Sorry I came late to the Party, but I think you've got far better Responses. Mickael2 really hits the Nail where it Matters...... honestly I share his View and has little or non to add.

Africa Football is the Answer. We ain't as tactical as the Europeans to be candid. I was watching Germany vs S. Arabia Game, and I was like..... are the Germans really Machines?! They knew where to be, when to make Runs, and where/When Passes should be made.

This ain't our Ways. We didn't win the Gold Medals at Atlanta 96 playing the foreign Ways. We played our Game, our style and we wowed the World, same thing at USA 94.

Siasia wasn't given enough time with the Eagles. I believe in his Philosophy and Mentality. Unlike many of our previous (local Coaches), Siasia has a Philosophy. His Team has identity and he's certainly prepared to make a Mark at the Senior Level, but wasn't given enough Chance.

We can't ever be or play like them (Europeans) tactically, hence we should play our own STYLE. Let's sell African Football to the World once again!
this is what i meant when i mentioned that it is the european mind that dictates how football is played today. can we beat them by playing the game according to models that play up the strength of the whites? No!
we have to evolve a system of football that incorporates the effectiveness of the european mind yet distinctively african

Nigerians will never get tired of this topic. I laughed when some people started making reference to their Girlfriends/wives. I'm 2 years older than my sister but she will always look like my big aunty whenever we are together. Female gender tend to look way older than their male agemates. They should not be used as reference when discussing this topic.

My younger sister also looks older than me as well. Trying to guess people's ages by the eye test will always fail.

Of all those players you listed, which one of them can you compare, in terms of dribbling skills, with the non-Euro players like: Ronaldinho; Messi; Jay Jay Okocha; Neymar; Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi; Wilfred Zaha; Kanu Nwankwo; Abedi Pele; George Weah .... and I can go on and on but the above would suffice.

O pari

TheGoodJoe:
First, let us remove the notion that the Europeans do not produce good dribblers.

Off the top of my head, Figo, Brian and Michael Laudrup, Gascoigne, Joe Cole, Ryan Giggs, Overmars, Seedorf, Johann Cruyff, Dugarry, Djorkaeff and a host of others.

Today, in dribbling talents, which Africans would we put above the likes of Hazard, Dembele, Isco, Thiago Alcantara, Bernardo Silva, Sane etc.

I doubt we should think we edge the Europeans in individual creativity.

This should be the concern of the South Americans. Not us.

whether it is wrong or not, I can't say.

However, a semi finals without one of Spain, Brazil, France and Germany looks quite off the mark to be honest, unless those upsets tbaba spoke of, happens in Russia

On this issue raised again by Sir Mujtahida, I have much to say but have chosen to sit back and listen to others.

I just smiled and am glad it was brought up again. See ehn... If you have watched the movie, Pele: Legend of the game, you will see a scenario painted exactly that addresses the matter.

The Europeans couldn't decipher "Jogo Bonito" aka Samba style... There was an emphasis at first on trying to do like the rest of the world that Jogo Bonito is too local and all that... That it would not compete with the rest of the world, but the coach finally caved in to Brazil's true philosophy and all they needed to have was a target they directed their style towards.. It worked magic and Pele, the king of Jogo Bonito himself even at 17, led Brazil to World cup glory.

They triumphed and a new style was born. A style the world struggled against for years.

If we must succeed in this European dominated football world of passing and passing and more passing and running into space and all that... We must be brave enough to impose ourselves as a national team and nation even playing our own style mixed with a fine blend of theirs so as to be shapeless to them yet organised in how we execute it.

Something they don't understand is what they will call, "Formless", but it matters not.... What matters is that we know what we will call ours and stick to it, our African flair, power and style mixed only with the best relevant bits of their(foreign) style which can be turned against them at will. It will take time... But with determined persistence and bravery, we can impose ourselves the same way Pele and Brazil did back in 1958 to birth a new era in football.

Beautiful discussion and I commend all that contributed. Thumbs up all of you. wink

I felt like I was reading extended analyses from different perspectives on the movie doc "Pele: Legend of the game."

Mathematical probability of the pig's prediction is, realistic... Based on the grouping and the path the mentioned team could following enroute the semis..

