A man has been given a reason to literally smile again after a huge tumor on his face was successful removed. According to reports, the man was restricted from doing certain things like smiling and shouting due to the huge growth on lower jaw. The man after undergoing the surgery - can now smile at ease without feeling any pain. It was revealed that the man couldn't contain his excitement after the operation as he thanked the medical team for 'giving him his life back'.. Facilities and expertise required for doing this type of surgeries are available in Nigeria. They are often performed by maxillofacial surgeons, a specialty under dentistry. Our health system is poor but not completely in shambles. 2 Likes |

Most people are not aware that this kind of operation is usually performed by dentists (oral and maxillofacial surgeons).. The lay person thinks dentistry is all about tooth extraction, scaling and polishing etc. I think people should be enlightened by well meaning dental surgeons so that they can know what procedures are readily performed by dentists and where to get such services. The average Nigerian might think there are no specialistbfor this kind of surgery in Nigeria. 2 Likes |
