Hello All found this online I found it very useful

F-1 visa: how does a visa officer think
1. Show me your GRE score card?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your academic abilities.
Good Answer: Just show with a smile, looking in his/her eyes, no need to talk.
Bad Answers: I do not have my GRE score report/ I never took the GRE test.

2. Why do you want to study at Univ xyz?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your preparedness and focus on studies.
Good Answers: Prestigious University with world ranking, Research areas match my interest/ I have funding.
Bad Answers: Low fees/ My brother is in the same city.

3. Where all did you apply?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze whether your purpose is studying or somehow reaching USA.
Good Answer: I applied to A, B, C and D. – Whatever is the honest answer. If applied to more than 5, can mention 5.
Bad Answer: I applied only to this university A, where I am admitted [Rejection imminent, unless that university is very famous]

4. Do you have any relatives in USA?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to USA.
Good Answers: My elder brother / Nobody [whatever is true]. You should not mention cousins or uncles. Only mention direct relations, eg, Parents, Siblings, Spouse, as per the visa questionnaire.
Bad Answer: My second cousin and his friend live in USA.

5. What are your future plans?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: Work in my country as….
Bad Answers: Work in USA/ I have not thought. [You are perhaps lying, but truth will lead to certain rejection - Sorry, this is how the system is designed]
Above is the only example where we advise to tell what is expected answer, not necessarily the truth. VO is legally bound to reject the visa if you say I want to work in the USA. They know that most people do not come back.

6. Who is paying for your education?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to see if you can afford the education, else you will work illegally and stick around in USA.
Good Answesrs: Got a RA/ My father will pay out of his savings.
Bad Answers: Bank Loan/Sell property. Any fraud answer.

7. What is your area of research?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your preparedness and focus on studies.
Good Answer: True and simple short answer.
Bad Answers: Vauge answer, Not decided yet, too generic answer, example, I want to do research in Electrical Engineering.

8. Show me your degree certificate?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your authenticity. They sometimes look at the degree across the light, in a way some people check the authenticity of a currency note/bill.
Good Answer: Just show with a smile, make eye contact, no need to talk. Provisional degree is acceptable.
Bad Answers: No degree or even provisional/temporary one. Degree in a non-English language, unless that is very common in your country.

9. Why do you want to go to USA?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to USA.
Good Answers: Top universities in the world, exposure to current developments and research. Opportunity to experience the diverse culture alongwith top quality education.
Bad Answers: Going to USA is a childhood dream. US is a great country, I like USA a lot. I love US Dollars.

10. How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: True answer. Never hide existence of siblings wheter they live in your own country or USA.
Bad Answer: Any false answer

I confidently answerd all the questions she asked
: When i got there she asked the following questions in this order
She was dishing out blue paper like mad
I think the lady that attended to me is just a sadist
Vo: Pass me your passport and i20
Me: Which i did
: V.o: what will the program do for you ?
Me: It will equip me with the knowledge to practice more competently and professionally as a community pharmacist and will aslo give me the leverage to partner with ngos of federal ministry of health in a bid to reduce disease burden when i come back to nigeria
V.o: whats your highest qualification ?
Me: B. Pharm degree
: V.o What do u mean by b.pharm, ?
Me: bachelor of pharmacy
: V.o When did u graduate ?
Me: Didnt hear her well, so i said xxxx university.
V.o: When
Me: 2015
V.o: what have you bn doing since then
Me:Me: Went for a compulsory one year internship training programme in xxxx teaching hosp, and then proceeded for my nysc prog in a state specialist hospital in delta state.
And i got a job since then in 2017 as a supreintendent pharmacist of Bleep pharmacy in Bleep state.
V.o: How many uni did u apply to ?
: Me: I applied to 4 uni
: V.o so why this particular one ?
Me: Apart from the fact that west chester uni has an mph programme that is ceph accredited, i wanted to say what ceph means so she cut me short, and said i should continue, i'm more intrested in its well established mph multidisciplinary curriculum that focus on problem solving researches and professional development, additionally i will, then she cut me short
: V.o: we have lots of people today, so dont mind me cutting u
: Me: I smiled
: V.o: who pays for the trip
: Me: My dad
: V.o : what does he do ?
: Me: He is a civil engineer and he is the ceo of olubi construction company in osogbo, he majors in properties and infrastructural development and also invest in real estate
: V.o: Can i see his account statement ?
: Me: Yes, u can have it
V.o: She then meticulously flipped through the account statement page by page for about 2 minutes
Me: V.o She then asked what is the name of your dad
: Me: Bleep xxxxxx xxxxxxx

