each other.....

that's the kind of player you need walk through tight rope
Even in this recent England friendly Mikel fouled that mumu Sterling, Mikel now offered him hand, Sterling shooed Mikel and shunned him. Where I was watching the match, na so people curse Sterling. One man now said even Mikel's greeting was too much. That he should have just tapped Sterling shikena. And I see reason with that. Siasia, Amokachi, Oliseh them all had this robust and positive arrogance. They respected you but were no shrinking rats around their peers. Heck, Oliseh marked the Almighty Diego Maradona and disturbed him wella in 94. We need some swagger abeg. This humility no be am. Remember Iheanacho and Otamendi. Otamendi wey dey like aguagua dey even beat Iheanacho hand comot from him shoulders.

Our players should know that they represent Nigeria but even more than Nigeria they represent Africa and the entire black race. Walk with pride boys!

Tbaba1234 is the team list for tomorrow match not out yet?....

I'd have to pray that neither Onazi or Joel starts the match... I am tired of seeing any of them already

Haha, Onazi will have a point to prove if he starts.

it has to do with mental edge....
same could have been said of mikel...at least to prove the English press wrong in their opinion of him...also the likes of troost ekong at least to showcase his abilities and prove doubters wrong and lots more....

you just can't give what you don't have....it shows iwobi has that attitude...it is a positive one...a very agile and imposing player... someone that can't be intimidated.

Iwobi had a point to prove just like everyone else on the pitch and he shone like a shining star in a long dark night.

When fullbacks attack, it is normal for DMs to cover for them. It is not a matter of leaving your role, it's a matter of covering gaps. As a matter of fact, some Nigerian coaches mistake this to mean that these players can play as fullbacks. We've seen keshi deploy onazi as a RB before and even Rorh used Ndidi as RB against Zambia. In a three man defense, when a wing back attacks, it is the role of the RCB and LCB to cover for them that is why you would always see azpilicueta temporarily take up the RB position when Moses attacks, but when it comes to the flat four back line, DMs conveniently do this.

What guardiola did this season was to reverse this system and have fullbacks slot in as DMs when the DMs attack.

What I am saying is that covering a full back does not mean pursuing the full back to defend someone high up the pitch. In this case, Onazi was not covering the full back but pressing along with the fullback and thus creating a huge gap and imbalance in the defence.

In the picture below, he is totally off position and not part of the defensive set-up in any way.

I don tire for all these this vs that player. even among the 23 again?
. No player would singlehandedly take us far. They all have to play their parts as a unit for us to do well. Let’s talk tactics. Sometimes I’m beginning to think that some of these players are from our villages o.

Our complaints and cries too much. So much clatter. Why naw my people.
