BiafranDel:For multiplication, this is how u can do it. For example 1.5 X 1.5... What u should do now is assume there is no point and multiply straight, meaning 15 X 15 which is equal to 225. Then u introduce the point back to it. Now look at the numbers u multiplied. 1.5 X 1.5. How many points do we have there??... U can know by counting the numbers that come before the point starting from the back. That is start from the 5. The first 1.5 we have only one digit before the point so u take it 1point. Likewise the other 1.5 we also have one digit before the point so u also take it as 1point. After everything add the points. That is 1point+1point which is equal to 2points. Now bring back the number u multiplied which is 225. Now move the 2points u got starting from behind that is from the 5. U will have 2.25... Which is the answer. NB. If we have something like 3.22 X 1.5. The total points are 3. 2 from the first one(3.22) and 1 from the second one(1.5)...U can then remove the points and multiply and later introduce the points. Hope u grab sha. Pardon me I'm not a good teacher..... Division comes up later cc: Dannyboii1 1 Like |

@ indomixx nice one thanks. Please for the division. Just explain how to divide a small number with a big number easily like 28/84, dividing decimals like 0.002/0.003, 16.09/0.03. Sorry for taking your time bro. |
Re: 2018/2019 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread. by Indomixx: 8:17pm On Jul 05, 2018 |
BiafranDel:For the first one 0.002/0.003... What u have to do is similar with the multiplication method. Now count the number before the points. 0.002. we have 3points. likewise 0.003 we also have 3points. Now the 3points above will cancel the 3points below.... We can now say we have 2/3(since the points have cancelled each other)... I guess it will be easy to divide from here..... Right?? But wait!. What if the points are not equal. For example 0.003/0.02.....Now we have 3points above but just 2points below. Now, the one above has one point more than the one below. we have to cancel points. The one above becomes 0.3 while the one below is 2.(This is because the one on top has 1point more than the one below). So, it becomes 0.3/2. Now we still have to eliminate the point in the one on top. To do that u add a zero to the one below(Note, if had it been the one on top is 2points more, we would have added to zero). So, it becomes 3/20. I guess it becomes a lot easier to divide now??..... If there's any part u don't understand, Pls do well to let me know. Thanks For the other one it becomes 1609/3 1 Like |

in simple trick, to multiply or divided a decimal, put the decimal into a fraction form....divide or multiply as the question requires. like 0.3 x 0.2 0.3 = 3/10 0.2= 2/10 therefore (3/10) x (2/10) = 6/100 =0.06.... For 0.3 ÷ 0.2 0.3= 3/10 0.2= 2/10 therefore, (0.3 ÷ 0.2) = [ (3/10) ÷(2/10) = (3/10) x(10/2) =(3x10)/(10/2) = 30/20 =3/2 = 1.5 1 Like |

in cases of such decimal like in another example 0.00025 ÷ 0.005 put it as 0.00025/0.005 only cancel the zeros after the decimal point it will leave you with 0.025/0.5 or 0.25÷0.5 so 0.025= 25/1000 0.5= 5/10 25/1000 x 10/5 = 250/5000 =25/500 =5/100 =0.05. I hope you guys code the "trick" 1 Like |

@indomixx thanks bro. Knowing all these things will really go a long way in passing the exam. But for the other part, dividing a small number with a big number. Like 3/20. 2/9. Under these condition, i suppose all the answers are to start with 0. being that a smaller number is dividing a bigger one. Throw more light on this please. |
Re: 2018/2019 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread. by Indomixx: 9:34pm On Jul 05, 2018 |
BiafranDel:3/20. It becomes 0. Then add the 0 to the one on top. It becomes 30/20.... From there u can get it easily |

wi5dom:nice one. Thanks bro. What if after dividing, there is a remainder. I mean when they have no common factor. Like 73/450. The answer is 0.16222 to infinity. Any easy way to solve this? |

Please solve 144 base y = 15 base 10, find y? |
Re: 2018/2019 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread. by wi5dom(m): 11:34pm On Jul 05, 2018 |
BiafranDel: I only know of one way "driving" regarding these Since the numerator is value smaller than the denominator. Add zero to the numerator to get the first "0." It will become 730/450= 0.xxxx 450 can only gotten from 730 once.. this gives 0.1 remaining 280. add zero to the 280 to become 2800. 2800/45 gives 6 remaining 9 to give 0.16xx add two zeros to 9 to give 900. so 900/45 give 20! so this gives us 0.1620 using this "time taken" method. |
Re: 2018/2019 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread. by wi5dom(m): 12:11am On Jul 06, 2018 |
fucc12: I think... it is calculated like this and without using a calculator. 144 base y = 15 base 10 (1x y²)+ (4 x y¹) + (4 x y°) = 15 = y² + 4y + 4 = 15 y² + 4y = 15-4 y² + 4y = 11 y² + 4y - 11 = 0 using [-b ± ( √(b² - 4ac)]/ 2a y= -4 ± (√16 - 4(1 x -11) /2 y= -4 ± (√16 + 44 )/ 2 y= ( -4 ± √60)/2 y= (-4 + √60)/ 2 or (-4 - √60)/2. if you have a calculator, you will have y= (-4+ 7.456)/2 or (-4 - 7.456)/2 y= (3.456/2) or. ( -11.456/2) Do away with the negative answer. therefore, y= 1.728. #I hope this calculation is right though. It's been a while solving maths questions. |

A ball of mass 10kg strikes a wall normally with a velocity of 5ms-1 and travels back with the same velocity. Calculate its impulse on the wall. Calculate the velocity of the wave represented by the following wave equation y =20sin(60(pie)x - 0.5(pie)x) , if all the distances are in metres. A stone is projected vertically upwards with a velocity of 20ms. Two seconds later, a second stone is projected similarly with the same velocity. When the two stones meet, the second one is rising at a velocity of 10ms. Calculate (i)the length of time the second stone is in motion before they met. (ii) velocity of the first stone when they met. (g=10ms) PS I NEED WORKINGS. DON'T JUST COME AND DROP ANSWER |
