Former Presidential aide Reno Omokri has said that President Muhammadu is running the “biggest scam” in Nigeria via fuel subsidy.

Recall that a recent report had noted that the Buhari government pays ₦2. 4 billion for fuel subsidy.

Reacting to the development, Omokri lashed out at Buhari for berating former President Goodluck Jonathan over subsidy payment.

“The biggest scam in Nigeria is when a Buhari,” Omokri tweeted, “who called Jonathan a scammer for paying ₦1 billion Naira fuel subsidy everyday, turns around to now pay double that, at ₦2. 4 billion everyday.

“My question to the so called Mr. Integrity: Have the number of cars doubled in Nigeria?

If Buhari claims subsidy is a scam...and he's now paying double the amount.... He's a bigger scammer then. QED!

When you think you have seen it all... Something worse keeps hitting you in the face. Governance keeps getting worse!

How did this fool manage to author a book! exchange rate was less than half of what it is now, it definitely must reflect on every international transaction. And volume of consumption also cannot be what it was three years ago.

Despite nnpc being the sole importer of petrol product buhari is paying higher subsidy than the last administration.

The dullard have no explanation for the subsidy scam which he and nnpc were secretly paying until they were exposed .

So why did Buhari first condemn the subsidy by asking 'Who is subsidising who'? Why did he act like he did not know there were price differentials and he didn't know the meaning of subsidy? Why make Jonathan and the PDP out to be criminals only to turn around and indulge in the same thing 100 times over?
Mind you, we are talking about 1billion Jonathan was paying when crude was between $90-$105 so how come when crude has been hovering around $45-$75 Buhari is paying double that amount as subsidy or 'under-recovery' as claimed?
You say consumption cannot be what it was 3yrs ago? Don't you see how lame that statement is? When did population increase? When did the number of cars , industries and homes increase so much as to account for this sharp jump in consumption?

Prior to 2015 petrol consumption was estimated to be 30-35 million litres then immediately after 2015, in fact less than three years we are now told that consumption is about 60million litres! Na so the thing dey double? Go check the consumption figures n pattern in the past 10 years up to 2015 and see if this is not an abnormal, corrupt and criminal situation.

Look, I am not a arm chair analyst, I know what I am talking.

Don't you dare compare Buhari's kind of subsidy to Jonathan's:

1. NNPC is now the sole importer of petroleum products, unlike in the past when we had thousands of them ripping us off by collecting subsidies on fictitious import.

2. For most part of Jonathan years in government, the north east borders were impassable, with the return of relative peace, smuggling is back.

3. We were always having products scarcity during Gej's time, isn't it obvious that there were huge difference between demand and supply. Since Buhari came on board, we've had only one scarcity period, and that was when the nnpc shut out the importers in order to have a firm grip of the industry,' that shows you that supply is now matching demand.

4. Exchange rate differentials factors that I earlier sighted is definitely the biggest reason why subsidies amount has gone so high, while it was N200/dollar * 30m l/d then, its now N305/dollar * 60m l/d now.

5. The bottom line is, the product is much more available now, so we do not have to waste so much time queueing like we used to do.

Note: I am not saying that there is no fraud at all in Buhari's government, but considering that he has less resources and reserves to work with, the old man is doing a far better job than Mr Jonathan who had no reason in the world not have done well.

The problem is that during the campaign, then candidate Buhari said he did not know what subsidy is and accused the Jonathan administration of scamming Nigerians through the subsidy scheme. Again, on December 28, 2015, President Buhari said he was ending subsidy. On May 12, 2016 the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu said subsidy had been removed. The price of petrol was increased on that basis to ₦145. Finally, on December 15, 2016, Vice President Osinbajo said there was no more fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
The question is that, given the revelation by Baru, Nigerians now need to know who is lying amongst President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, minister Kachikwu and GMD Baru?
This question is even more poignant when you consider that there is no budgetary provision in both the 2016 and 2017 budgets for subsidy payments. Ditto for the 2018 budget, which is yet to be passed but is not yet to be padded!
In other words, if the so called anti-corruption administration of President Buhari has been paying subsidy, that fact alone is an act of corruption. Specifically, spending monies that are accruable to the federation without any legislative appropriation, is a crime of misappropriation.
And then a few days after Baru’s Freudian slip, the Vice President had a snafu when he said that it was the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and not the Federal Government that was paying subsidy.
That Vice President Osinbajo could even say it is NNPC and not Federal Government that pays subsidy is an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians. Does he think us so vapid and dense that we cannot see through this subterfuge?
What is NNPC? Is it not an agency belonging to the Federal Government? Who is the minister in charge of the NNPC? Is it not the President? Who is the chairman of the NNPC board? Is it not the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, a member of the federal cabinet? The Vice President ought to remember he is a pastor.
The truth is that for years, the Buhari administration has been lying to the Nigerian people and that lie came to light this Yuletide season when the Buhari government simultaneously ran out of funds and lies and could not borrow enough to hide the fact that it has been paying subsidy at a rate higher than the preceding government which it criticized.
Do not forget that in a rare moment of honesty on July 12, 2017, the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, admitted that (and I quote her) “We cannot borrow anymore, we just have to generate funds domestically to fund our budget. Mobilise revenue to fund the necessary budget increase.
The truth is that this government has financially near bankrupted Nigeria to the extent that something like one quarter of our budget is going to servicing debt and despite what the propagandist in government say, they will have no alternative but to increase the price of petrol from ₦145 to at least is ₦171.40 per liter (the landing cost) but more realistically to ₦190/200 per liter if they are to make a profit.
And to show how uncoordinated and shambolic this administration is, the President’s main spokesman, Femi Adesina was on TV saying that this administration will ensure that Nigeria stops importing fuel by 2019.
The Buhari administration has not built a single refinery. They have not repaired the old ones. If you believe Femi Adesina, then ask Buhari if he has made Naira equal to Dollar as he promised during the campaigns.
But of course, if his boss does not even know his real age, how can we expect his spokesman to know that to stop importing fuel you have to increase refining capacity locally?

