A US man who was convicted for a crime he didn’t commit has been released and will be paid a whopping sum of $13 million. A man jailed for 25 years for a rape and murder he didn’t commit will be paid $13m. Anthony Wright was sentenced to life in prison in the US for the 1991 slaying of his neighbour, Louise Talley, 77, who was raped and repeatedly stabbed. The conviction was reversed in 2014 after DNA evidence pointed to a former crack addict who died in a South Carolina prison. Wright filed a federal lawsuit accusing police of writing a false confession and coercing him to sign it without reading it, and planting other evidence used to convict him. The city of Philadelphia said on Wednesday the settlement doesn’t include an admission of liability. Mayor Jim Kenney called the agreement a fair resolution of a case he called “tragic”. OrestesDante:Lol. Its even more than 4 billion naira at the current exchange rate, but lets go with that. Assuming an active working period of 40yrs (that is, minus school life and retirement, lests say from 25 - 65yrs), 4,000,000,000 / (40 x 12) = N8.33million per month. That means more than 98% of salary earners in Nigeria will never make that. It's a pity. |
