Naaah, it was a curved shot alright but all he needed to do was palm the ball with his two hands to reduce the force, then catch it easily afterwards. He did try to palm the ball but his technique was poor since his two hands were not close while doing so.

I agree he could have reduce the force by palming the ball but he could have also done what I said.

The point is he miss judged it hence his attempt to catch the ball.
