There is nothing like best Engineering course, the choice is in you and sequel to your epistle , any engineering discipline could be a petroleum Engineer in oil and gas firm cause I had two Uncle that studied EEE and work with Shlumberger and Exxon Mobil now. You need to think flexibility and versatility of a course before chosen it but if I were you I would choose one of these EEE, MEE, Mechatronics, Computer and Chemical Engineering...... And note that Civic Engineering is good but to practice it need some time and patience but the aforementioned one can land you a job at any Firm.... Shalom. 29 Likes 2 Shares |

kowasco: Too restrictive. If you (assuming it is you) are so much interested in chemistry and its derivatives, you should opt for Chemical Engineering. Better still Elect/elect. As for employment (salaries are usually the same irrespective of the course), strive to get a first class and finish by at most 23 years old. For you to be certain about the latter, enrol into a private university. This is assuming you are currently 18 years. If above 18; bros, study a four-year course. 13 Likes 1 Share |

MECHATRONICS has no rival....thats the future. next are electrical and computer. civil is manageable only that youll have to specialize on software to create badass designs. PLS DONT DO MECHANICAL. its not worth it anymore 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Electrical, Mechanical & Chemical are great choices, just strive to finish with good grades and finish young, because in nigeria age is also criteria 2 Likes |

dprpikin:six schools offer mechatronics at first degree. funaab, afe babalola and Abu Zaria are the ones I'm sure of. also, mechanical engineering peaked so many years ago. what we now have is modifications of mechanical systems through introduction of computer programming and electronics. hence the introduction of mechatronics. its however easier for electrical graduates to cope because they do a lot of electronics and little/basics of embedded systems unlike mechanical where there's so much mechanical principles to learn and zero electrical/programming. schools abroad now teach mechanical students programming too, but not in Nigeria. 5 Likes |

dprpikin:well, you're very right too. coz we're not so industrialized yet. I did mechanical engineering technology, HND. but I'll surely have my first deg in mechatronics. just working towards a strong financial base first. 1 Like |

dprpikin: job search ke! never again. I'll rather go through wall of bricks to establish something for myself. I love manufacturing. looking at creating gadgets that'll solve indigenous and global problems. Stop importation from west and China. but that's still later in the future. I'm currently into TechEducation, and we integrate electronics, mechanics, product design, 3D printing and prospectively programming to teach secondary school students how to make stuffs like solar lamps, rechargeable lamps, power banks, small robots and a couple of other stuffs. not so big yet though 6 Likes |

I have HND Mechanical Engineering try to upgrade to Information technology by doing PGD. I think EEE, computer Engineering, mechatronics rules right now. I was dropped from work due to oil price 2015, All the EEE guys has gotten another jobs but mech guys still dey look since then. I later got a job in the telecommunications sector which I am still doing till date. EEE is good my own opinion. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Petroleum Engr and Petrochemical Engr is the worst course to study. Chemical Engineering beats the duo hands down. Why restrict yourself to petroleum when you can study chemical Engr and be more versatile in the chemical, oil and Petroleum sector? There's nothing like 'best' Engr course to study; all Engr courses has their area of expertise. But instead of studying petroleum Engr and restricting your employability options, why not study chemical Engr and be versatile in both petroleum and chemical industries? 2 Likes |

dprpikin:lol. thanks Bro. I had a two-year stint as a classroom teacher and that opened up my thinking, and then I made up my mind. opportunities abound everywhere, all we need do is to think critically. may God help us. Good luck in your endeavours Bro. |

kowasco:I'll love to explain but I wouldn't be able to say much. you'll get great facts if you Google it. but its basically the combination of electrical, mechanical, computer engineering and computer programming. most gadgets are handiworks of mechatronics.....especially artificial intelligence and system automation. 1 Like |

kowasco: Choose the bold, more varied and you learn different things. Strive to make a first class and goodness Lord!; pay more attention to the "age caveat" I earlier wrote. Unless, you intend writing the GRE immediately. fucc12: Better Civil (assuming you have not started school). 2 Likes |

My area of expertise... It depends of what you want out of the course. If you want to study a course that you would never be out of a job and very broad course that allows you to have a wide range of options of areas you want to focus on , then go for civil engineering(Unilag or covenant uni would be the best for this, preferably unilag if you want to go into structures-prof Oyekan... And CU if you want to go into geotech- the one and only prof. Akimusuru). Also civil engineering is not a who know man kind of course for employment cause its very practical and no one is really concerned with your result from school but what you actually know. But basically in Nigeria, no lecturer actually puts effort into teaching, so if you want to study a course that allows you to learn easily on your own without the aid of school and become a beast...then opt for computer engineering...(i advice CU and FUTA(though FUTA would be very frustrating but you would come out ok)) I dont advice chemical and pet for the simple reason, and I'm going to be blunt as a Nigerian, the industries that absorb graduates from these two courses are the "who know man". As for mech... Dont think of studying it in Nigeria at all... I am talking from experience. Career wise. Chao. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

If you think you have what it takes to take on any engineering course. Go for electrical because it is way versatile. I'm studying chemical engineering because I like the idea of converting raw materials into finished goods, and chemistry!. I'm yet to see an engineering company that has no electrical engineers. Same cannot be said for other engineering courses. 2 Likes 1 Share |
