Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has claimed that an unnamed agent representing a Qatari-based Nigerian player attempted to influence his World Cup selection without success.

The German also revealed that agents give presents to journalists for them to write favorable articles about their clients so they get invited to the national team.

''I was recently at the Lagos airport, prior to the squad announcement. Suddenly, about 200 young people marched up, with giant posters. "Gernot Rohr, We Love You" was written on it, and my picture was huge,'' Rohr said in an interview with German newspaper Welt.

''I first thought "Wow," then wondered how they all knew when I wanted to travel. We took pictures, and gradually I realized that the guys all wanted to recommend a player to me, who is playing in Qatar and still wants to go to the World Cup.

''Later I learned that the player's advisor had staged the whole thing. ''

Rohr added : ''There is often a lack of expertise. In addition, players and their advisors like to give gifts to journalists to put pressure on the coaching team, for example, if they want to be called up to the squad. Nigeria has a lot of different media, but unfortunately not all are serious.''

Rohr and World Cup winning-manager Joachim Löw are the two German coaches that will be in the dugout at the 2018 World Cup.

Victor Moses Rated Nigeria's Best Player Vs Czech Rep, Iwobi Second Best Outfield Player
Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses was rated as the Super Eagles best player in their 1-0 loss to Czech Republic in a pre-World Cup friendly held in Austria on Wednesday, June 6.

Nigeria will take on Argentina in a potential decider on June 26 during the World Cup and the South Americans monitored proceedings from the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion (Schwechat) to know much more about their third rivals in Russia.

Argentina sports newspaper Ole reckon that Moses, who was awarded 6.5 marks from a possible ten, was Nigeria's best player on the pitch but didn't get enough help from his teammates.

''His performance went from low to high and he became the figure of the Africans. He took charge of the ball, put together a game and distributed with a lot of class. He is the engine,'' they wrote on Victor Moses.

Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi was Nigeria's second best outfield player with a score of 5.5, ''In the first half he did not feel comfortable and did not find the ball. But in the second half he improved..''

Francis Uzoho was rated 6 while second-half substitutes Tyronne Ebuehi and Elderson Echiejile were the defenders with the best rating, 5.

I disagree with the Lineup coz we've over-choked the Midfield and there is gonna be Confusion among the Midfielders.

3 - 4 - 1 - 2 is the answer - two Strikers are needed in the Team - Iheanacho and Musa gonna be my Choices to be candid.

Iwobi behind them as a No. 10 - with a Pivot of Ndidi and Mikel behind him as DMs. Yeah..... Moses should play as a LWB while Ebuehi plays as a RWB.

The Trio of Ekong, Balogun and Omeruo can play as CBs.
Moses can never play as a lwb for Nigeria,, Chelsea is Chelsea he's our Messi here

If you say the coach is experimenting new formation, I'll agree with you. But to say we are trying to deceive our opponents, I'll say it's same ignorance we use to have as kids.

During France'98 world cup, when we were a goal down we all chorus that Nigeria is weighing how strong the opponent is. Second goal we were still adamant until the third goal was conceded.

We're are poor in set pieces.

I still however believe that....
Let me not say it because a lot of people here don't dare to dream.

Look.

Let's be honest.
ROHR IS A POOR COACH.

I don't understand why people are scared of admitting this simple fact. Is it because he's white?.

Rohr has a lot in common with Buhari. Both old men are never ashamed of making silly excuses for their failures.

First it was Poland. He cried "Mikel no dey".

Serbia whooped our asses. Same excuse.

ORDINARY CONGO dominated us. He cried "Bad pitch".

The English came along and used us to wipe the floor. Mikel and all. Rohr blamed it on their long travel. As if teams don't fly long distances to play Champions league matches and still return to play in their league sometimes that same week.

And then, to crown it all, the Czechs who couldn't even qualify for the WC beat us too. And the new consensus is "He is hiding his plans". WHICH MUMU PLAN ABEG?

So Southgate doesn't know that it is good to hide hide his own plan? The Polish ,Congolese, and Czech coaches didn't know that too. Only Rohr the master planner remembered to hide his super magic plan.

Of all the DM/CM's Nigeria has both home and abroad, the best Rohr could give us was a pregnant Onazi!.

I will need a lot of convincing to believe that there is no left footed leftack in Nigeria who is better than Echiejile.

And is Ighalo the best we can offer as a CF??

I seriously don't know which drunkard does Rohr's scouting for him.

Even a child will know that the team best thrives on a 3-5-2 formation. But dinosaur Rohr keeps making the same silly mistakes. Playing a slow Mikel as an AM when we have Iwobi. Playing Shehu( a DM) as RB when we have Ebuehi.

And for all the blind fans here led by Mujtahida and his cohorts who will soon brand me a Senegalese or Algerian, you never cease to marvel me. Anybody who thinks a team that cannot string three uninterrupted passes in midfield against Congo and Czech rep will do well at the WC deserves to be examined by a psychiatrist.

Let nobody deceive you. We'll be lucky if we get a draw against Iceland.

