lionel4power: Then I hope you will agree with me when I say White people and Black people are two parallel lines. In Countries like US, France, Canada, Japan, China etc child birth is about 2 births in 8 women... While in poor Africa child birth is about 8 births per 4 women. In other words, the only thing African countries are contributing to the World is Dick, Pvssy and Sperm! |

abiodunalasa: Nah! Normally I made the point and don't need to do this but again just for you and not those with benign thoughts and making incorrect sentences for narrow agendas like "Nigeria is now the poorest country in the world (actually it is a report from the period of the recession showing the number of the poor in Nigeria went up)", such is how low some will go to appear relevant just like their holding at every straw of visibility however irrelevant and clutching at any insignificant role of the UN in the DRC that the world has moved on from—A thing Nigeria has done and dusted since the 60's and is still doing if it chooses—that is. Nigeria gets the non-permanent UNSC seat whenever it chooses to. It merely allows small countries in West Africa a chance too at the table. You don't need make noise when you are a giant because you are heard when you speak. Nigeria actually sometimes sheiks itself of these responsibilities because when the chips are down it ends up carrying the cross. We saw it in Liberia and Sierra Leone and one reason we refrained from getting bogged down in Somalia and elsewhere. As regards your mention, Nigeria does not go beggar-thy-neighbor for aid. Never has and never will. Source for foreign or local funding for specific development projects: Yes! That depending on the government of the day but Nigeria receives no aid package to support it's budget as it's common with many small countries not only in Africa but around the world. A large population is a kings glory from time immemorial. While that has it's advantages it also has it's disadvantages. The positive is if you have the right leadership to galvanize it into economic prosperity as we see in China today or even the United States after the depression. Nigeria has not yet had that blessing of good leadership to reflect it's true potential albeit it has had the leadership that has managed to keep it's multi-national entities as one country and in that size and natural resources both human and material that comes with it lies it's humongous might compared with contemporary African states. You have to understand the geo-political balance of power in relations between states which is reflected in the level of honor or prestige they accord each other in diplomacy. Your mention would insinuate Nigeria is a declining power but that's not the case, in fact it is the opposite. Despite it's current travails a democratic Nigeria today has more diplomatic, economic and military clout than at any time in it's history save for the first and second republics of Tafawa Belewa and Shehu Shagari. Very few countries have their presidents honored with a reception at the airport by a host head of state. That is an honor reserved for truly big powers like the United States etc. In many cases lower level officials play that protocol depending on bilateral relations. In Africa and elsewhere Nigerian Presidents are accorded that privilege by kings and heads of state in acknowledgement of it's weight as a regional power. That hasn't changed and won't change except Nigeria ceases to exist as one country. This is one indicator that you matter. 2 Likes |

Covert1: nemesis8u: lol, he is misrepresenting the facts (as usual) First, South Africa has sat in that seat in 2007, 2011 and now 2018. Thats three separate terms in a decade. The seat "rotates", because it is non permanent. (But!) Secondly, you have to be voted into the seat. The seat does not "rotate" on a set order, you still need to be able to get votes from other countries to beat off contenders. Third, winning the vote (in the African bloc) is impossible without an AU endorsement - RSA has been endorsed every time and every time it was the only African nation endorsed. These set of facts completely debunks everything Covert1, a.k.a Augustine, has said. As for the general discussion. There is no singular African power, only regional players. RSA and a number of the North African states play a bigger role than most on the global stage but that is because of a myriad of reasons, generally financial and economic. This global prominence, however, does not translate into continental clout. 6 Likes |

patches689:1966 till date South Africa only held that position 3 times and those are the date you quoted. Nigeria on the other hand have held the position 5-6 times. Don't make it look like South Africa is special in that aspect because many African countries have held the position more than South Africa. Nigeria held that seat 2011 and 2015. That's still less than a decade nothing stops Nigeria from holding it again next year. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Covert1: I get your point sir. When it comes to West Africa Nigeria is the king, period. Full stop! No two way about that. We saw Nigerian hegemony in Liberia, Sierra Lone and most recently in Gambia. Like you rightly proffers if we have serious leadership that will harness our full potentials, it is just a matter of time before Nigeria becomes the sole hegemon of Africa. Now pls bro, ignore that guy quoting you whose way of showing SA relevance in Africa is by telling us how SA is clutching tooth and nail to a Seat that Nigeria is freely sharing among its own ECOWAS neighbors... and how Zuma eating pork washed down with Alomo at the International table translates to power. Pls just ignore the dude. I get your points loud and clear. Now onto the next topic. 7 Likes |

First Royal Canadian Air Force Chinook helicopter leaves for Mali The Royal Canadian Air Force is moving forward with its planned deployment of ten helicopters to support the United Nations Air Task Force (ATF) currently deployed in Mali. A pre-deployment team of about 100 personnel in Mali is set to receive three CH-147F Chinook heavy lift transport helicopter from the RCAF 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) and up to seven CH-146 Griffon tactical transport helicopter from the 508 THS which were pledged to the UN mission. Royal Canadian Air Force crews loaded the first of three CH-147F Chinook heavy lift helicopters pledged to the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali. Steve Bigg Photo Owning to the distance involved from Petawawa, Ontario where the helicopters is previously based to west Africa, much planning and coordination took place to successfully complete the task. At first, the helicopters flew to 8th Wing in Trenton, Ontario under their own power, then the helicopters were loaded onto a CC-177 Globemaster III heavy transport aircraft belonging to the 429 Transport Squadron. With a 60-foot rotor diameter and a height of 18 feet, the Chinook required a partial disassembly which was executed by technicians and support personnel from 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS). The rotor blades, the front and rear rotor mast was removed so the Chinook could fit into the Globemaster III. And then when you make a valid point based on sound engineering practices, you get ridiculed. People saying nonsense that you're just jealous of Nigeria. I invite the original poster (he knows who he is)....does he still believe that the Nigeria Air Force can develop a Light Utility Helicopter "soon"? If this is what they presented, does he still stand behind his comments? Taking into consideration the time & effort of other LUH programs. 3 Likes
