They should celebrate June 12 every year as democracy day while May 29 should only be observed every four years whenever a new president is being inaugurated 1 Like |

doctokwus: Hello! You do not need public holiday for inauguration day.How many countries have inauguration date as public holiday? We need public holiday to mark the essence of June 12: A symbol of Nigeria's unity, the day Nigerians shun religious bigotry, to vote overwhelmy for a Muslim_Muslim ticket. 2 Likes |

Throwback:So what happens on inauguration and democracy days? You don't see how clueless and unserious your government is. Those two days will definitely be declared as public holidays. Have you thought of its impact on the economy. I'm Yoruba and was grown well enough in 1993, went through all the June 12 crises but I don't see any sense in declaring June 12 or May 29 as Nigeria's democracy days. Inauguration day is okay for me, and that can be on any date. It need not be on June 12 or May 29. The important questions we are not asking the Dullard in Aso Rock are these. 1. Is he not 'killing' democracy in Nigeria with his outright disregard for the rule of law and separation of powers? 2. How does this declaration affect the living? I'm coming to a painful conclusion that Nigeria is hopelessly lost under Buhari and her condition can only be further exacerbated if this Dullard is mistakingly or forcefully returned to Aso Rock, |

GoodGovernance:Nigeria didn't really shun any religious bigotry. Do you think Nigeria would have done the same if a christian-christian ticket was presented by SDP in 1993? You would be so naive to think so. Christians were only understanding enough just because Nigeria was tired of the military and we wanted anything but the military. 1 Like 3 Shares |

Sentiments apart. the naming of MKO Abiola as 'HOS' by PMB is simply to curry favour from the south-western region of Nigeria against the upcoming elections next year. the truth remains that MKO was just a 'President Elect' who was never sworn in constitutionally as the 'HOS' no thanks to IBB that refused him his rightful mandate but in the 'Anals of our Constitution' MKO is not a recognized head of State and therefore is not entitled to hold the honours 'GCFR'. So June 12th can't be democracy day because was never officially handed over to the 'Peoples' elected president ' Having said that I think he should be immortalised for setting the precedence for a true democratic tenets in Nigeria. Just my two cents 1 Like 1 Share |

emmasege: Very illogical reasoning you have. Are you aware that the other party fielded a a Muslim(Northerner)-Christian (South. Easterner) ticket. What has being tired of military got to do With the fact that people could still have voted along religious or ethnic line. Are you aware that from the few results released, MKO defeated Tofa in his state ,KANO? Are you aware that MKO also was leading in the SE? Nigerians simply voted for the best candidates irrespective of religion or region!! 2 Likes |

Re: May 29 Remains Inauguration Day For Presidents – Senate by Throwback: 6:43pm On Jun 07, 2018 |
emmasege: Inauguration day is the day of inauguration, so it must occur when the tenure expires and another begins, so that is May 29th. In the USA, it is Jan 20th or so, and it is not even a public holiday to the best of my knowledge. Democracy day exists because of our historical struggle to get it. 1 Like |

doctokwus:May 29 is just handover/swearing date for states that still maintains that calendar and for the presidential office, it will cease to be a national public holiday since it isn't sacrosanct. The only national holiday will be on democracy day June 12 1 Like |

This announcement was made to bring a certain tribe that usually and noisely claim to know too much very close for the second time, harmer their head, collect the only thing they brag with and then dump them. If the president is serious, let him declare Abiola the authentic winner of that election, then hand over to his eldest son on June 29th next year. Only this way can this make sense. 1 Like 1 Share |
