The Most Influential Ethnic Group In Nigeria. by Nobody: 8:09pm On Oct 30, 2012 |
Nigeria have over 250 ethnic groups. But the major groups being the great Igbos, the Hausas and the Yorubas are said to be the most recognised and influential group. On your own, whether sentimentally or realistically which one is the most influential. The one that most influences the politcal, economic, welfare etc nature of the country. As far as I know the economic nature of the country is nothing without the Igbos. What about you and other ethnics. Sentiments are allowed but please no insults and provocative words. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

From an unbiased point-of view - I would say it's between Hausa and Yoruba... Hausa is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria, and Yoruba culture/language is the most widely copied in Nigeria... Almost everyone everyone from Northern Nigeria speaks Hausa - and Yoruba culture/language has influenced the average Nigerian lifestyle, from dressing, to the use of the language in most Nigerian music and their adlibs in the way most Nigerians speak... Yoruba culture/language is "assimilative" - being that it swallows up other African culture/language it comes in contact with... 2 Likes |

From an unbiased point-of view - I would say it's between Hausa and Yoruba... Well you're right in some point except the fact that you say it swallows up other cultures. what we see happening now is dat a new Nigerian culture free of ethnic bias is emerging mostly in the Urban centers of Nigeria and the entire Nigerdelta. every tribe gives it's own quota to this culture but Yoruba seems to be the main donor because of Lagos a predominantly Yoruba city which is now called a no man's land because of the large influx every culture in Nigeria. Making Lagos the the Centre of this new Culture. 1 Like |

demmie1: All this tribal based threads, it obvious most people will give biased answers Anyway to correct, Ibos didn't move to Yoruba land cuz of education n industries. The stupid government policies that made the eastern ports dormant and stole resources from east and south to Lagos is what made Igbos move. Restructure Nigeria and see a massive decline in western activities 3 Likes 1 Share |

Without the Igbos there'll be no economy, there'll be no Nollywood(entertainment), there'll be no fashionistas, there'll be no fair and handsome beauties and men ...there'll be no giant of Africa. 2 Likes 1 Share |

aremuforlife:No my nairalander, you'll be hastily making generalisation when you say all Igbos are making illicit money... It's a known fact in Nigeria that the Igbos are the main pillars of Nigeria economy and commerce, and as for Nollywood in the 1990's when it was being created by the igbo folks, your group of people mocked them, tagging them as "clowns"...then when they had seen most African countries, interested in the English and igbo movies, they rushed to add Yoruba entertainment to the genre of Nollywood(claiming is an avenue to spread Yoruba culture), and for being fashionable, ,even jenifa in jenifas diary do expose it in her movie series, and most Yoruba expository comedic films...you may say is a movie, but check in the streets, roads anywhere, if you see any lady wearing shouting colours of yellow and purple, with rubber slippers to enter shop rite, know she's Yoruba. 3 Likes |
