She obviously knows what she's saying, the country is a mad house for the down-trodden and the lower middle class only the rich and wealthy can gain some respite from settling here for obvious reasons. The rest of us can only thank God if we see another sun rise we basically face 1000 ways to die everyday, in light of all the vices and chaos in the land....

Above all we can only thank God for the gift of life because with life comes hope. smiley

khalids:

daz a simple stuvz
1) Here is where they steal the money and the law will not be able to touch them

do you know where the USD100s of billions in gold that Khaddafi had in Libya vanished to?! what about the billions the Abachas and Mobutus stole that disappeared in foreign banks? yep exactly...keep deceiving yourself while people in the west openly steal in front of your own very eyes. criminals in the west are doing just the same.

2) This is the only place they can get away with their illegal activities (because a large proportion of them did not make their money legally)

so you actually think there are no illegal activities in the west?! do you really think that Bernard Madof is the only fraudster in the west?!

3) A lot of our rich folk make their money from crime/criminal activities

educate yourself on the history of the US government and the CIA. during the cocaine craze of the 80/90s, they openly shipped tons of cocaine to the US, for their own personal agenda.....and how they are in Afghanistan (world's leading illicit opium producer) for decades while deceiving gullible people like yourself that they are there for democracy.

4) A lot of them have criminal cases abroad

in the west, A) you can have a criminal case, just by shaking your gf too hard....and B) every Wale, Taiwo and Segun has a criminal case, let alone rich people....just ask 50cent!

5) This is the one major place they can enjoy certain priviledges

like what exactly?!

Some of the responses on this thread made me chuckle. Majority of you will bribe, cheat and steal etc as well if opportunity presented itself where you would be in a influential position. Weren't some of these "Rich" folk young like you at some point? Didn't some of them come from poor backgrounds initially, did their humble beginnings stop them?

My biggest issue with Nigeria was the mentality. it's a dog eats dog world. Too much envy and desperation. However there are some fantastic, lovely and God-fearing people in that country and as long as such people exist...Nigeria is worth it. This coming from someone who was born and bred abroad. Having lived in Nigeria for just over a year I sympathize with her frustrations. She was probably just having a bad day when she made that post.

Because the corrupt system here enables them to amass insane amounts of money at our expense. No matter how dysfunctional a society is, there are people benefiting from that dysfunctionality. There are people benefiting from the dysfunctionality in Haiti. They stay there and make their money. But when they need to go somewhere sane and chill they jet off to London and New York. They don't go to Nike Lake or Oshogbo.

It is like a hot stuffy kitchen. You stay there to prepare your meals; but you don't want to stay there and eat them.

may i ask... what stops you from doing the exact same thing?!?! or better yet, is that not what everyone is doing in Nigeria (from bread salesman to pure water seller)?

Yes, but you don't run away from your problems. You stay and solve it, so that your country also becomes a place where others want to come. Running away is defeatists. More so, happiness and success are not guaranteed in America, considering you'll be discriminated against anyway.

You'll be shocked at how many Nigerians who live abroad are depressed, have low self-esteem from their slave-type jobs, and are not doing well financially, though they create a fake image to people back home.

Besides, should we even use Lagos to judge living in Nigeria? Nigerians know Lagos is hell-hole anyway; the place is over-densely populated with very poor people, super dirty, and highly polluted.

Ikeja Electricity has not given light since on Sunday. What a country. They have not told us anything. Very bad customer service. Very rude staff. Some times I feel like taking over the government. If you see the state of roads in our area in this raining season, you will cry.

You can be sure she is a fool but you can't be sure she is Nigerian (several generations deep). There's a woman in Peckham who regularly reported Nigerians to authorities. She particularly picked on business owned by Yourobas and claimed she is Calabar (sometimes Igbo). However, the woman is not actually Nigerian, she is from Ghana but grew up in Nigeria.

An individual born in UK has all thire details on record not so Nigeria. Many born in Nigeria have no evidence to prove this. Nigeria needs to start creating and keeping records.

I understand your frustrations. Your need to leave Nigeria is because you haven't lived outside the country before. It's really understandable. But know that not everyone that would like to leave a country can leave. Some of us will be stuck here, no matter what. Maybe you should try trekking to Libya, since you must leave.....

rich people do the above ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD...get your facts right!

that's not true

Madoff is in prison for the scam he pulled

Jordan Belford was locked up for the scam he pulled

You can hit your maid and mess them up in that accursed zoo called Nigeria but if you try it elsewhere, and she can prove that you abused her, you are done for

In America a lot id billionaires find loop holes to avoid tax, but the irs is on their tail, and if they fall short, they are in hot soup

You can't compare God's own country to an accursed country

Nigerian rich man will rather remain in Nigeria because what they do there and get away with, they will be bleeped over in the USA.

The Nigerian rich love to live in a lawless society

Is it not Davido that beat up a taxi driver old enough to father him years ago and seized his keys?

What punishment did he get?

they were even appealing to him to return the key, and he was not locked up for even one day

Can he try that in America without repercussions

Lawless fvcked country

stop writing about what you dont know.... anybody can request for police escort in the US, so long as they have a valid reason. also you can easily hire off duty officers all around the US. but hey, remember that YOU voted the gov in Nigeria, so if you have a problem with it, then next time make your vote count and elect the proper president, duh!

Don't mind that guy

It's harder to spend ill gotten wealth in the US for example, because you have to launder the money, and make the paper trail look normal, and also use a business as a front to prove that this is how the money came about, because the authorities are watching you, but it takes one fvck up to get in big trouble

Do we follow paper/audjt trail in Nigeria?

Why won't the morally bankrupt rich want to stay

Ironically in the types of nations she elevates over Nigeria she would loose her job for such derogatory comments. The fact she would mock and abuse Nigerians in this fashion, without care for the consequences, knowing there would be no consequence, to me is the more telling indictment of Nigeria than her infantile sentiments. Those that support her comment, if they are Nigerians, ought feel shame at the abuse hurled at them or they are not wise enough.

Tell me where in a civilised country do they close roads because a rich man's daughter is having a wedding?
Tell me where in a civilised country do rich civilians and celebrities move around with federal government military men?
A country where tanker and lorries drivers murder people daily, yet the business owners don't get their licence suspended!
