Good day everyone my Visa got denied today June 19 and would like to hear your advice on what to change. Below is the transcript

V.O : Good morning
Me : Good morning
V.O : What are you going to study
Me: Biological Science at Alcorn State University
V.O : Why biology ?
Me : I lost my sister during childbirth when I was 5 and I decided I was going to become a medical doctor preferably an Ob-gyn doctor to help others so they won't go through the pain I went through
V.O : What is an Ob-gyn doctor ?
Me : An obstetrician and gynaecologist doctor
V.O : What do you intend to do with a bachelor's degree ? Do you know the steps to becoming a doctor and what will qualify you to entering medical school ?
Me: Becoming a doctor in the US requires two stages a pre-med and medical school. I have chosen Biology as my premedical course and would like to attend a medical school in Nigeria or USA
V.O : What grades will you require to attend a medical school ?
Me: A MCAT score of possibly 359 in the US and A bachelor's degree and good GPA in Nigeria
V.O : Your visa cannot be approved

I was on A presidential scholarship with a semester stipend and the V.O didn't pay attention to my I-20. I need help please I'm reapplying soon.

You told him plainly you intended to study medicine and work in the US. While this is not illegal, the VO has to do his job. He is required by law to only grant you a visa if you can prove that you have no immigrant intent. Indicating that you have researched working as a doctor in the US proves immigrant intent. Tough luck. Try again and don’t make the same mistake.

Hi everyone. I'm quite new here and would have benefited immensely if I had gone through the experiences shared here.
Was denied visa on the 13th of June. Here's a Transcript of what transpired. Pls kindly go through and advise as appropriate.

Me. Good morning ma
Vo. Good morning
Vo. Can I have ur passport and I 20
Vo. Why did you choose northeastern university
Me. No Nigerian university offers my course of choice so I decided to do a quick search on the internet which revealed quite some universities but northeastern university stood out for me primarily because it's located in Boston which is home to some of the best universities in the world and would provide a veritable platform for interfacing with students receiving training from some of the best universities in the world.
Vo. What did you study
Me. Medicine and surgery
Vo. Where
Me. Mentioned my school,
Vo. What do you do presently
Me. I'm a medical officer at a private specialist clinic
Vo. What do you plan to do on completion of studies?
Me. I hope to return to the country to set up a consultancy in regulatory affairs. There's just a single such consultancy in the entire country and I strongly believe that regulatory medicine is the future of medical practice in the country
Vo. Who will sponsor you ?
Me. My dad
Vo. What does he do?
Me. He's a member of the accreditation team of the NBTE and a Chief lecturer at a federal polytechnic
Vo. How much does he earn?
Me. Above 700k monthly
Vo. *types on her computer for sometime* sorry your application does not qualify for a visa.

Please criticize and advice cos I plan to reapply sometime in August

The VO is no fool. They know Nigeria quite well. Medical doctors are some of the best paid people in Nigeria and are rarely out of work. The only reason to leave Nigeria for a masters degree is to essentially immigrate. The VO knows that. You can’t fool them with the above story you told.

If you be street like me, Biko buy your clothes from naija. I would even suggest you reduce groceries to make space for shirts, shoes. and the likes. Quality ones though. Invest in them as that will save a lot. You end up buying same almost *3 or *4 of the prices in naija (same quality). If you feel a change of environment triggers an homonal imbalance in you, causing skin disorders and other health concern, Abeg take lots and lots of your soap, cream, etc along. Especially if you feel it may either not be available in the US market or too expensive to get. A good way to find out is to look them up on eBay, Amazon, etc (this way you can for some items, maybe not all). If you are on a prescription drug or even some prescription damatological products, Abeg carry enough follow body. Some of them may not be in the US or too expensive. Note: before you buy prescription drugs here in the US, you MUST provide that doctor’s prescription, unlike Naija when you fit rush enter chemist buy some of them. If you be fashion person, buy your wristwatches and the likes for Siemes Jeje. It’s far cheaper.
Then, carry your agba root follow body. Nobody Dey disturb you for POE if you explain what it’s meant for.
If you be person when go like to Dey send money go naija, Abeg keep an account active. Sometimes, instead of using the Apps, you may opt for your naija account and you def will have use of the account someday.

