PDP Sends Delegates To DSS Over Arrest Of Senator Abaribe, Suswam by Ecstasy154(m): 10:59am On Jun 23, 2018 |
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has sent a delegation to the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawan Daura, over the arrest of the senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe. It was gathered that the delegates comprised top leaders of the party and some state governors. Secondus, who confirmed the meeting of the delegates with DG of the DSS, however, refused to give details of those in the delegation and issues slated for discussion. He told Punch, “We have sent a delegation comprising our governors to the DG of DSS over the spate of arrests of our members. “Yesterday, they picked up a former Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam, and today, they arrested Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. We can’t reach them and even their loyalists can’t reach them. “Now, the clampdown has indeed started. But how many of our members are they going to arrest, just because they (the government and the ruling party) are afraid of losing the (2019 presidential) election? “Maybe they will arrest all of us and put us into jail. Nigerians are watching and the international community is also watching.” Meanwhile, DSS is yet to release a statement on why Senator Abaribe was arrested yesterday. DAILY POST reports that Abaribe was arrested in Abuja on Friday at a popular hotel located at Maitama District. http://dailypost.ng/2018/06/23/pdp-sends-delegates-dss-arrest-senator-abaribe-suswam/ 3 Likes

The DSS has the mandate to make arrests on issues relating to national security. They should be served Biscuit and Tea and shown the way back to the car park. 39 Likes 4 Shares |

GavelSlam: This is a country practicing democracy. They can't just arrest anybody without explanations. The accused may be wrong or right, but the public deserves to know why they are arrested. It would be sad for you and others to politicize the issue. 101 Likes 7 Shares |

MrPolitics: Is that why they should send delegates as if it was a Village gathering? Fact is that, PDP now populated by ipob miscreants are fast turning to a comedy party with infantile reactions to important issues of governance. 9 Likes 1 Share |

GavelSlam: You know not everyone that is standing for justice and equity is a wailer? FBI is also in the business of national security as well as other agencies in democratic countries. They would not arrest anybody talkless of a sitting senator without explanation. They don't need to go into full details but a reason is necessary. If you want to engage in partisan wars over 2 parties that continue to enslave Nigerians, you can just stop replying me 50 Likes 1 Share |

CilicMarin: I couldn't care less about PDP's delegates although it is only normal for friends and associates to stand up for their person who they feel has been unjustly arrested. The DSS just need tell us why and continue their investigation. It is even more sad that our DSS has no official spokesperson. It means there's no one to explain their actions, right or wrong to the people that they're meant to be protecting 16 Likes |

Anyone that has done or is about doing anything that could threaten the security of the country should be picked up, including the sponsors of the killer herdsmen. The DSS should not be seen to have been cowed by any ethno-religious and political narratives. What Nigerians should be clamoring for is the prompt prosecution of such arrested people. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

MrPolitics: It's been less than 24 hours since he was picked up. The DSS can keep him.even beyond that without any public announcement depending on the weight of the perceived crime. The DSS would make a comment at the appropriate time. The politicians should be shown the way out. Nobody interferes in the cause of their own duties. 7 Likes 1 Share |

No sane living Nigerian trusts the Police Force, reason is they have been bastardized and condemned because they couldn't stand for the truth when it mattered most. I pray the DSS doesn't drop to that level. Being partisan or playing politics or cowing opposition during election period doesn't make sense. The DSS rating dropped abysmally under Jonathan and with Lawan Daura (a Buhari kinsman) at the helm of affairs, no matter what the DSS does now will be viewed as an attempt to help Buhari who has never been a nationalist. In all, whatever the outcome is, Buhari has further reduced the rating of DSS by appointing Lawan Daura. The worst set of people lead Nigeria while the best will always show this I DONT CARE ATTITUDE. 6 Likes |
