Messi had only 4 goals at 2014 world cup behind Muller and James Rodriguez. Messi won the golden ball in 2014, he was the best player in that tournament.

Anybody that watched 2014 world cup will admit without sentiments that Messi was not the best player in that tournament.
He didn't deserve that award.

His 4 goals came in group stage against Nigeria, Bosnia and Iran.

He didn't register a single goal in knockout stage.

His stat after group stage was
O goals
O assist

But they gave him the award for marketing reasons.
Maradona, a fellow Argentine slammed FIFA and admited that Messi was not the best player.

Muller deserved the award more than Messi.

So the golden ball in 2014 na initial gra gra.
We all know the truth.

Ronaldo would be 37 by then, and Messi would be 35.

It's more likely that Messi features in the next World Cup, if he chooses not to retire from international football. We've seen players that are 40+ play in the World Cup - Egypt's goalie for example (he is 45 years old).
That's a good answer, Ronaldo and Messi are both carrying their teams at the moment, in 4 years time probably, Ronaldo will now be carried by his team, his inclusion in the Portuguese squad will just be out of nostalgia and respect for what he has achieved for Portugal over the years rather than on merit. Argentina might be more dependent on Messi, there's no forthcoming capable replacement so Messi will still be carrying the team if he still wants to be part of the Argentinian national team.

Neymar will not win Balon dor even if he wins world cup.

Half season with PSG and world cup is not enough, in all fairness.

If Brazil win WC, it will be a collective effort and Coutinho is currently their best player at the tournament not Neymar.

Neymar should try and get golden ball first along with world cup.

Why didn't Xavi and Iniesta win Balon dor in 2010 even tho they won world cup

Why didn't a German player win Balon dor in 2014

You think world cup is the ultimate price for Balon dor this year

There's gotta be more than just that trophy.

U wan make we bet am?

Yo Egbon dumbfuck. Was life easier back then than now? How many of Pele's matches did you watch? Because it has been ingrained and reiterated in your subconscious by the media you have chosen to fling your own noggins out and actually think. Pele shone in his life time because football was just developing during his time. It was already developed by the time Maradona was shining. Now it is established, everybody wants to be a footballer, too many raw talents to many exceptional players. During the time of Pele you couldn't say the same. Why won't he then shine? Was there anyone to compete with him. You just open mouth and shout Pele is the greatest of all times. Did you in person watch him play, did you watch him play like you are opportuned to watch Messi, Ronalado,Ronaldiho, and other great players play. You just open mouth and shout indomie generation. Sometimes an indomie generation sef can be wiser than an agbaya.
Pele is the king of Football. No argument. Only Messi and Ronaldo can fit into that Brazilian side of the 70's . I am talking about a team filled with men. And you should also know that Pele played and scored in a world cup final at the tender age of 17. So learn how to argue with facts.

Penaldo foresee this that was why he almost cried when Aspas scored spain 2nd goal, because he was hoping on meeting Russia instead, he knows Godin na his boss, out of their 20 meetings at laliga, Godin kept him quite with no goal for 14 times

Goal keepers have a longer career span than attackers. The even reach the prime in their late 20s unlike attackers who usually peak at 24 or 25(mid20s)

Is it the number of nations or the of games or the quality of the games?
The world cup was more difficult to win back then because the footballs were heavier, the boots were heavier, the jerseys were heavier, the strikers were not properly protected by the referees and the defenders could back pass to their goalkeepers all they wanted and the keeper could catch the back passes with his hands because it was not illegal in those days
I hope you are aware that substitutions were restricted to one player per team unlike the three that are allowed today?
And the referees them had no VAR to help them take decisions. I am all for modernization but I believe football is easier nowadays.
My Point is that the world cup is more difficult now because there are more footballers in the global space and more talented ones at that. The quality of the games are also top notch, that's why we see Peru play tantalizing football, South Korea beating Germany and Morocco almost beating Spain. There are more talented footballers in the 21st century than in the time of Pele.
Pele would be outstanding today if he played in our time, but he would have greater competition, that's my point.

I don't understand the stuff I'm seeing on here. When ddyu guys start watching football abeg? Ronaldo didn't make it out if group stages in 2014. Messi reached the FINAL! If that's not a clear gap I don't know what is. Club football will always get the nod ahead of WC oga. Iniesta won WC 2010, was Spain's best player by a mile, and still didn't win it. So what's ya point? What exactly has Neymar achieved on club level?

Currently Neymar isn't even Brazil's beat player sef. You guys should stop watching back of TV biko
it's definitely coutinho on current form

1000 goals he scored against farmers in Brazil league. HIS official goals stands at 782.maradona was an attacking midfielder you don't expect him to have more goals than pele

Its a thing of experience and confidence. At that age, keepers tend to have mastered their art. If you doubt take a survey of most goal keepers in the EPL.

maradona is a far far better footballer than Pele , in the first world cup Pele won he wasn't evn their best player , he wasn't evn a real starter then though he was 17 , in the second world cup garrincha who many in Brazil consider to be better than him was the best player then, that Brazilian team had many great players like revillino, garrincha Nd co Nd would have probably won the cup without Pele , in the third tournament he played well . I don't even know y that dude is considered the greatest player when many in Brazil still doubt if he was better than garrincha .maradona,Messi, Ronaldo de Lima ,Ronaldo are all better than Pele IMO.

What are you saying ? Football was more difficult in the Times of pele and Maradona? The times of maradona maybe but the Times of Pele never. How can someone say football was difficult in the Times when there weren't so many rules, where the number of people dreaming to be footballers where low. As a matter of fuckin fact. Pele and Maradona especially Pele were lucky to have been playing when there where mostly dummies in football. Take a look at some old clips of Pele, and you'll see the nigga was lucky to be around a lot of dummies playing at the time. Why wouldn't he shine? Even Maradona had it harder than Pele did. History most likely told you Pele was great not like you watched most of his games. Football is very much difficult in these times than it was back then. Who was competing with Pele when he shone? Who was competing with Maradona back in the Times ? Now there's a hot debate between Messi and Ronaldo. Even after them the upcoming youngings already have competitors they would be compared with. So football was never difficult then than it is now!
they played at there own time.. No body was a dummy.. Why pele nd maradonna shun.. Messi nd Ronaldo same tin.. Is to tell u that they er born talented