On POE, pls, pls, and pls. That’s the least thing you want to worry about if your are entering the country legally. It’s not another visa interview, so do not fret. The worse would be to be asked just one or two of the generic questions a VO can ask you and this happens on rare occasions.
Also, if it’s your first time traveling, you may want to make friends on the flight so you get directions when you get off, especially if you don’t have someone waiting to pick you up on arrival. Some of the people you ask for direction at the airports are looking out for JJC to scam and they won’t hesitate to give you a hit.
For those that may be in a hurry to catch their connecting flight or bus, Abeg, take a moment to first connect to the free WiFi in the airport. That way you can still contact people. So you don’t get to ask people questions too much. Set up free call apps like IMO, Whatsapp, etc. so you can contact someone when you touchdown.
I will update this if my brain remember anything new. I wish y’all enjoyable flying experiences.

Thanks 4 d response.can u please expatiate more on d account (wah type of acct z adviced) .

I got my visa last yr fall bt differed to ds fall, is der any question 2 prepare 4 at POE considering my 1yr wait?

I still awaits inputs from u as I've said nd oda gurus in d ous.

My opinion
I wonder who earns 700k in Nigeria as a lecturer and even if he did, it will not be enough to cover the expenses incurred in medical school.
Secondly, in the US, medicine is studied after your bachelor's. Do you have bachelor's? And i dont think schools offer medicine to international students. Leave medicine. Look for another medical/health related course to do. Afterwards, you can now slide into your med/surg.

I'm already a medical doctor. Going for masters in regulatory affairs
He earns as a lecturer and as a member of the accreditation team of the NBTE
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate.

The trouble is finding that balance to ensure you are packaged as someone who can come back to Nigeria ... Most medical student go with the path of MPH and then find a way to "match" with residency and the rest is history . MPH have limited opportunities abroad and more in developing countries so if you dont match then really the work is more available back home . This means it easy to sell a medical student going for MPH (as having a potential to return home) than regulatory affairs

the regulatory affairs in the US might not be applicable to Nigeria so it just screams like someone who not coming back which makes it harder to sell . i would not have picked that course , that been said interview is subjective from Vo to VO. another VO might not have an issue with that course .

Sorry about the delay.....
here are your flows....

1. Why biology? You gave her a reason of why you want to be a doctor not a biologist so now she knows your intent....

2. You obviously lied in the second bolded.... Really!! attend med school in Nigeria after bsc in USA, she knew you lied about coming back...

3. Getting into med school in USA isn't child's play and goes beyond good GPA Nd MCAT test scores even citizens themselves find it hard to get it after series of interviews..... C'mon MCAT of 359?? Really?? You need to do research on MCAT scores..... What are your plans if you don't get in??

V.o doesn't give a f*ck about your funding be it full ride, stamps scholar etc.... You must have to prove certain things as to why you deserve the white paper

Try search PRE MED INC on Facebook.... Ask questions there, it'll help long way.....

Refire again..... God will grace you

I think you gave the VO the opportunity to deny you on so many grounds. Firstly, you are a student and academic reasons should always supersede funding advantages (scholarships, tuition etc).
Secondly, saying family funds is indirect. You can tell the VO was curious about what you meant. Also, the reason that your uncle will pay for your tuition just because your parents assisted him at some points in his life is not a good reason. That was why she asked which uncle will be responsible for your other siblings, but you responded that you are the last child. You could have said something like they are working or got their lives together etc..

Read responses from other students on here and learn from their responses to some of the questions. I believe that should help you. Also, find a concrete reason for changing the school. Otherwise, you are just dashing the embassy money.

Good Luck
