wonlasewonimi: Another thing I have realised is that it’s best to pay the yearly premium in full upfront. Paying monthly is more expensive as the insurance company adds interest on monthly direct debit payments. 1 Like |

Ralphlauren: I have never done monthly payments. I just get it out of the way once. Some insurance companies will do you a deal for upfront payment for 10 months to have a year no claims bonus 1 Like |

Ralphlauren: Toh! See how you’ve saved a lot. Me I saw a better mobile contract, called my providers and told them I wanted to leave, they now offered me a better deal. I’ll keep admiral in mind for my car insurance. Thanks |

Lexusgs430: I’m telling you. And I’m in the north where the cold no get part 2. I’m saving towards getting a car. In 2 months, I should be gallant enough. I have already been eyeing some cars in chapelhouse (they give 0% interest for 5 years, which is think is just super especially as na auto I wan drive, and it seems they are more expensive here!) |

wonlasewonimi: But is there anything wrong with using the the normal traditional bank? What advantage do these online banks have over the trad banks? Just curious sha. Cos Oga said we should open our joint account in NatWest, it’s doing me somehow, like I’m betraying Barclays |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Aphrodite007(f): 2:14pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
Ralphlauren: Really? I don’t pay anything on my Barclays o, maybe it’s cos it’s a student account. Like every damn thing in the bank is free for me. Maybe I shouldn’t migrate to the standard Barclay bank account then. Osho free men! |

Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Ralphlauren(m): 3:48pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
Aphrodite007: Is that for new or used cars? Do you pay a percentage contribution? 5 years is a long time to drive the same car (in my own opinion ohhhhh). So think about it well before you commit. You might even be better off going to the car manufacturer directly via one of their own dealership. 1 Like |

Aphrodite007:There's absolutely nothing wrong with traditional banks. I still maintain my accounts with Halifax, HSBC, natwest and nationwide. The analytics provided by these banks sold me.. The fact that I get notification for every transaction and the location of where the card is spent and the shop. One of their marketing slogan is that you get notified before the receipt of your purchase is out. I can freeze the card if I misplace it or stolen. These capabilities do not exist with traditional banks. I can spend overseas without charges too. You should never own just a single account in this country. The bank can tell you they will close your account if they so desire... I know people this happened to, they were in dire straits trying to open a new account to keep getting paid after the account closure. 4 Likes 5 Shares |

Ralphlauren: Yeah I get you but I never planned on paying for up to 5 years, maybe 3. It’s a mixture of new and used. And yes I really have been thinking about going directly to the dealership. Thanks for the advice, I may reconsider. |

wonlasewonimi: Thanks boss, I’ll keep this in mind. Maybe I’ll open the starling as my current account. I have just been weary of these small banks shutting down one day, haha blame my Igbo sense! 1 Like 1 Share |

Mamatukwas: Why don’t you use moneysupermarket to compare insurance. Please money is not a joking matter to be wasting anyhow. There’s no room for “had I known” |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Mamatukwas: 9:44pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
Aphrodite007: I did, na there we get the £680. But I can try again if I feel I can still get lower |

Aphrodite007: This is not Nigeria aunty Aphrodite007..the banks are regulated by FCA / prudential regulators and depositors funds are protected upto 85k for each account holder should the bank go down same level with traditional banks. |

Mamatukwas: Wait you found a car for 4K? Wow! No wonder Oga shouted when I told him I wanted a 14k car. I was thinking 14k was cheap o , ah they will just sell me in this country |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Mamatukwas: 9:57pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
wonlasewonimi: Hahaha I don't like wahala i promise... just trying to get the best deal. It's on comparethemarket that I got £680 as lowest offer... but coz they ask you to input different parameters I.e approximate amount of miles covered per year, insurance contribution etc... I want to know if the amount is fair or not. It might be that I sabotaged my search by minor things I inputed. And yes it's comprehensive. Shey u understand? Tainku |

Aphrodite007: Abeg, no give Oga heart attack o... £14,000..... Just look for a better Toyota Aygo (automatic), build your insurance history, get lowest insurance premiums, gather no claims bonus, year 2 (start to protect your no claims bonus).... When you have built up enough road experience + insurance history + road network familiarisation. Buy a decent car or better still, upgrade your aygo....... 4 Likes 3 Shares |
