Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you can’t get a job unless you get your papers well. If you are in the south and do mago-mago to get a job, you will be paid shitty money. I think you should just focus on your kids. And what your husband earns isn’t bad. You people will just learn to cut your coat well well.

As for going to school, there’s no “cheap” nursing school, because you are classed as an international student until 3 years (after getting your papers) of being here. The least I have seen is 15k sha.

Mental health is quite good. I know people that make money doing it.

I know it’s too late to regret, but I’m sure you can see now that it would have been better for you to have just gone back home, married and returned here to work. I hope people get to see this and learn from it. Regardless, behind every cloud..

What I’ll advice you do now is join a church, cook for them, make nigerian meals and advertise online, learn to sew and make hair, buy and sell online, etc. Cos as far as work is concerned, oma me!

To start with, you should have gone back to nigeria and have your husband file for you to return back to the UK as his dependant.

You’ve said your partner is on a work/business visa. I assume this is the entrepreneur visa so why is he working at a nursing home? Has he considered switching career paths? What’s his educational background ?

It’s going to take up to 2-4 years if not longer to obtain your discretionary leave to remain. If you had returned to naija, with all the right paperwork, within two weeks, you would have obtained your dependent visa which gives you unrestricted rights to work and also study and you would have returned back to the UK with your kids as legal migrants.

It would have cost your family a lot financially but when you consider lawyer fees, the back and forth with home office, the 2-4years (or more) of unemployment on your part (lost income), then you will see that returning to naija would have been a better option.

This route you’ve taken is just added stress on your husband. Being the only income earner for a family of five is tough and considering the fact is not eligible for any benefits at the moment.

Be wary of friends encouraging and advising you to overstay. I would also be wary of friends advising you to work at mental homes (when it’s clear you have no passion for such roles). Such friends are usually the group of people that believe the only roles immigrants can get in the UK is care job which is an absolute fallacy. You needs friends around you that will advise you to do things the legal route. Friends that can inspire you to aim for a role in a fancy office at Canary Wharf.

Now that your visa has expired, if you return to nigeria and your husband files for you with his current status, you will be refused. You will have to wait till he gets his citizenship (another 2yrs+) before he can file for you under the spousal visa route.

Until you regularise your stay, it’s going to be very difficult earning an income. Focus on your kids, decide on what career path you want and go on udemy and see if there are short courses you can take.

You are mean sha! this is exactly what most people here want to say to her but there’s no point crying over spilled milk. And the people advising her to overstay probably don’t know better, so I won’t blame them- Knowledge is according to exposure.

I really wish her the best. Especially as she has kids. I’m living fine with a good income and possibility of earning so much more but I can’t even imagine a child now, talkless if not earning and then having three. I really feel for her.

Exactly! Lex gave me this idea and it really makes sense. So cheap car for two years then close to dream car after that. My father go laugh me die butbit makes no sense to buy an expensive car when you haven’t mastered this their yeye right wheel driving (like would it kill them to join the rest of the world? We are moving down south in a few months!! So scared and excited! I love this place but we have to go with the cheese.I hear things are more expensive especially in the KSS area but we will be fine..fingers crossed.

Still haven't bought the house because of this move.The houses i'm seeing around the area are from 5-6 huns for 4 bed I pity myself.

Have learnt from old mistakes,have very good credit history,using the credit card for payments and always pay back etc etc.

Since it's a new area we've never been to,we plan to rent first and then buy in 3-6 months.

In this western countries everything looks very flash, its so easy to get carried away coming from a country like Nigeria. We must be very cautious when making certain decisions. e.g Like the kind of friends we keep, we need people who will inspire us and who are realist not those who add no value to life and give you false hope or no hope at all.

It is very easy to get into debt because credit is thrown at you from left, right and centre and it takes one with a lot of self control to resist it. These sales people are professionals in their field. I had a friend who went to the shop with money in his pocket to buy a 42" screen outright and came back with a 55" on a finance with insurance and the lot. His excuse was the sales person was so nice and he felt bad saying no after all the talk.

Questions you have got to ask yourself not only for the newbies but for the oldies too. If the unfortunate happens and you loose your job or you fall ill? Will you be able to pay your bills for about six months without falling into Financial difficulty.

If a black man and an white man are given £10,000 each. The black will most likely go for a nice set of wheels (Black Mans Wheels) and designer gear, while the English man will get a mortgage and take his family on a nice holiday. We see it all the time with the American rap stars and after a while they go bankrupt and they don't understand why.

We hear stories of white people thinking black people have got small brains , why do you think that is? The black man does not know how to invest in their communities. look around the world in America and Britain where they are large concentrations of blacks the characteristic features are poverty and crime. So now lets take a look at our individual selves. I know its not easy , but when we can afford it you should be able to have emergency fund cause no one knows what's around the corner. Even if you have insurance, it doesn't really start paying until about three months and some even six months.

The fact that you can afford something, if it doesn't add value to your life and you have to be living from one paycheck to another to pay it, then its a false economy.

We should learn from the Asians and the Jews, they enrich their communities not just themselves.

My hubby is the most simple man I know and still the cos of his outfit breaks my heart, especially as I’m a loyal primark customer! Also during my work training, the trainer asked a question “what would you do if you had 10k now?”, i shouted save or invest, everyone looked at me like I was drunk then started discussing how they would travel and all (I’ve never felt more embarrassed before, they looked at me like I’m an ijebu man- or woman in this case).

I believe in making use of the financing system because it’s one of the things that differs this country from Nigeria, however ensure you pay back. My credit card is not even on the “pay the minimum option”, even though it’s interest free for some months, I pay the whole thing back. So financing isn’t bad unless you have a knack for buying what you can’t afford.

That’s the best way to make use of the financing system, you get credit cards that save you Petrol and give you cash back. Buy stuff on free interest periods. Etc

Personally, i think you shouldn't spend over half or a third of your savings on a car...What if you want to oppress, just buy a 2nd in a different colour!

A lot of people of different nationalities have had to remain in the UK illegally for various reasons. It is not advisable to do so but in your condition I do understand as you have young children. However, you will not be able work, open a bank account or rent a house and so many other things.

I do know of someone who came to the UK with a visiting visa, had children here and was able to legalise his stay when his kids turned 6 and 4. The application was initially refused by the Home Office but he won the appeal as the Home Office lawyer didn't turn up. Usually kids born in the UK qualify for citizenship after 10 years regardless of their parents status.

I heard all started from the era of horse riding and horse carriages. Apparently, people mounted horses from the left and sheathed their swords on the left side, and in order it didn't collide with people on the other side's swords, they maintained left side....It also helped so you could pull out your sword with your right hand if you needed to fight immediately.
