Why USA?
US academic standard is of high reputation, also Additive manufacturing, my major reason for this degree is not offered in any Nigerian institution.. And u know also, a US degree is so adorable here in 9ja - - it's like an icing on one's resume.

So why Manufacturing engineering - MFGE?
MFGE as part of what my UG program and present job entails will place me on a more competitive pedestal for a production engineering job at companies like Innoson, PZ Cussons etc. It will also afford me with enough qualification to harness the manufacturing capacity of Nigeria - I hope to start up a 3D printing service after grabbing credible experiences from this program and subsequent jobs.

How did you hear about Texas State University San Marcos?
My first knowledge about TXST was from Scientific America where I learnt about an ongoing project in Additive Manufacturing.


Okay, you chose 3 uni what are their similarities?
Their course synopses all fit into my interests, profile and budget.. They are all located at temperate region of the US so there won't be no need trying to acclimatize to a new weather condition.

(Auburn University Alabama, Florida international university Miami, Texas state university San Marcos)


And why Texas over them?
Okay, this actually cos I got info about them from a credible source, which is also about a project that's in line with my career goal.
Also, Dr. Heping Chen who'd be my instructor in additive manufacturing is one the facilitators of a 3D printed house in Austin, Texas - - the first in the US. These are fascinating facts to me

What's your career goal?
To be a production specialist, a consultant who'll be knowledgeable enough to proffer solutions to problems across all domains in the manufacturing field..
I wish to own a 3D printing service that'll be known across 9ja for for it's educative and economic impact.

I hope these things ain't generic.


What's your uncle's occupation?
He works as a Depot representative for NNPC, and also a mechanized farmer by inheritance

Why will ur UNCLE spend so much on your studies?
Mum and uncle are the only siblings for each other. Also, he's in care of the family's property cos he's the sole heir to grandpa's enormous farmland - - so spending a little outta the surfeit for my education won't be a burden.

Its ETSU. its the exorbitant hostel fee and co that made it so high. Tuition is 12k + 12k (scholarship). What about my passport and I20. I ll need them to reapply right?

Your passport and i20 will be sent to the dhl address you chose. You don't have to panic. If its successful, you will receive your passport stamped. If not, you will still receive your passport. Give it 2 to 3 working days.

Good day house! I need your advice. I was offered PhD admissions in Chemical Engineering with no funding at University of Kansas. I have the fee for at least a year, I was told my case will be evaluated after a semestre with them. Will it be easy for me to get a Visa with no funding because most VO are used to seeing PhD admissions with funding.

My question to you is.. because of the norms, you wont apply for Visa? Go with what you have and hope for the best. However, If I were you I won't take the offer because Phd is stressful enough to now add the constant thought of finances. What is your profile like?

I would have applied for both but I can only make only one application at a time. I am confused on which has the higher probability of getting me admitted with full funding. Please kindly give your views on the matter. Here are my grades:

GRE- 151(V), 158(Q)

I think you gave the VO the opportunity to deny you on so many grounds. Firstly, you are a student and academic reasons should always supersede funding advantages (scholarships, tuition etc).
Secondly, saying family funds is indirect. You can tell the VO was curious about what you meant. Also, the reason that your uncle will pay for your tuition just because your parents assisted him at some points in his life is not a good reason. That was why she asked which uncle will be responsible for your other siblings, but you responded that you are the last child. You could have said something like they are working or got their lives together etc..

Read responses from other students on here and learn from their responses to some of the questions. I believe that should help you. Also, find a concrete reason for changing the school. Otherwise, you are just dashing the embassy money.

Please, do not take that offer. I was almost in that shoe last Fall not until I made the school realize I wouldn't be accepting the admission offer. PhD program, it's like a paid job in the US, please wait for another semester and get a good admission with another school.

I applied to LSU, UNH, UAH, U of Arkansas Fayetville. Only UAK and Univ Kansas offered me admissions but with no funding. I carefully chose these schools according to my profile and how am I sure I will get into any if I should go for another schools next Fall. I am thinking things could change after a semestre according to the condition of the offer. I guess they want to be sure I am a good fit after a semestre with them. Waiting for another Fall is like eternity because I have been on this for the past two years now.