She then paid attention to the cover letter and then checked the front page of the statement of account again, but i doubt if she checked the balance well

She then returned the soa copy to me
V.o : So tell me the duration of the program, the courses u will take
Me: It is a 45 credit unit course, i will be taking 24unit core courses and 21 units in my major, Some of the courses include biostatistics, epidemiology, general environmental health, social and behavioural science and there will be a compulsory 300hours applied learnig experince at a community site, this practical exposure will make me a better health education resource when i come back to nigeria.
V.o: She then typed for more than 3minutes which she never did for other applicants
And then gave me a blue paper, what are my errors ?

There's a place where you have to indicate either Lagos, PH, Abuja or any other. If you choose Lagos, you'll be given two options, one mainland option and VI. If you choose VI, an address will pop up which is DHL VI address.
If you are talking about the part where you are asked to put in your home address and mailing address, then use whatever address you've been using before.

At Nitta, thanks for your reply.
There was no option. it is the place where I have to input the location myself. The page where u will fill your passport details- just underneath it- There is a blank space for mailing address, postal code etc.
I think it is the pickup location for returned documents but not sure.

Now, I told you to send me list of MS Finance programs you saw and I'm sad you just provided list of universities with some of them not having MS Finance programs. It will be great if you do things in a nice way so that you can get the best form of assistance you need. Let's look at the schools you listed.

University of Wisconsin : There are several Universities of Wisconsins. Specify the one you mean.

As I said earlier, you should have an idea of what jobs you want after graduation and where you want to work before choosing an MS Finance program. All programs have their area of specialty and how they place their students. Having an idea of that will help you in selecting schools that meet your needs.

Also, I should point out that most top MS Finance programs do not provide full financial aid especially those target schools with excellent placements on the Street. So if that is a priority, you should also consider that while making your choice of schools.

Forgive my typos. I wrote this in haste.

True, bro. You are right. However, when a state operates a University System, the location of the most prominent university is often not included. Just like the University of Maryland, College Park is often referred to as the University of Maryland. So, by University of Wisconsin, assume that the guy meant UW-Madison.

NB: And if the guy was referring to UW-Madison, the school has MSc in Finance.

You're correct!
However, the MS Finance for UW-Madison is meant for their undergraduates. International students cannot apply.

Goodmorning House.

To the elders in the house please i need your advice on something.

So in my school, we are allowed to work outside campus only during summer, it was a new law that was paased by the international admission centre last summer since there are rarely no jobs available during the summer in school. So my fellow Nigerians here who pioneered the move and also enjoyed that benefit last year had been here for more than a year. I got in here in January. Fortunately for me i got a job with a telecomms company for summer internship, now the company said the university must sign the page 2 of my I 20 form and that i must have been in the Usa for atleast one year. The internship department communicated with the Homeland and securities department and they said i must have been here for a year before i can work outside campus but school says international students have the summer to themselves so they can work anywhere. Now i am a bit confused on what to do.

Incase i get another off campus job and they are not willing to pay cash, will the off campus summer pay that reflect in my record affect me when i am filing for my papers? How is it like or done in your respective schools and states?

Thanks

Yes, it may be an issue later. No any proper job will pay you in cash in US. That means your ssn would be collected and reported to irs for tax purposes and to dhs to verify your eligibility to work. If you get caught doing undocumented job, you and your employer are looking for the wrath of ICE. Try get EAD for pre-opt but the sad news is that it takes about 4 months to approve and you must work, paid or unpaid in a field significant to your studies. Best!

If you can get someone to pay for you in the state 72,000 or a little more is okay. However, if you plan to pay in Eco Bank Seme branch, make sure to go with 85,000 for that exchange and an additional 7 to10,000.
[/b] Note[/b]
Go with 90,000 (in Naira)
Not the EcoBank on the Nigerian side.
Make sure to print out your coupon number and take it with you. (To avoid oke afufu [too much suffering])
Take your passport with you.
Beware of agents that charge additional 20 to 30,000 to make the payment for you in Nigeria.
It could just be a waste of your time, money..... and time. cheesy grin
You don't want to do that.

Sorry I miscalculated.
Here it is.
