I disagree, there was the handwriting on the wall but the Junta refused to maintain a strong army so as to protect regimes.

Realistically, no future threat assessment with the countries you listed ever warrants an s-300. We need a serious air defence network & not toys here & there

An I totally disagree with you.

It's like you guys just want to argue unnecessarily. I never said we should by S400 missile but we can get class of medium range SAM.

The dude asked if we had defense capabilities. Air defense capabilities is broad ; it's either the offensive or defensive aspect of which we lack both capabilities regardless of neighbouring countries or futuristic threats. Unless you want to be over patriotic.

Probably you guys in the western-southern part of Nigeria has enjoyed peace for such a donkey years. And for those who are ranting war don't just happen like that, I wouldn't be surprised. Nigerians would never learn from her past mistake cheesy

Odunayaw is right na. Frigate have multiple VLS cells for SAM with all necessary system like radar, Control station, etc.

South African modified the ship launch umkhonto missile to land based umkhonto ADS.

Perhaps i don't understand, how does an Air Defence capability have an offensive part?

Probably you don't have a point.

The Nigerian armed forces does not have a air defence capability either offensive or defensive.

Having SA7 manuals, obsolete Rowland and F-7 jets is not enough for french backed neigbhouring countries.

You don't wait till a full war or conflicts starts before start building capabilities.

Oga, you need to read what you've writing over and again.

How can you say something does not exist in one sentence, then you say it exists in another sentence but it is obsolete. I don't get it at all.

Is there any evidence that there's going to be a French backed incursion into Nigeria's territory?

Where is your evidence to support your claim that the French will back Cameroun/Chad in an offensive against Nigeria when these countries are the provocators?

It is time Nigeria military planners start using their heads.

They should produce a list of strategic defence equipment they intend to buy in long term. The most populous nation in Africa should not have the same Defensive Capability as its neighbors.

Getting a capable defense system is more strategic than getting submarines, frigates etc.

You forget a frigate's SAM & Radars is still part of an AD network

Don't have time for ur long epistle... because they are non-grata in this discuss.

So like I advised you earlier brother, rather than concerning yourself with childish stuffs like who have right to insult people on this thread you should instead be more concerned about correcting those grammatical bombshells on your blog that even elementary kids will not make grin grin

An example of those bombshells on your blog is here

"Top 10 Most Best" grin grin grin

Juliet my little niece in elementary school wont write that junk grammar

Lastly, No hard feelings bro... Just want you to get better at what you do by majoring in major things, and minoring in minor things.
Peace out.

Like i said earlier, You shouldn't concern yourself Whatever grammatical bombshell encounter in a blog you have no business with.

Simply because you have no idea the reason its probably left that way.

There's something call "Search Engine Optimization" (SEO) - which "certain" words triggers Search Engine response. SEO has to be balanced with Users Readability. So if you see "most best", it was recommended by an AI SEO engine.

No hard feelings bro... But Now why don't you instead focus on your own unenlightened end because you clearly have no idea about anything military.

Next time someone asks for air defense assets... don't name gulma drone or CH-3 UCAV.

it makes you look like a buf00n.

What is obsolete to the US, used C-130s, Decommissioned ships Cutter class and Frigates, AH-1W Cobra AH, MRAPs doesn't translate to obsolete to 80% of countries on earth.

The Rowland might be obsolete against frontline fighters like 4th generation aircrafts, but not against Alpha jets and old SU-25s.

your neigbours still fly obsolete fighter jets that were built before the obsolete Rowland system you so much hate.

Its more like saying, "your neighbours have no fighter jet you want to shoot down".

Air Defence Systems are multi-layer. An S-300 ADS will be useless for a Nigerian based environment.

In fact for the S-300 to be truly effective, you need a potent medium range ADS like the Pantsir deployed in tandem with the S-300 system.

Yes, we have no potent ADS, but ADS does not compromise of long range systems alone. From AAA to Short range, down to Medium and the Long range systems as well as your frontline fighter jets, all these comprise the Air Defence Structure of any country.
100% correct!!

Can't build a pyramid from the top down.....more important than any SAM or AA gun is actually having proper and extensive radar coverage.

Nigeria should focus on getting:
4 Frigates and 4 submarines for navy.
Several MRAP,IPV,IFV,TANKs, etc for Army.
24 Mig 35 for Airforce.

We will automatically have the best Navy and Airforce in sub Sahara Africa.

MIG-35s for the Air Force instead of the JF-17.

And at the same time we should cultivate the habit of buying futuristic ADS. That is what a standard army or military does.

You can't use Frigates and submarines for navy.
MRAP,IPV,IFV,TANKs, etc for Army.
24 Mig 35 for Airforce; only to protect your air defense.

The Frigate and submarineso missile has some limitations and range . Highly mobile medium ranged missile will be strategic.

For heaven sake I never said we should go for s300/400. Check out all my statements, how many times do I have to say these.

We can go for something close "medium range missile", that is what a standard army should have.

Why though?? twin engine heavy fighters are expensive to maintain, and it's not like your defence budget would allow for 24 Mig35s.

18-24 JF17s or J10
14-18 Yak130s

plus

12 Mi35m(which NAF is recieving)

maybe adding another ATR42 for Maritime patrol

and upgrading your current c130 fleet(which seems is happening now) maybe adding(also possibly happening) another two to service(Im only aware of 3 currently in service with NAF 913,917 and 918).

As for the Navy

I agree, no need for a Sub for now, 2-4 Type 054 frigates to complement the 2 P18Ns.
