Why can't Nigerian be independent? You go to a new place and the next thing is "I want to meet Nigerians" and these same people will be the ones complaining that Nigerians abroad are bad. 1 Like |

I have a friend who had a bad experience that is why I made that statement. She came looking for Nigerians. When she found them they were like her brothers and sisters and I know how lonely it can be in a different country. But what Nigerians did to her was not fair at all. I feel so sorry for her. I am sorry if i sound harsh but that is what happens most times. |

Sorry to hear that about your friend. hope all is going well for them. that is true, u have to becareful with whom you meet. When u are in a foreign land u have to to be quick and alert or else those around you even those u "trust" will take you for granted bcuz u may appear weak. |
Re: Nigerians In Toronto? by sophy09: 5:18pm On Oct 07, 2010 |
Exactly! I mean she just wanted to feel at home with Nigerians. She wanted nothing from them but just kinship. I mean when she told me what happened, i felt really sorry. She feeds and shelter these people who have been around so long before she arrived. I mean one just have to be careful with who you hang around with and be careful not to review your secret. |
Re: Nigerians In Toronto? by Laajman(m): 5:55pm On Oct 07, 2010 |
There are two sides to this coin: 1. You don't want to live abroad, and all the people you relate with are Nigerians. That's like living in an "ethnic silo". Its a terrible idea to want "kinship" with only Nigerians. Might as well stay back in Nigeria. 2. Its great to meet with Nigerians from time to time. Was at the Oct 1 party last friday, and it felt good to be among many of my peeps again. I think the main problem is naturally Nigerians are cautious when they meet Nigerians here- owing to many funny tales. I've come across many Nigerians in my time here. If anyone is acting funny, I'd just bone the person. Its not like I'm asking you for favours or something. More importantly, like Sophy09 mentioned- its a good way to network. These indians + chinese tend to help themselves. Why shouldnt we? |
Re: Nigerians In Toronto? by sophy09: 6:05pm On Oct 07, 2010 |
Well most Nigerians are not always willing to assist their fellow Nigerians. Rather the look for ways in which you can be of assistance to them then they dismiss you like you are not important. It is a good way to network but the best thing is to know your limit with them. Other Africans are always assisting their fellow people. I just the traits are with some and not all. |
Re: Nigerians In Toronto? by naijadiva2(f): 10:25pm On Oct 07, 2010 |
sophy09: I wouldn't say that. Maybe where u are, but where i am, nigerians are very helpful to each other. true u have the not so good ones, but for the most part nigerians here have been good. As for the other africans, they usually integrate well with the nigerians because we are so homely. Some africans here dont get along with each other(not gonna say who) but love nigerians. So I would pass such judgement bcuz your friend had a bad experience. But atleast now, she can learn from it and know who to trust. 1 Like |

@Delta, yes I am! but now you made me feel mesirable , and the fact is, it will be complicated somehow to get admission from university directly I mean I can get an admission from canadian university but not as easy as institution is and the plan is, as soon as I be there (spend about 2+3 monthes in the english centre) I can find any school easly on my own choise , have I made my self clear? beside my course will begin on july , now it's time to hear from you @delta, why did you said I save the money kindly (don't drive me crazy again ) thank you shilling for the advice (I'm trying to explain something here) you guys are the best, |
Re: Nigerians In Toronto? by Delta007(m): 3:39am On Apr 27, 2011 |
You are better of trying for a visitor's visa than a study permit to study english in Canada. Official language in Nigeria is English and any consul will easily see what you are trying to do. If you cannot get admission directly from Nigeria, maybe you should consider other options. Truth is, if you do not bring any tangible skills to the table, it's not worth it living in the West. That's just my opinion. subzeroamd: |

ok so i read about you coming to study english in canada, the consuls are funny and since our official language is english in nigeria, u might be asked bunch of questions. and try and come closer to your resumption date.. coming earlier would raise more suspicions. speaking from my experience. i came 4 months earlier and i was asked too many questions. |
