Italy was one of the best teams then, Baggio was at his peak, they played us till the last minute. Our guys were tired and inexperience played in too. Italy woulda won the world cup if not for baggio's injury that didnt make him play well in the final. They were better than brazil. Super eagles tried against italy. Same thing happened against argentina in the group stage, inexperience and too much respecr for the opponent.

the Super eagles l know will beat czech republic 2:1 this afternoon to a message to the group that we are ready for the show.

The greatest undoing of the USA '94 Eagles was the gang up against Rashidi Yekini, which meant he was isolated and starved of passes from his strike partner Amokachi, and then, George Finidi. We ended up scoring goals from Yekini (inevitably), Finidi, Amokachi, Amuneke: everyone wanted to score and prove that Yekini was not the "messiah" Oliseh stopped giving the telegraphic passes Yekini made hay with as well. Fans would recall how Yekini walked straight to the dressing room when he was substituted against Greece. The guy was frustrated! In the end, Italy easily sent us parking as the house was already divided against itself. May disunity not bedevil this team.

“In the first half, the Eagles had so much respect for the English and weren’t coordinated in the middle and sometimes at the back, but all that changed after the coach made some changes and we saw what the team could do. The Czech game would be different, I expect to see a better Eagles side on Wednesday,” Taribo told Punch.

He also backed the team to do well at the World Cup in Russia despite questions over the team’s ability to advance from Group D, which includes two-time world champions Argentina , Croatia and Iceland.

“This team will surprise bookmakers and people who have written them off. I had a chance meeting with some members of the squad in Abuja before they headed for London and I can see the spirit of the 1994 set in them. I believe they will do well in Russia.”

There is going to be surprises when the world cup properly kicks off, the only thing for u to avoid when placing ur bet for Nigeria matches is if u can know the kind of jersey they are going to wear, Pure green means win, green mix with white means lose...... I stop here.

Hmmmm. In 1994 The Nigerian Super Eagles team were 5th in the world!!!!
Some of the players were built like a tank (lots of muscle). The lineup was so imposing physically that countries all over the world were afraid to play Nigeria.

This team doesn't even look like the bench of 1994 not to talk of 1st eleven. There are very good individual players in the current team no doubt but all I see are butter boys with lots of class and money. I don't see the 1994 zeal/drive or spirit or physique....I just can't compare.
