wildcatter23: Nope but many of these trucks are in bad shape yet they use them to convey petroleum products. If the truck is in a bad shape then the owner can be held liable. The truck couldn't climb up the slope and had no brakes to stop it from rolling back. That is a truck in a pretty bad shape yet the owner put it on the highway. |

EnEnPeecee: I don't know how u people reason. Yes it can't bring the dead back to life but it can sure prevent suck from happening again if implemented well. |

EnEnPeecee:It won't bring back the dead but it will go a long way in preventing the same thing from happening again by serving as deterrent to others. But there is no way the govt can win against the owner of the truck unless they can prove the truck was defective and he knowingly used it to transport fuel. It's more like media propaganda to appease the populace. |

wildcatter23: He will be tried because he allowed and owns a vehicle which is dangerous to human lives to ply the road without carrying out necessary tests to check it's road worthiness. The trial is also needed to compel the owner to pay compensation to all the victims. |

wirinet: Yes, this is the norm. Except it can be proven that the owners carried out the needed requirements to ensure the safety of the vehicle at the occurrence of the accident. |

wirinet: What is the worst that can happen in an okada accident? Death, disability of two, minor property damage Scale this from to car, jeep, pickup, truck, truck with container Now we are at fuel tanker, a moving bomb. The potential to kill and main a hundred, and cause massive property damage. If this was a major marketer , it would be grounds to sack the ceo, head of safety, fleet manager just for starters. |

Afam4eva: There was an investigative report. They found out that the truck head was purchased in Texas and was manufactured to carry 14000tons or sthn, but they attached it to s tanker in Nigeria, carrying 34,000tons. These are not the accurate weights, but they wrote the right weights in their report. It was almost double. So yeah, the owner is culpable. He should prove his innocence in court. 1 Like |

DavidEsq: The MOT will find a way, even if it means bending the judicial process to make someone suffer for that incident. and no authority will come out to accept irresponsibility on their part, rather they'll blame and probably jail the driver. that's the sad situation of almost every system in Nigeria, it's been flawed |

nonye6194:Quite true, but it wld be a lame effort. They are only put up a good fight if they hire out the suit to a private legal practitioner but even at that, a good claimant who knows the rigours of negligence wld weave his way tru. Court room is a beautiful arena if the laws are at ur finger tips. |
