OP, Nigerians don't buy for functionality. We buy for show off.

Exactly.

Sometimes I believe these debates are necessary to an extent. I remember when my friend was a member here having sleepless nights trying to educate fellow users on the benefits of netflix subscriptions. Let me not even start with the Uber debate he had here.
It took only a few months before Nigerians, especially nairalanders, warmed up to both concepts.

Some people here talk rubbish but silently take notes when coming across new ideas. If OP didn't create this topic I'm sure some people wouldn't know a thing like 4K entertainment exists.

very true.
I'm educating myself reading the various comments

You are underestimating Nigerians. I use a 4K with Netflix and I’m not the only one.

There are also lots of 4K videos on YouTube which I can stream from my YouTube app.

The fact that you subscribe for 1gb does not mean everyone else does same. I was recently amazed at the number of Nigerians who have ditched dstv for Netflix, many who haven’t are limited by their TV’s capabilities.

So, maybe you should look deeper, before casting ill thought aspersions.

Buy the TV you can afford and move on, don't hate on people's TV even if they don't maximize on its capabilities, it is somewhat sadistic.

The op even forgot that some high end phones now record 4K videos (Galaxy S8 and the likes). Just record events with your 4K enabled camera, play on your 4K TV and blow your mind away!

Trust me, you will never spend N1 on Nigerian videographers again. Not one in the whole country can give you the kind of quality you're getting!

Na poor man dey say beer bitter.

After I bought my tv, I threw all other cables away. The dstv now is for my daughter’s cartoons, yet she wants the 4K cartoons on YouTube.

People want to buy tv every year, mine will confidently last 10 years and still cope with futuristics innovations.

thanks bro.. I don't think there'd be anything stopping me from getting a 4k smart TV when the money to buy it comes.. I don't give a damn about anybody's analysis.

Bossman:
Have to agree. Even here in the US, the cable tv providers have very few 4k content. And one is required to upgrade to their latest cable boxes in order to be able to receive 4k. Unlimited internet data, which rarely exists in Nigeria, is a must as well. Pretty much every Home has unlimited internet here, so that limitation does not exist.

So unless you have unlimited internet and a provider that transmits 4k content, having a 4k tv there in Nigeria, a country where most people still access the internet via their mobile phones, makes no sense.

hey boss man.. what's up with you.. quite an age

I have 6 year old FhD TV and I also have a 4k TV I bought early 2017.

The difference is very clear when I watch Netflix, Amazon video, dstv HD channel or you tube HD on both.

I use smile for now and soon upgrading to Fibre Optic.

OP, your analysis is a bit good but skewed in part. Now, 4k tv is the in thing. I would agree with you that some may be wasting money on it. A balanced analysis should let people know what 4k tv is all about - the good & drawbacks. And inform people about the knowledge of their budget b4 going for 4k tv.
Research has shown that HD t.v. would still be around for some time. Truth be told, 4k tchnology is phasing out hd. have you discovered the prices of hd t.v. dropped drastically? 4k has come to stay. Research has also shown many broadcasting network ( digital and online) are already planing to beam their programs on 4k platform from 2019. Many video games are already into it. Long story short.

If you have the cash and you are about to start having home appliances like tvs and the likes, go for the latest technology to avoid re buying same things in a couple of years. If you already have hd, don't be in a hurry to go for a 4k t.v. lets I forget, 4k tvs can maximally be enjoyed when you buy from 50" TV of it and above. So, look at your financial budget, do a good research ( online and offline) about what you want to buy b4 making your decision about buying 4k television.
