20W-50 engine oil is no good for modern engines, regardless of the mileage. It is too thick, and flow to sensitive areas like multivalve cylinders, VVT / VANOS and any other timing adjusters that rely on instant oil pressure will be impeded.Meaning one can use it for cars btw 1990-2000 Models |

bisi12004:the rating is there as a 40 weight oil. as for the effect on your 2001 corolla, I wouldn't even pour this oil in my thermocool generator. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I use Total 15w50 semi synthetic. As long as my engine starts immediately, I don't see anything wrong. In fact I am currently using Total classic because I had an issue with my radiator which led to top gasket burn and after replacement I have been having oil shortening which as made me to be using Total Classic of 2800-3200 Naira. I have done several servicing and engine blasting. Engine oil is all about startup and then ability to sustain at higher temps. Knowing something is different from understanding it. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Confusing thread... The answer mechanics in the house should have given us is which Oil type is best for our Nigerian climate. Whether it is safe to stick with the Manufacturers recommendation or switch to more favourable Oil for our climate. We move. 1 Like 1 Share |

I wonder I never heard of Polytron from any of the Automobile and Oil specialist Gurus on this tread. Does this mean, they don't know POLYTRON Metal Treatment Concentrate for ICE engines that reduces wear and tear to 99%. Infact I can tell you that secret of most of those Synthetic Engine oil is the use of Polytron in mixture with their production. POLYTRON is special oil addictive for the USA military machineries and equipment with great 99% performance across board. Just surprised none of them mentioned it... Or maybe am living in Mars. What you don't know, you don't know. |
