I was processing a transcript some two years ago...and since I was leaving Nigeria soon, I asked if I could give them my email address...instead of phone number

Was just having this discussion with my aunt yesterday. I need my transcript, sent mails to my school with no response.....Her husband picked his laptop sent a mail to the university he finished from in USA, first their was an acknowledgement and a call to confirm where he was sending it to and alas, it has been forwarded.

I am still looking for lies to concoct so as for me to travel and get my transcript....

Op, you exposed nothing. It is common knowledge Nigeria higher institutions of learning don't respond to email and phone enquiries. Most of the phone numbers on each website are either not registered on any network or privately owned and the owners are angry Nigerians who have no business with the schools.

The schools are too lazy to organise themselves and join a global village.

Is the OP talking about our shambolic institutions ... You don't need a soothsayer to tell you everything in Nigeria is in a dilapidated state...

This shows that the malaise of the country goes beyond government. Nigerians are largely incompetent! This may sound harsh, but it's true. If a VC cannot provide the appropriate leadership in his university to drive the use of ICT, in spite of the massive use of technology in the world today, is that the governments fault.

I always say it that Nigerians are good at administration, being told what to do. But we are very poor at being creative, inventive and visionary. Thats why our police are always the best at international peace keeping missions. Because oyinbo man who takes time to think, plan and strategise tells our policemen to jump and Nigerian police man will say "yes sah"!

You can hardly get quality staff in Nigeria. They won't think or do anything. They act like they have no brain. If you don't say "Segun, take that file to ops managers office", Mr Segun who has been seeing the file all day will not use his brain to take it there.

To be honest, this type of attitude is more prevalent in the public sector, but is also very common in private sector. Only well professional and performance driven organizations like banking, telecoms, oil and gas, conglomerates (like Unilever, Guinness, BAT) and professional services like KPMG etc are different. And guess what? These are almost all oyinbo parented companies.

So back to my point. Nigerians are LARGELY incompetent!!!

I can't be so dumb to send any Federal organisation mail. It doesn't work. Waste of time.
95% of private sectors respond mails.

When they tell u to attend good schools like Unilag, U will carry ur big head and be attending OSU, Lautech and unaab where the head of records still rely on files and cabinets!

unilag does respond to emails. My sister's admission issue still never got back to us. But we learnt and got recommendation to go see the registrar

This brings my reflection back to Tonyebarcanista thread about Kenya being ahead of us. In terms of technology, I would agree 100%.

I was filling the FRSC recruitment form at the end of the form, on submitting it pop up and error and asked me to contact the admin, which I did right there in, but up till now no single response from them. I wonder why put such thing when you know you will never reply nor support such.

All these our archaic universities. Nigeria is still light years behind the west in terms of doing things right. Shebi na just last year one official of govt was celebrating opening of hundreds of email for his parastatal as an achievement.
Also a note of caution, anyone who needs a transcript for WES or ECFMG or Physicians Apply and wants to use the email option, be sure that you have called the university first. That waa how my ECFMG verification was on hold for weeks till I had to use courier.

What do you expect from a country where the leaders are still living in the 16th century and have vehemently refused to Change from their obsolete ways. Imagine them still allowing cattle to graze everywhere in this modern age and time. Emails can scarcely be their problem as many don't even know what it is. its a culture down here everything including the president is obsolete.

Abia State University should please take note of this. They have caused alot of their student's denial to various universities abroad simply because the email on their letter head paper is different from their current functional email address

UI that will tell postgraduates they are doing online registration but still force them to print out their forms and join long queue. Our school administrators are archaic and recruitment into many position is never based on merit. So even if they employ people to respond to mails, they will be unqualified and incapable of doing the job.
