Thank you buhari. We don't want Nigeria to be flooded with commodity from others African countries that thinks Nigeria is just an opportunistic way to short cort success. Especially south Africa. Why is she signing on the day of the ceremony? Hoping Nigeria will change her mind? No way.
But is shows Nigeria is admitting it has nothing to offer other countries aside crude oil & Nollywood films.

If Nigeria had electricity and proper industries, our large population and talent pool should mean cheaper products that can flood other African countries. Procter & Gamble that opened last year in Agbara is about to close now. What can we export to bring in money?

We are simply in a position of weakness. USA/Trump can make nyanga because their internal market is massive due to a large wealthy population.
Our population is large but about 70% live only on $1 per day.

Isn't it time to prop up our local industries to take over markets in those other countries?

Deal that will benefit Nigerians more than any African country buhari will not sign. He is more interested in a deal for Fulanis from other African countries that will give them access to lands in the middle belt. Nigeria is a country that kills its citizen, the country is an enemy of progress. angry

The way Nigeria is now, if Oyibo bring ship to start shipping people to the Europe/America for slave trade, people will be struggling to enter.

I believe buhari is the worst leader in the world, but a free trade agreement is not a good deal for us.

We don't have power, or infrastructure as a selling point.

Our greatest strength is our market size, and we can't allow Chinese companies in Ethiopia, and European firms in North Africa to flood our country with cheap goods.

Nigeria should do the gritty hard work of development on its own.

It is just a shame the president is not smart enough.

i'm not a fan of buhari, but for this one alone i'll give him credit for abstaining. This deal will not benefit us now as we are not yet at that level. May be in the future, when we have fixed issues that makes our local products uncompetitive due to the high cost of production.

Competition drives innovation. Our local industry is not thriving because we are practicing a monopolistic economy and most of the time it's nepotism, everyman wants to favour his tribesmen. This deal will create room for a competitive economy.

For someone like me who is finding it difficult to do business in Nigeria i would definitely love to try other African countries. This deal will make it easier too
No, it won't create room for any competitive economy. Do more research and read the DETAILS of the deal, it like an economic colonalisation.

Thanks to Akinwunmi Adesina and Olusegun Aganga, they started the protest against Nigeria signing it.

With a population of 180 million and the untapped potential to be Africa first mega economy Nigeria was naturally poised to be the greatest beneficiary of this free trade pact but our anachrone president is more interested in reenacting and chasing some 18th century vision of uthman Danfodio .... this is the sad reality ..At this stage Nigeria should be planning on who to conquer the entire African economy and not planning on how to conquer small middlebet belt tribes in the name of some archaic religious script

What are you protecting?

This is an opportunity for this country to access over 1.5 billion consumer market, but the dullard is too dull to notice.

Protectionism against western companies is understandable but not against a poorly developed African manufacturing sector.

Tell me an African country whose foreign sector is a threat to our domestic sector? Which indigenous African products can rival ours?

This is an opportunity to send our locally manufactured products to other African countries yet we fumbled.

What makes you think South Africa rushed to sign that?

That’s too much free trade Biko. All these African countries that let any toxic thing come in from Europe and Asia. They need to first deal with border porosity and standard of goods before they talk about free trade. We also have enough insecurity in our country to deal with. Not to talk of a potential bunch of terrorists using Morocco and Egypt and Mali as a gateway. I am glad we didn’t sign.

What Africa needs is Fair Trade and not Free Trade.

Fair Trade is a Trade in which Protectionism and Free Trade are balanced.

I won't advice any country to subscribe to free trade.

Is that not the reality?

We don’t have anything to offer and we have not had anything to offer for over 30years. We use the money we get from crude oil to buy everything we need. We can’t even produce what we consume.

PMB now came and ban most of these things from importation that we should start producing locally people are now against him.
The little money we get from crude oil that is not enough to sustain our overbloated population we were using it to import.

Now some people have come up with a strategy again to make nigeria a dumping ground for foreign products and PMB has once again refused.

PMB by far has the best policies that puts Nigeria first in anything. The only shortcoming is the security issue.

Signing such document will only mean death for our local industries especially with all this Francophone countries that only serves as transfer destinations for French products.

They will just be transferring all products imported from France directly into nigeria the only country that has the population to buy.

Signing such an agreement will never beenefit us especially now that we don’t produce enough products to consume let alone export.

We won’t have anything to export we will only be using our oil money to import goods thereby killing our local industries.

This is not the type of competition nigeria needs. This will be an unhealthy competition because the likes of francophone countries don’t produce anything. They only import from France and Belgium only to look for the economy where they will dump it.

So in essence, Nigerian products will not be competing with other African products but European products indirectly.

South African products are also superior to Nigeria’s so there’s hardly anything we can send to them to buy. Even with tariffs and all, Nigerians will still prefer South African or Europe produced products(francophone). If you now remove the tariffs, It will only be a one way traffic.
You are as dumb as Buhari.

AU is a community of 55 nations not Nigeria and South Africa.

Buhari just cost us a 1.2 billion consumer market.

If SA bests us in certain goods, can they best us in Agricultural products?

Signing such agreement is signing free trade with the whole world cos all this francophone countries don’t produce anything they only repackage European and Asian goods only to find a dumping ground for it and which country has the largest population with enough purchasing power than nigeria.

Kindly mention 1 comodity that Nigeria has attained self reliance on outsite oil. We import virtually every thing. Thus, we need to make money from import duty.