Lol... I already know why you say so oh thou O Pari Master.. grin wink I too was about dropping my observation based on the pairings for the knockout rounds... But had to speak a little on the Mujtahida football philosophy discussion.

I checked the likely knockout round matches and found that Mystic Marcus (the pig) may end up being right on just three if all goes according to its prediction... because two of the four are likely to clash before the semis... Leaving just three to make it into the semis.

Well, time will tell... Let more mystics please come forward and drop their own views please... Looolll

Glad you totally understood my point. I will look for that movie.
If the Brazilian squad of 82 had won the WC, perhaps the complexion of world football would have been different from what it is now.

Imagine Brazil were in USA 94 yet we were crowned most entertaining team. And ranked 5th in the world shortly afterwards. There's really need for an African style coupled with the best of the European style.

How precisely does this work?

I don't know if anyone has answered the question. I think it works same way as your GPS sports watches such as Apple sports watch or any other device like that. Fieldwiz is a bit modified with better adaptability. Inside the sportsbra-like vest is an electronic device, nearly same size as Nokia 3310. Each player is assigned a particular number. Echiejile is wearing no.5, so 5 has been assigned to him like his personal code.

During training, the device uses GPS technology to basically track player's movement and ball positions, field zones/areas covered by him, heatwave and in combination with other devices can monitor heart rate, his runs, speed, number of steps (used by athletes) as well.

The data is analyzed at the end of the training session. Data could also be compared to other training sessions, so for an unfit player, it will be easy to spot decline in performance. Same with someone being monitored to check improvement in performance.

So it is used to track, control and improve performance.

Mujtahida:

i guess this is a subject dear to your heart cos i doubt if you have ever written so much as this ever since i joined this thread.
the statistics support your position: all the countries that have won the WC have done so with indigenous coaches. westerhoff stayed here so long and imbibed our way and this influenced how he made our players play. i do not see anything magical about the tactics deployed by the top footballing nations that we cannot match but like you said greed and corruption is our bane. this is what spoils it for our coaches.

Seriously it touches me more than anyother thing. I'd have felt like a mad man if not that Oasis too grabs the fact that Siasia is close to everything we need. Some/most of our local coaches are only good enough for U17 people where ego is yet to set in. Look at Iheanacho's U20, IIRC Success came to the tournament a day or so before the first match yet he told the coach he wanted to play and the coach didn't check his ego and played him, in fact he ended up playing Awoniyi out of position. On a normal no African parent would behave like that, as a coach you need to be a tactician and a father to the players, that means you need to understand what they need and that is why top countries recruit local coaches. Isn't it funny that CAF coaching licence does not make sense, is it the Europeans that will teach us how to play football in Africa? Football did not start anywhere, just like you are black and naturally you can't have curly hair, so also you can't be able to do what the Europeans do. No African player can pass very well like Xavi, which is why Barca hardly waste their time recruiting African players. But no European is going to be as fast as Ikedia for 90mins straight, they naturally do not have that ability. All continents produce dribblers but obviously Africa produces a lot more than Europe because here nobody cares about the defender, only that fanciful winger who left 3 players in his wake, and the guy that scored the goal, that's how we work in Africa. So our advantages are, easily, our strength and our dribbling ability. Trying to imbibe a possession game will not make sense to us because naturally it isn't what we do, we do the direct approach to everything. So the sooner we realise that possession game, though it may be the norm, isn't our game. South Africa for example have almost all their players from the local league, the problem is that they tend to think that they are less African, they coach themselves in the European way trying to pass their way out, it may work in one or two matches but in the long run it won't work. Like I have said before, if Rohr was the team manager and Siasia the tactician going to this world cup, I would have applied for my leave, pay the 520k that I saw in one ad and go to Russia because I am sure we would be getting out of the group. Our problem is that our good local coaches almost always allow greed to take over them. For a moment just pause and wonder if Ike Uche or Obafemi Martins was our second choice striker in 2014, if Joel Obi had been the one entering that French game instead of Reuben, if Igiebor had been the player going in when Babatunde got injured, trust me had it been we utilised the proper tools we had France for dey go house, but even with only 11 players and 12 other farmers, Keshi got to the Round of 16, that shows you what we could achieve if we remove greed.

I don dey write too much sha because this is a topic that seriously appeals to me and it exposes our over-dependence on foreign stuffs and why we need to stop it.