All thanks to Gernot Rohr.

FOUR CLUBS IN HUNT TO SIGN AWONIYI AS VISA OBTAINED

Date: 7th June 2018 at 4:40pm

Written by: William Howard

Liverpool have obtained a US visa for their Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi as they pave the way for him to be selected for their pre-season tour, according to Goal.

The football website claim the centre-forward, 20, will be loaned out again next season amid interest from four clubs in Belgium – Anderlecht, Gent, Standard Liege and Club Brugge.

Goal report Liverpool could include Awoniyi in their squad for their pre-season tour of America even though he does not yet have a work permit to play in the UK, and then give the green light for him to head out on his fourth loan in four campaigns.

OPINION

by Finance Times

Red tape has prevented Awoniyi from being able to represent Liverpool at any level since he joined the club in 2015. But the physically imposing striker is a real gem and there is a strong belief from within the club that he can eventually make an impact in English football. His reputation across Europe is growing all the time and all the big clubs in Belgium want to take him on loan next season after his excellent 2017-18 campaign at Belgian top-tier club Mouscron, where he scored 10 goals and supplied eight assists from 31 matches in all competitions. To put this achievement in perspective, only three players on Liverpool’s books – hallowed trio Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane scored more goals in the recently-completed season. Awoniyi has also been capped six times by Nigeria at Under-23s level, but, to get a UK work permit, he will need to establish himself as a regular in the senior side. But that won’t be his only chance to get Jurgen Klopp’s attention, as the possibility grows that he could take part in the tour of US in July, when matches are scheduled against fellow big guns Manchester United, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

Nigerian teams of all ages have been poor with defending of set pieces and also poor in converting them.
Oga icon4s i was on ghost mode reading different views and it was like whao Nigerians really love eagles..

Oh really surprised seeing a whole Chriskel losing hope and lamenting like a lost soldier in the wilderness.Initially i thought he wasn't him until he responded to a salvo from safarigirl and his friend Mujtahida nailed him.

He came out and said he doesn't know what came over him.Initially i thought he must have jammed metaljigsaw the broken bottle man cos Chriskel i know is a passionate super eagles fan.

My good friends Michael2 and goldfish80 never dissapoint. They remain real critics of Rohr even when he was winning believing tactically the man is not getting it right and to be candid Rohr is not getting it right now going by the friendlies.

Safarigirl,TheSuperNerd,icon79 O pari master and Joebie remain unshaken still showing total support for eagles.

Really surprised to see some monikers who are always on ghost mode came out in full force to share their views and different opinions ranges from team leadership of Mikel,Moses an obstacle to the team formation, Ighalo not good enough, Uzoho not that solid,Balogun/Ekong look vulnerable, Shehu finding it difficult,Iwobi should be used as AM,Mikel and Onazi supremacy rumours etc.

I sighted tbaba1234 doing his thing with hope,BasconVanVelli looking hopeful,Elyte89 showing his comical approach to douse the tensions in the house.Metaljigsaw looking at the team critically before he play his bet.Marzt still showing his undying love for some players in the team.Omanbala raising up his mind for better outing. Mujtahida believe there is no tension. Goke and Oasis believe there is hope if Rohr get it right.Andrew444,Realpoacher,Soetanoluwa,junnyake showing their moods with critical analysis of the team.Humility 017 and Martz never disappoint.

But forgiveness and Komkne really surprised me with their great analytical views of the team. They are indeed a lover of super eagles.

Icon4s reading your full comprehensive post showed patriotism of a real super eagles fan who is ready to swim with the team in any circumstances.

I think we need to continue showing that love even in unwarranted situations cos is our team and we have been long here talking about this team,so the recent performance should not weakened us like my good friend Chriskel who wasn't happy and i will not blame him cos if Australia could walloped Czech republic 4 nil why Nigeria losing to the same Czech.

Pls we should stop saying Rohr is hiding his check cards for WC,no the team is not getting it right and truth must be told.Let's hope for better performance at WC.

Then the third group:they are neither here nor there, they are not hot, they are not cold, you can hardly decipher their stance.

Official: Nigerian Midfielder Pens New Long-Term Contract With Liverpool, Joins Rangers On Loan
Scottish Premiership club Rangers have confirmed that they have added Nigerian starlet Ovie Ejaria to their squad ahead of the start of preseason training.

The England U20 World Cup-winning midfielder joins the Light Blues on a season-long loan from Liverpool and has reunited with manager Steven Gerrard at the club.

Ejaria penned a new long-term deal with Liverpool before he was farmed out on loan to Rangers, subject to international clearance.

''It’s a really great feeling. I’ve been at Liverpool for four years now and I’m just really happy to extend my stay here, '' Ejaria told Liverpool's official website.

''It’s a massive club, the club’s doing really well at the moment, so it wasn’t a hard decision at all.''

The former Golden Eaglets invitee joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014 from Arsenal and has made eight appearances for the Reds first team.

The 20-year-old Ejaria spent the second part of last season on loan at Sunderland.

