Danielaz5: You told him plainly you intended to study medicine and work in the US. While this is not illegal, the VO has to do his job. He is required by law to only grant you a visa if you can prove that you have no immigrant intent. Indicating that you have researched working as a doctor in the US proves immigrant intent. Tough luck. Try again and don’t make the same mistake. 1 Like |

Nempi: The VO is no fool. They know Nigeria quite well. Medical doctors are some of the best paid people in Nigeria and are rarely out of work. The only reason to leave Nigeria for a masters degree is to essentially immigrate. The VO knows that. You can’t fool them with the above story you told. 5 Likes |

Nempi: The trouble is finding that balance to ensure you are packaged as someone who can come back to Nigeria ... Most medical student go with the path of MPH and then find a way to "match" with residency and the rest is history . MPH have limited opportunities abroad and more in developing countries so if you dont match then really the work is more available back home . This means it easy to sell a medical student going for MPH (as having a potential to return home) than regulatory affairs the regulatory affairs in the US might not be applicable to Nigeria so it just screams like someone who not coming back which makes it harder to sell . i would not have picked that course , that been said interview is subjective from Vo to VO. another VO might not have an issue with that course . |

I had my interview today and was denied...I don’t know where I went wrong. Me- Good morning VO- pass me your I 20 and passport VO- where are you going to? Me- North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina for my masters in( VO cuts in) VO- what are you going for? Me- My Masters Degree in History VO- how did you get this assistantship? Me- The department’s Chair was impressed with my GRE, my transcript, statement of purpose and essay. VO- so why did you change course and school ? Me- sorry? I didn’t get that. VO- the last time you were here you were wanted to go to Arcadia so why change to NCCU? Me- Arcadia gave me partial scholarship while NCCU gave me the full ride and in NCCU, I get to minor in courses related to Peace and Conflict Resolution. VO- so who would pay for other expenses Me- I have family funds VO-which family? Me- My Uncle VO- what does he do? Me - he works with the Kwara state government, at the Niger River Basin. VO- where does he live? Me- Kwara state She looks at the I 20 for a while then drops it She asked for bank statement which I gave to her She stared at it for a while , typed somethings ... In my mind I was just praying , then she asked VO- why is your Uncle paying Me- my parents sent his to school so this is more like a more thank you and he has the money VO- how many siblings do you have ? Me- 5 VO- which Uncle would be paying for them? Me- I am the last child VO - what’s the name of your Uncle Me- I said his name Then she picked up the I 20 again .... looked at it again and asked VO- are you married? Me- NO I’m not VO- do you have children? Me - No I don’t Then she finally said I’m sorry you are not found eligible at this time. Did I do anything wrong ... please help me out here because I’m still dumbfounded. Cc LagosismyHome theamerican TWoods Imperiouxx Ezeigbo1ofimo Sorelee 2 Likes |

Danielaz5:Sorry about the delay..... here are your flows.... 1. Why biology? You gave her a reason of why you want to be a doctor not a biologist so now she knows your intent.... 2. You obviously lied in the second bolded.... Really!! attend med school in Nigeria after bsc in USA, she knew you lied about coming back... 3. Getting into med school in USA isn't child's play and goes beyond good GPA Nd MCAT test scores even citizens themselves find it hard to get it after series of interviews..... C'mon MCAT of 359?? Really?? You need to do research on MCAT scores..... What are your plans if you don't get in?? V.o doesn't give a f*ck about your funding be it full ride, stamps scholar etc.... You must have to prove certain things as to why you deserve the white paper Try search PRE MED INC on Facebook.... Ask questions there, it'll help long way..... Refire again..... God will grace you 1 Like |

Guys. I was given a white paper today. Requesting recent bank statements. My passport was also returned to be sent with the documents. Should I be worried? |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by LagosismyHome(f): 10:23am On Jun 20, 2018 |
Nempi: it might and it might not ....... The whole process can be subjective . Same way another VO would be absolutely fine with what you have . I dont really know what to say , you might want to try one more time with what you have |

lalahhh: I think you gave the VO the opportunity to deny you on so many grounds. Firstly, you are a student and academic reasons should always supersede funding advantages (scholarships, tuition etc). Secondly, saying family funds is indirect. You can tell the VO was curious about what you meant. Also, the reason that your uncle will pay for your tuition just because your parents assisted him at some points in his life is not a good reason. That was why she asked which uncle will be responsible for your other siblings, but you responded that you are the last child. You could have said something like they are working or got their lives together etc.. Read responses from other students on here and learn from their responses to some of the questions. I believe that should help you. Also, find a concrete reason for changing the school. Otherwise, you are just dashing the embassy money. Good Luck 1 Like |
