For those who have negative grudges about heavy taxes in Abroad as claimed, can you tell us the difference in terms of basic necessity of life enjoyed between Nigeria and Abroad?

basic necessities is a different ball game altogether. different countries, different rules... but let us not try to make it seem like Nigeria is hell and abroad is paradise (when it comes to running a business). i fully understand that a great deal of people living in Nigeria will always believe that "any" country is better than Nigeria, but the fact that MANY people living in the west gladly willingly come back home (or that well off people dont want to live Nigeria) should tell you much about this issue.

Ugosample:

This is true
However saying western countries are not better than Nigeria is laughable
Maybe to him because he has built a cash buffer for himself, but For the vast majority, Nigeria is HELL!

why do you think INTELLIGENT people all over the world willfully go back to Nigeria, if we all believe it was hell?! this is "your" opinion, and you are entitled to it, but i am just giving people mine. the majority of people in the west pay taxes NOT because they want to but because if they dont, they are sent to JAIL (ask Wesley Snipes)...

let me say it again, so we dont go off topic: when it comes to having to pay through your teeth to run a biz, the west aint better than Nigeria. on one hand you have to pay HEAVY taxes, on the other you have to pay HEAVY bribes. same con, different land

Whenever I'm in Nigeria, inside the taxi from the airport going home, you will see the frustration nd anger in the land, and the helplessness

Hunger has multiplied and begging has tripled.

I get approached by someone EVERYDAY to beg.

It's a very terrible country I tell you.
A terrible and souless country

yes, life in Nigeria is NOT easy for the majority but does that make Nigeria a BAD place?!? are you claiming that all nigerians are miserable?! the way you feel about arriving at the airport in Lagos, is the same way i feel everytime i go to Paris (home)... and let me not even start about what i think about the misery/stress i see in the faces of people in grey/rainy London.

again, on paper, many of these places look/sound perfect, but the minute you actually LIVE there, its a different ball game... and as much as you will have running water, constant electricity and free healthcare/education (for most), there will come a time when such necessities, wont matter to you any longer, and your priorities will upgrade.

true story: i have a 2 cousins who moved from Nigeria to the UK in 98 as teenagers, 20yrs down the line, one loves it while the other one hates the UK and would gladly go back to live in Nigeria if he financially could.

It's alright

Priorities upgrade true, but so far, I have not seen any of my relatives who are keen on coming back to the $hithole, despite spending decades abroad, and of course, most of them are doing well.

Nigeria in our case is not just worth it, and even though we still have investments back there, to actually live there, raise kids etc is a no no for me.

On the positive side tho, Nigeria gives a very high ROI, be it real estate or portfolio investments, which is a good thing, and what I exploit, (I believe you do same)

Apart from that, Nigeria n'est pas pour moi et ma famille. Beaucouo des choses sont déranger là malheureusement, et je pense pas que ça peut changer tôt undecided

This can only happen in a growing economy bro, you don't get this when an economy isn't growing.

It seems you are in a use and dump relationship with Nigeria grin

as i said earlier, everybody has their own priorities....i know many who have been in the west for decades and yet A) live from paycheck to paycheck, B) have nothing to show for but a house they/ve been paying all their life and C) hope to get a jackpot before they come back to Nigeria because "being successful" is what everyone in Nigeria value.

Nigeria in our case is not just worth it, and even though we still have investments back there, to actually live there, raise kids etc is a no no for me.

thats exactly the point...after struggling to make it in the west, many start to look back at Africa and understand that there is so much POTENTIAL there, compare to anywhere in the west... and thast why i say that the well-off people in Nigeria, who could move out and never look back, DONT LEAVE!

From my perspective, it is simply different strokes for different folks. In the USA, thanks to TRUMP you now get more from your pay check aside tax. if one has the opportunity i would simply advice yiu leave. You dont have to go to france, japan or switzerland when you can explore CANADA. Nigeria is simply good for investment that is if you are financially buoyant.
Life in the USA cant be compared to this FORSAKEN country. They keep shouting CHANGE and i am yet to see any CHANGE.

the fact that you would assume that we (NLers) are all living in Nigeria (or are Nigerian) is your mistake in this issue. here is a clue on this issue, my main occupation is WORLD TRAVELLER, and if you took the time to check my profile pic, you would have understood that such scenery is NOWHERE NEAR Nigeria.

now back to the subject at hand... do you even pay taxes in Nigeria? In Nigeria you pay bribe, in the west we pay TAXES....same sh1t different name!

here is a clue: here, we sometimes have to pay up to 60% (or more) of your biz gross income on taxes, then you MUST pay a minimum wage to your staff, therefore no fulltime employee can earn less than 700€, then on top of your employee's salary you have to pay 10-15% to the gov for his social contribution etc. if you own a property you pay property tax every year. if you die and leave all you wealth to you children, before they can legally get it, they must pay 40% inheritance taxes....yep thats CORRECT! let me explain it better for you: if you have a house that cost €1M, and you die, before your child can legally own this house, that child must pay €400K, and if they dont have the money to pay it, then the gov will sell the house and take their 400k before giving you the rest (same goes for any CASH you may have left in the bank for your children etc). even if you are alive, you cant LEGALLY give more than 100K to your kids without them being taxed on it?
how much do you pay to fill up your tank in Nigeria, again? thats right, we pay throught the roof on this side of the world for gas. and if you dare to go on a road trip, you have to pay toll gate, Paris to Marseille which is about 800kms, cost 60€ (aka ₦25K) in toll gate.

so yes, in Nigeria you pay bribe, but in the west you pay just as much in TAXES, which is the exact same sh1t!
Exact summary.