What Super Eagles midfield needs - Bewarang

By Editor At June 07, 2018

Bitrus Bewarang, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, has urged Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, to strike the right balance in the team’s midfield ahead of the World Cup.

Bewarang gave the advice on Wednesday in Abuja while reacting to the Super Eagles 0-1 loss to the Czech Republic national team in pre-World Cup friendly match.

The match, played in Austria where the Super Eagles are camping for the World Cup, was the final warm-up match slated for Nigeria before the team departs for Russia.

A Tomas Kalas 25th minute strike condemned the Super Eagles to their second consecutive defeat, having lost 2-1 to England in their previous friendly match at the Wembley Stadium on June 2.

Bewarang, who was a former Super Eagles Assistant Coach, said Nigeria’s midfield had to be more mobile.

“I feel that we need to get the right combination in our midfield. We need speed and more mobility in the midfield so that the attack could function better.’’

Coach Rohr made two changes to the team that started against England on June 2, with Wilfred Ndidi and John Ogu given a nod in place of Joel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi.

Bewarang, a former Plateau United Coach and General Manager, however, expressed the belief that with 10 days to Nigeria’s first match against Croatia, the coach had to stabilise his team.

“I think the coach has been trying to build a team and I believe that now he has seen all the players from the various friendly matches.

“With 10 days left before Nigeria’s first match, I am sure what is next for him will be to stabilise the team.

“Hopefully, by the time we play our first match on June 16, we will be able to get the result we desire,’’ the former Green Eagles player said.

He, however, said he was optimistic that the Super Eagles would perform well in Russia.

“As a coach, I always believe that we should always expect the best from our players.

“Our players under Rohr have been doing well in terms of passion and dedication.

“That is why everybody has the confidence that they will do better than in previous competitions and I believe that too,’’ Bewarang said.

NAN reports that the Super Eagles managed to win only one of their five pre-World Cup warm-up matches.

A Victor Moses penalty in the 61st minute gave the team a narrow victory over Poland in Warsaw on March 23, before they fell to a 2-0 loss to Serbia four days later in London.

The Super Eagles also drew 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt on May 25 before subsequent defeats by England and Czech Republic. (NAN

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NFF AND THE SUPER EAGLES COACHING CREW FROM MEMBERS OF THE NAIRALAND SUPER EAGLES FANS BASE.

We are ardent followers and supporters of the Super Eagles. Most of us may not make the trip to Russia, we cannot be with the coaching crew, we are not part of the NFF, neither can we kick the balls with the players. However, we can only make our little contribution by way of advice to the NFF and the Coaching crew.We believe firmly in the ability of this team to perform creditably well because we have both the footballing and administrative personnel to make it happen.

We are an assembly of fans who have seen the game for several decades and have followed it with burning passion all through the years. We have extensively X-rayed the reasons for the disappointing ends to our past World Cup outings and hence provided some tips for both the NFF and the coaching crew to critically look into:

1. The need for the NFF to sort out issues of bonuses and players’ welfare on time: We sincerely appreciate the current effort being put in place by the NFF to ensure that bonuses and allowances issues are sorted out ahead of the World Cup. This is a commendable step towards avoiding players boycotting of training session as witnessed in the last World Cup.
2. Majority of the players who qualified the team should be kept. Only players who are better than the current crop should be added. Introducing too many new players had its negative effects in our 2002 and 2014 campaigns. The team should also be a good mix of youth and experience as we hope to achieve a balanced transition in the team even beyond Russia 2018. The best players should be selected devoid of favoritism.
3. Quality pre-World Cup warm up games: We have started with an excellent one with Argentina and should continue in that line. Perhaps a top European and or Asian Opposition would not be bad for us in March, 2018. We propose camping in Russia where we expect high profile friendlies in the window leading to the World Cup
4. Instilment of high level of discipline in the team: This is to curb “over-confidence”, lack of team play by some players, segregation in the team and excessive celebrations both on and off the pitch: These kind of attitude had negative effects in our past world cup outings.
5. Updated FIFA rules must be understood by players and coaches to avoid naïve situations. A simple case in time is with our goalie – Daniel Akpeyi in our most recent friendly against Argentina. Also the same Argentina used it against us at the 1994 World Cup. Ie Cladio Caniggia and Diego Maradona. Also players taking off jerseys to display inscriptions should be kicked against.
6. Our players should learn to react to tackles in such a way as to influence the ref’s decisions in our favor. We have been victims of influenced or lack of influenced referee’s decisions in past world cups. Eg Onazi’s tackle against France in 2014 World Cup would have been a Red Card for Matuidi if the Nigerian players close to the action had reacted appropriately. Brahimi would have been sent off if Shehu had gone down after being head butted amongst others.
7. The technical bench should be fortified to world standard. The NFF should also engage the services of world class sports psychologist and physios

We believe so much in this Team. The NFF and the entire coaching crew are doing a Super Job with the Super Eagles. We can only hope for the Super Eagles to Fly above all expectations come Russia 2018.
*A QUICK REMINDER*

can't believe that the same people who agreed on that number 2 are now singing different songs... SMH.
