rationalmind: When you made ur intention known on pen and paper.. Never look back, and never mention the reason and where you are heading to....The level of OBI-AKPOR in Nigerian work environment is devilish, especially when you are good at your job...No company ever wants to loose a good staff especially to higher paying jobs and they will go to great length to make sure you dont archieve your dream of a higher pay I have heard of cases where they back date sack letter becos of this....You get to the new company and because You dont have a letter of discharge from your previous company your new salary can be slashd by as much as 60%, this will be backed up as company policy in their hand book and you will be promised promotion if you do well in your new position.......Your rat race will now continue....You are about to be set up to loose 2 jobs 1 Like |

Mcy56: I was in similiar situation about 12 years ago. I stayed back with Company X after they matched and surpassed the offer I had from Company Y.... And I stayed for the next 5 years not getting any other promotion. Like Wanaj0 said, you need to know the profile of the 2 companies before more can be said. In same company, I had a colleague that left to another company, double salary but she earned that salary for only 2 months and went on to work for another 3 months without getting paid and then became jobless. I still regret not moving to company Y when I had the opportunity but am not 100% sure I would have been happier there. He needs to weigh his options carefully. I also had colleagues that left for wholly public sector only to look for how to come back few years later. He needs to also find out how promotions are done in the new company. I know of some people in GlobaCom that has been without promotion or trainings for over 7 years. Whatever levels you get in, you remain there till....... NB: In my case, Company X is partly government, partly private. Job satisfaction and day-to-day challenges are there. Company Y is purely government, nothing challenging as per say. You only need to challenge yourself to a large extent. Both also enjoy job security (Company Y tops on this though). 2 Likes |

wanaj0: It was as though u read thru my mind Sir Wanajo !! ...particularly on points 1, 2 and 4. U sure do know how to assess and analyse matters objectively. I have since made similar points on this matter. ...and so I'd prefer not to stretch it any further. Whatever Sir Rationalmind decides on, I sincerely wish him well !! |

@oga wanaj0, It is quite difficult to say more than I already said without revealing too much. Lets just say the major difference between Y and X is in the salary and career growth as earlier mentioned. As my Ogas have said, a better decision would have been possible had I not told X the actual reason behind my resignation. Truth is, I don't have enough confidence that the management of X won't be vindictive should I decide to stay. A big thank you to all who commented and advised, I wish I can add ten thousand units of Nestle to your respective portfolios as appreciation. 5 Likes |

wanaj0: Bros nothing concern me with name, if Japaul can pay me times three of what Seplat is paying me I will leave and save all I can for the little time I can work there. After all no job is secured in Nigeria. When they mean to sack u, reason must come out. 1 Like |
