erico2k2: Lol you are funny, why ask me such a sheepish question consistently and you even expect to receive an answer from me. I even hinted that in case I wasn't aware of it as the green horn you've been insinuating that I am, I could easily get this information online yet you repeatedly asked this question. I don't think you have the innate ability to understand things as easily as you ought to, especially as someone who has been giving off an impression of an exposed individual 2 Likes |

erico2k2: the UK must have a better system then, in France that 25K will be taxable, and if you dare not file it on your tax return at the end of the year, you can get in trouble. yes there are many ways to go about trying to dodge paying the "mob", but these are all illegal ways... like having an undeclared offshore account OR set up an offshore shell company 3 Likes |

erico2k2: Your PAYE is taxed according to your net income in UK, as for Nigeria it's only someone like you that will say we pay higher because you don't know many things hahaha I hope you know net and basic income are not the same? I won't teach you sha, bye. 1 Like |

travelland:Stop Assuming, and embarrassing yourself, your PAYE is not taxed basic its taxed according to your Tax code, everyone's tax code is different, we may earn same but pay different tax, your tax code gives or specify the amount of taxfree Income you have.Plz stop embarrassing yourself, even this information is on Line and you was boasting that any Foool can dig up info but U was not clever enough to even dig up the simplest of info TAXCODE.Stop trying to be inclusive, there is no harm in saying I don't know dnt even know how embarrassing U sound! 3 Likes |

EMMAACHILE:you see that tax rate of 20% is called basic BT, this is what the HMRC uses when they have or could not determine your tax code, once your tax code is prescribed you get all the over tax money back, the reason you saw 20% is for the simple fact that everyone gets paid via their tax code and we all have different tax code so its extremely difficult to put a single % as deduction, hope this is better and clearer. Bross the Police force get paid average of £29k a year. I am not going to give you a bracket to what I earn cos its of no importance but I dare say £33500 is Ok, people get mortgages for £25k jobs as we speak! Do not forget the Pound£ has weight. 1 Like |

MrBrownJay1:can I ask you something, do working people file in a tax return in France? I'm not talking of people who own their own biz or self employed, Im talking people who are in employment !cos we do not do that here. You have a P60 at the end of each year sent to you by HMRC, that outlines how much tax you have paid that's it.Wen U leave that employment you get a P45 sent to your new employer. If your new Employer fails to arrange ur correct tax code in time you are charged BR (basic Rate) @ 20% until you are sorted. I had £950 returned to me one time cos of BR |
Re: I don't think Nigeria will ever get better. So leave if you can! by claremont(m): 6:17pm On Jun 09, 2018 |
travelland: I don't understand what you mean by ''high taxes''. In the UK, we get taxed a basic rate of 20% on income up to £46,000/year. A 40% tax rate is applied to any income above £46,000 but below £150,000. If I earned £150,000 per year, I would be very happy to pay 40% tax on it, it still leaves me with a net income of £90,000 before national insurance is deducted. We don't mind paying high taxes in the diaspora because we see what the money is used for. We enjoy free healthcare, education up to university level is funded by the government, a social infrastructure is in place to take care of the most vulnerable etc, and all these are financed through taxes. So, I don't understand why you keep on going on and on about taxes, we pay tax and we enjoy what the tax is used to finance. 7 Likes 1 Share |

claremont:Bross U cant be taxed 20% unless you do not have a tax code, That basic 20% is for people who's tax code have not be determined, its also called Emergency tax code. this is used for people in new employment or new entrant into the labour market! My tax code allows me to have the first £11k tax free. |

erico2k2: of course! any adult person files/pay a yearly tax (called "les impots" ), on top of the monthly taxes that are deducted from your salary..... each year you will have to file your taxes and let the government know about any other source of income/donation or whatever you may have acquired during the year. you also let them know about whatever deduction that you deserve, and depending on how much you acquired, the "mob" will let you know how much you have to give them back (aka their share) or how much they should pay you back. 1 Like |

I can see that everyone is just talking about taxes here and there. Specifically talking about the negative side of heavy taxes but no one seem to talk about the usefulness of all these taxes either in Nigeria or Abroad. For those who have negative grudges about heavy taxes in Abroad as claimed, can you tell us the difference in terms of basic necessity of life enjoyed between Nigeria and Abroad? For those who like the bribing (deceiving taxes), or those who are faithful in their taxes, are u really seeing the usefulness of those taxes? Someone should go and find out how much income is generated by "Alta & Beta" and others through taxes, but yet no meaningful impact from those money generated. Can u imagine they are even inguarating the renovation of five classrooms in a government owned school. Something that suppose to be basic things and we should look forward in achieving greater things with all the contributions by the so call masses. Stealing is not corruption!!!! |

claremont: This is true However saying western countries are not better than Nigeria is laughable Maybe to him because he has built a cash buffer for himself, but For the vast majority, Nigeria is HELL! Whenever I'm in Nigeria, inside the taxi from the airport going home, you will see the frustration and anger in the land, and the helplessness Hunger has multiplied and begging has tripled. I get approached by someone EVERYDAY to beg. It's a very terrible country I tell you. A terrible and souless country 4 Likes 1 Share |

It's funny how while some others are planning to "go home" I am disconnecting myself gradually from Nigeria Very interesting I tell you As much as Nigeria is my country of origin, I don't really feel at home here, probably due to the prevailing mentality and how the country is run But it's fine To each his own At the end of the day, it's happiness and fulfilment we are all looking for, wfich in my case, I cannot find in the shithole. 2 Likes 1 Share |