Only sane minds will understand what Omokri said..

Inspite of the increase of fuel prize from 87Naira to 145Naira, the Federal Government still pays Fuel Subsidy like never before..

The kind of scam cartel buhari/APC's government is running is one in history and can never be found anywhere else.

Please don't lie about scarcity of petrol during GEJ! The only scarcity was in 2015 towards d end of his tenure. It was in his time Nigerians knew they could have steady petrol supply during Christmas and New year.

You mean the price for supposed peace is resumption of unchecked smuggling which we now pay for? Why is this government asleep on the issue? Is it not another form of insecurity? Rather than equip the customs and other border agencies to ensure proper regulation of our borders they want to close land borders because of rice smuggling. What about the impact on legitimate business conducted across those land borders?

In my opinion, Buhari is not doing well at all. Again I ask, why did Buhari pretend there was nothing like subsidy only to turn around and indulge in same? Shouldn't d single entity doing the import incur less cost than when there were many players laying claim to subsidy funds? Also remember the difference in pump prices for both regimes cos now d end user is paying much more than he used to. Let's not turn logic on d head in d name of political affiliation and support please.

What exchange rate..... crude is purchased in dollars and since NNPC is the sole importer as alleged with refineries how do you come about the exchange rate phantom... please deceive yourself and family..

Moreover, we are just out of reccession, unemployment at its peak, cars are less utilized... the subsidy should crash and not double..

Since you are hinging on the exchange rate, wont it also increase the price of purchase at 305/barrel/dollar of crude purchase in Nigeria? Which practically nils off your analysis as crude is purchased in dollars ?

Buhari kind of subsidy is nowhere better than that of Jonathan.
If you have thousands of them reaping us off of 1billion dollars or only NNPC as a sole importer getting 2billion+, which is better to you?
Given the number of years Buhari has spent in Aso Rock till date and like a dullard that he is, Jonathan with that same number of years in the seat of power would have done better in the north east.
Scarcity of fuel was almost a thing of the past after Jonathan won the 2011 election. It was his re-election bid that sparked the fuel scarcity that almost engulfed Nigeria.
Buhari has not got the intellect to rule Nigeria, right now Nigeria is in a mess we need an urgent repairer.

Let's assume everything you typed is right, but why will buhari pay for subsidy that he said never existed?

Why are we still buying fuel at 145 naira despite the billions of naira going into subsidy?

How come fuel is not 40 naira per litre according to Tam West who is a staunch supporter of pmb?

How come no new refineries yet despite using it as a campaign instead the existing ones are not working at optimal best?

sad

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/jonathan-raised-fuel-subsidy-to-n1-9trn-from-n300bn-amaechi/amp/

If Amaechi’s allegation is correct, Jonathan’s administration spent N1.9trn per year on Subsidy. At N160/$ this was $32m or N5.2bh/day. This may be partly justified by the price differential between the selling price of circa 50 cents and the landing cost defined by the high Crude price which hovered around $100 for most of Jonathan’s time. The perception is also that there was unbridled corruption.

From Reno’s assertion, at N2.5bn/day and N305/$, the resultant cost per day is $8m. About a quarter of what Jonathan’s government spent per day. No parameter can justify the huge difference.

Notwithstanding, NNPC has not been transparent and that infers that despite Mr Integrity’s supposed stance, corruption may still be at a ridiculous proportion.

To Reno, he should speak the truth. To us, none of the two administrations has exuded requisite confidence. Ardent support for either administration leading to banters and harangue is baseless. None of the Presidents deserve the seat.

Nb:
Buhari should apologize for his previous display of ignorance on subsidy!
